those small micro expressions they gave mom were great.

Anime does that a lot. Dedicating whole episode for a character whos about to die and accepted death. Its pretty cliche but it works for me more often than not. Just seeing Normans face and how he interacts with Ray and Emma and how those two struggling is really great . The flashback also was good addition to show that norman is still just a kid and he gets flustered and all that , its just he tries to have facade because of other 2. Also the whole line of ray being tired of all of it, while it was to have the reveal later. I honestly think he was actually saying the truth, hes just tired seeing of kids and friends losing since he knew from the very start. hes just tired of having all his plans and schemes be fruitless. At least thats what i got . And the whole conflict when emma tried to tackle norman and normal nearly lost his composure was really good too, both of em are desperate and know its really hopeless, but Emma being Emma she still tried to do something . And I liked how Norman got angry at her. And the last show of Emma, i think thats just me but I felt her face kinda symbolized the character/narrative tool which is loss of innocence . It fits with whole Emmas character, since shes the most optimistic and the most pure in the show , but also on a larger scale it has to happen to move plot and characters forward by any means necessary .
