Violet Evergarden 1x4 WATCH ALONG

hahaha . I love your gradual realization that you liked this episode . It was pretty fascinating to watch Greg. While I did not like it as much as you, since I thought they kinda retread same themes as in previous eps, It is still a solid episode, the whole thing revolving about communication or lack of it and the problems it can cause . And the whole puddle thing was really neat touch from visual storytelling . I also was not biggest fan of Iris personality, she seemed a bit much haha . The visuals and the score and the direction is on point like always . I am glad youre legit enjoying this show and that theres enough in these episodes to talk about . I also noticed you get very attached to main characters in anime and its harder for you to enjoy when they show other perspectives i feel. Anime does that a lot, pulling away from MC and showing life of other characters . When i think about it, its not that common in western shows , is it ?

I caught up on this series over the weekend so I can join in on these reactions! I kinda felt the same way you did until closer to the end of the episode. Bringing back the puddle was so subtle and effective! Fun fact: the japanese word for the violet flower is “sumire”, which as a name means “bright, lovely” and I’m not sure if this particular meaning was what the creators were thinking of in that scene or if Gilbert just thought the violets were pretty, but him saying “I have a feeling you’ll grow into the name when you’re older” is so sweet to me. 😭

That's interesting i've seen characters in other series named Sumire but never realized it means violet.

2021-07-15 04:40:39 Hahaha I guess its like my own little enjoyment character arc. Glad you enjoyed it too lol. I think especially with the show's tone, it can sometimes set you up for a way-homer kind of absorption process. Sorry you weren't as big of a fan of this episode, but I admire your ability to be objective haha. Maybe I'll invest more in Iris in future episodes, but I guess that's a fair point haha. I get the point, but I guess sometimes it feels like a diversion rather than a natural expansion? Not quite as common in American stuff, but it still happens haha. I'd be curious to know how these are written by comparison to Western stuff, because it feels like we go for more of the direct ensemble vibe if we're gonna jump around perspectives. Maybe I've been conditioned by this haha. Either way glad you're still enjoying watchin with me, amigo! Very surprised by how much I've enjoyed this so far and how much it's given us to talk about lol. It's cool to get a show like this with a real emphasis on that body language & visual storytelling. The puddle's a great example of that. Catch ya on the next one bud!!!!
