Wow Greg, I hadn't realized how far you were in denial! As a Brit, I am not sure whether we were more or less prepared. We know that Doctors change and companions change, but not necessarily when. I can't remember whether we knew that this was Rose's last episode as companion, but I think we did. The only question was how and why. We definitely did not know whether she was going to die. (IRL I think she just wanted to move on and do other things - she was very young and had other projects she wanted to do). I was so relieved she did not in fact die, even though she is lost to the Doctor. But still - 15 or so years later - I am incapable of watching that final scene without ugly crying. Xmas episodes are always odd ones. They are usually stand alone, but there can be a one-off companion, or the first episode of a new companion, or simply same companion. So the fact that someone is in the Xmas episode is not going to tell you anything about future cast. And yes, of course that Cyberman/Dalek confrontation was supposed to be funny. The Doctor Who team are as self aware as the next people (well, normally).

Love how I expected Greg to be an emotional wreck at this episode and ended up with sadness and denial, ain’t complaining though 👌 With regards to the companion fact, me and a few others debated on whether to include that fact or to leave it out and ultimately we decided to leave it in, but going forward I’ll refrain from facts like that as it is bordering close on spoiler territory. As Toad said the way you’ve got to think about it is that a companion is not necessarily someone who is in a full season it could just mean for one episode whether that be a Christmas episode or a random episode in the middle of the season so don’t think on it too much, they won’t neccesarily be a part of a season regular cast. Also to clear up Torchwood is set on Our Earth (the one with Jack and the Doctor and our version of Torchwood) not Roses Torchwood on Pete’s World. And yeah sorry guys this is the last of Rose so it’s definitely a Ned Stark situation 👍

Rose is an absolute legend!!

greg being upset "he didnt even get to say i love you??? hurry up!!!" exactly lol, now u know what the fandom has been dealing w for the past 15 years haha

Honestly with the fair few fakeouts they've had with her I don't blame you for being in denial - usually you can tell if a departure is real if you notice a lot of emotional weight behind a goodbye.

Have they had fakeouts? I don’t remember them having one. She’s been in danger, but we’ve never been given any particular reason to think she wasn’t coming back before now.

Gibbzee

Well off the top of my head we had her not making it through the door in time in Dalek, then we had her getting disintegrated by the Anne-droid in Bad Wolf.

Another great reaction guys. Glad to see you both are still enjoying it. Been a while since I last seen these episodes so it's been a lot of fun revisiting them alongside your first time watches. It's one of my favourite TV shows ever and the scale only gets bigger as it goes along.
