What a Minute Supernatural on a Thursday? Oh my God I slept through Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning. I have officially lost all perception of time. It is the only reasonable assumption left. Today is Saturday.

Did you miss the reaction from last Thursday?

I honestly like Adam a lot. His attitude to Sam and Dean makes total sense - I especially enjoy his "you can fuck right off" reaction to Sam trying to convince him that he should trust them because they're technically family. LITERALLY the same reason he and his mother were brutally murdered in the first place, what a very convincing argument, Sam 😂 Absolutely love angry badass Cas in this one. I'd agree with John that him beating the crap out of Dean felt quite cathartic. Cas gave up everything he knew for Dean, and not only have they been failing in their mission, but now Dean was essentially betraying them. For all intents and purposes, Dean's the reason for all Castiel's woes right now, and he's turning his back on them and their fight. As unsettling as I think it is to see Cas being so violent with him, it also feels very satisfying to see him able to unleash some of that bottled up anger. I'm very curious to know why you thought it might be Chuck that was crawling his way out of a magic grave at the start??

The first time I saw this episode, it was easy for me to get caught in the minutia of who is right and wrong and the motivations that the characters all had for their actions. However, after seeing it many times - I'm much more drawn to what the episode was trying to show and tell us. And now it's simple, yet wrapped deliciously in some finely crafted storytelling. The one character...the ONLY character that needs redemption in order to move forward is Sam. Dean is all of us, not having that faith. Each of the other characters played older versions of Sam we have seen throughout the seasons. The petulant little brother, angry at his dad and the world in Adam. Then we have defiant, self righteous Cass lashing out at Dean violently just like Sam has in season's past over his lack of faith. Even Bobby's admission/guilt trip can be linked to Sam's feeling of hopelessness and missing half of himself when Dean was in hell, practically begging demons for his life to end. Except this time...? Sam was none of these things. Dean (we) needed to see his evolution in order to regain the faith in their relationship and the mission. What I find even more interesting is how Sam was calm, patient, measured, empathetic and strong in his conviction of faith. But it's played so subtly against the backdrop of the whirlwind going on you almost miss it. I love it!

Sure someone has said this already but it mirrors the Greek myth of Persephone, who was taken to the Underworld. Dean didn't eat anything in the Green room so he could escape but Adam ate something so he had to stay

I know that this is ancient history but I agree with John on the catharsis. Characters sharing uncomfortable, inconvenient truths is an important development for their relationships. Frankly, Dean constantly talks trash and dishes out his feelings. He needs to take it, as well. Even if it's heartbreaking.
