Well, I am extremely late with this comment and not even sure how much of this episode you remember since it's been a few years, but you guys were discussing the mental illness jokes while Sam and Dean where in the psychiatric hospital to hunt a monster. I wasn't sure if you knew that Jared opened up publicly about his own mental illness and struggle with depression. He started a campaign called Always Keep Fighting to raise money for different mental health foundations and to help fight the stigma associated with it. He started by selling an "Always Keep Fighting" T-shirt thinking that he might sell a couple hundred, but ended up selling like 30,000 in a couple days, if I remember correctly. He has done several designs over the years and added beanies, totes etc. They wear the shirts at the conventions. I have a few designs of the shirts and a SPN phone case. There have been many times at their conventions where people have thanked him during their Q/A for talking about it because it made a difference in their lives Keep up the great reactions!

u guys holding urselves back from being #woke during the ep is understandable but! also funny lol. yeah, mental hospitals being ""spooky"" is a little... eh.. and using mental illness as jokes... yeah it's a little antiquated. also u guys are really big jensen fanboys w dean being your fave every ep huh?? lol anyway hope u guys are staying safe!

I’m glad you enjoyed this episode. The side characters were all so good in this one. Laughed out loud when you knew “Martin” was also in “ Real Genius “. That is one of those films, if I come across, I have to watch to the end. I also agree that the bone thing coming out of her wrist was so gross. I thought it was a nice touch when she tasted Sam’s forehead, and licked her finger. Creepy.

For me the scariest part of this episode is the fact that the monster turns up the crazy that's already there. It's not something foreign that is affecting you, it's the worst insecurities and darkest aspects of yourself coming to the forefront, and you find yourself drowning in them. I loved the character analysis this gave of the boys. Sam's anger issues (that have always been there) and him being called out on it by someone who wasn't Dean and him fully acknowledging it and wanting to change and do better. Dean's constant inner self-doubt increasing to the point where he can't trust his own eyes; the shrink he was hallucinating tearing down his self worth by basically saying his best will not be good enough. Also, yes it was immature and not PC, but I can't have pudding to this day and not think of Dean.

Looking forward to watching this one with you. I just had a quick look at your comments and I'm really glad you like this one, because not everybody does, and I think it's a bit underrated (possibly because it comes after the brilliant 5x10 yet is a standalone). The "pudding" line is very popular in the fandom, but I've never liked it. Before worrying about the insensitive attitude of the show to mental health in this episode, you might notice that every non-pc/ignorant comment actually comes out of Dean's mouth, not Sam's. It's true to character - Dean is ill-informed. Can you imagine his father taking any time to consider any of this with him? As he says at the end, his idea of a healthy attitude is to repress and just get on with things (which is why Dean tends to be on the edge of explosion half the time!). IRL it’s a very important issue to all of them, especially stemming from Jared’s own mental health problems (which he is very open about) I think this is the only time in the whole of SPN that one of the brothers says "I love you" to the other, and it's only because Sam is totally high. p.s. you can relax on the recaps now! Just I recommend trying to avoid reading guest star names.

Wow, ONE recap warning and y’all are dramatic about it forever??? Lol Yeah I gotta say, the weird brain sucking wrist bone is probably one of my fave gross things in the show. And the way it just gushes blood when Dean breaks it off?🤢🤢 LOVE THAT, such a cool effect. There’s a handful of episodes that maybe haven’t aged QUITE so well that I forget about until I’m re watching them. It’s so interesting to me how jarring it is sometimes like, wow, we’ve def come a long way from this lol

Honestly, I really, really wanted to see the pudding. What’s wrong with pudding John?

The actress who played the Wraith, Lara Gilchrist, actually already had appeared in this show in the Scarecrow episode in season 1. She died in the very beginning of that episode. They use the same actors like that relatively often in this show, which i find really cool.

Yeah.... not my favorite episode, but I really did love the reveal of Dean's therapist. I was a little disappointed that it was so focused on Sam. They did that brief mention of how Dean hasn't been okay since maybe even when he came back from hell, but we didn't delve into that at all. I feel like Dean's having such a hard time, and for reaaaallllly good reasons, that it just made me have a little less sympathy for Sam's issues. Like 40 years in hell and the only person he has in the world completely turning on him vs. Grr I'm mad. I don't know, sorry for the weird ramble XD I'm a little sleep deprived, and even when I'm not I still think everything should be centered on Dean always and forever, so I'm a little biased. Regardless, loved your guys reaction. We're about to start getting into the meat of the season, and I can't wait for you guys to dive in :)
