i will say my one legit gripe i had with this ep... sam said if they told the kid the truth, laid out all what was happening and gave him a choice, that he might not turn evil. and then castiel said "you didnt.".... ok except that's not true? sam NEVER had the whole truth. he was being manipulated ten ways from sunday. there's no way sam would've still tried to kill lilith if he knew she was the last seal. so i really don't get what cas's problem here is lol. anyway, i do really like the way this episode goes from silly one-off to one with huge implications. and i thought the kid playing jesse did a really good job too!

Toasted Toad

Agree with you guys about the actress - I see her in lots of stuff, and I think she always turns in an excellent performance. I really liked the Sam/Cas dynamic here too. When you look back on it, Cas rarely addresses Sam directly. And here you see he has not forgiven him at all for his actions in Season 4. He still does not think a lot of Sam. I think you raised points and criques that have been raised by others. The episode perhaps doesn't really hang together very well, and peters off a bit. I've seen a lot of different opinions about this one - some like it, some don't, but I think generally speaking it doesn't raise very strong feelings.

Janet Shearer

Greg , think you were thinking of Jesse’s Girl ?

Eric Horstman

Fun fact: Ever Carradine, who played the mom, is the daughter of Robert Carradine. If you don’t know who he is fuck you and check out Revenge of the Nerds lol (I’m so fucking old!)

sarahzentexas

I was gonna say! Acting royalty, the Carradines! She and the kid were both excellent. Elevated the material.

sarahzentexas

Thanks, John, for your killer The Killers improv. 🤩 All These Things That I’ve Done

sarahzentexas

Lol, I thought, “How DARE he not remember?,” but now that you mention it, Lol at the thought of Jesse’s Girl. Not mom. 😂

Jennifer Lundstrom

Another episode where you think its going to be more of a comedy and then seamlessly goes dark/serious. SPN writers do that very well and I love it. I hadn't seen this episode in a while, enjoyed re-watching with you again!

Kristin Dorner

As much as I love Cas (he is literally my favorite character), he is just plain wrong to treat Sam the way he does. Like dude, YOU FREAKING KNEW that Lilith was the final seal, that Sam was determined to kill her. So don’t treat him like he’s the only one who f*cked up here.

Kayla Waters

Not one of my favorite episodes, (mostly because I'm comparing it to others), but on it's own I think this is a decent episode. I always feel sooooooo sad for that poor old man who accidentally electrocuted a guy :( I don't know, I don't hate it, don't love it, but did love your guys reaction, as always <3

This is an episode that I really liked when it first aired, but over time it's lost some value with me. It's still worth the watch, but far from a favorite.

Toasted Toad

What is it with these Sam apologists? Sam was given multiple warnings to stop. By Cas and the angels (twice) near the beginning of the season, by Dean (who he just completely ignores), by Chuck, by Bobby. Just how many warnings is he supposed to have? Had he listened to any of them, killing Lilith would not even have been possible

Jonathan Cassell

I like this episode but it's the next one that's a fav of mine looking forward to nxt Sat I also feel bad for the old guy in this episode😢

Steve Rivera

I think this is a very good episode. Some people don't like it as much but I don't think anybody thinks it's a bad one. I love that it starts out as a monster of the week, but then ties into the overarching story. And like Greg, I don't like fart gags. I think they're overused. But I did like this one. Mostly because the joke isn't the fart noise, it's the body language all three actors use to make the but funny. Castiel's confusion is just perfect 😆😆

thereelrejects

Aw, likewise re: the structure. Seemed like a slightly more qualitative way of getting to have your cake & eat it too, MotW-wise. As for Cas, though, that's actually a really good point haha, I hadn't thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right. I wonder if maybe he wasn't privy to all the info Zach & co. were? Either that or he was just bound by his angelic oath at the time, but I suppose you could go one further n say that Cas didn't exactly help Sam with that choice when he maybe could have? Either way, though, really enjoyed Sam's conclusion that they need to fill Jesse in & let him decide. Felt like a direct moment of growth away from what happened with that kid a season or 2 ago when Sam decided to straight up lie to the other kid about the reaper...

thereelrejects

That's fair, I suppose. Thinking back, this almost feels like a more-substantial take on the episode where they find out about their half-brother... And yeah haha, whenever Cas addresses Sam directly, it's aaaalways pointed. ESPECIALLY here. I am torn, though, re: the Sam Apologies going around - mainly because, to the exact point they're talking about, I do get the argument that Sam didn't have the whole truth to go off (a truth it seems like Cas might've been able to illuminate some, had he not been under his strict angel orders at the time). That said, however, there's been a looooooot of other stuff feeding into Sam as well, soooo I also see your point haha. Either way, though, excited to see the Sam/Cas dynamic expand over time 😅 And YES! I'm gonna have to learn that actress's name, I feel like I've seen her before in some other things, but I can't quite place them. TERRIFIC performance from her on both counts here, though.

thereelrejects

Oh snap haha, I had no idea!! DEFINITELY remember Robert Carradine from Revenge of the Nerds (...at least I, John do.. lol - I think we may have recently established Greg hasn't seen it 😅). Pretty cool connection, though! She clearly got the family chops!

thereelrejects

Aw, I'm so glad to hear that!! I think we both got a good amount out of this one. I always appreciate an ep. that starts out feeling like another MotW and then transitions into something way heavier. May not be a fan fave, but I thought this was pretty nifty. Glad you enjoyed the revisit! :)

thereelrejects

Aw, well thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the reaction at the very least 😊 I feel ya on the electrocution guy - legit felt sad for him, how was he to know?!? But yeah, I'd say that's about fair - a decent enough ep. on its own :)

thereelrejects

Interesting! Granted, from here I don't know if/when any of this episode will figure back in, but I can sorta see that. This almost reminded me of a more-substantial version of the ep. where they learn about their half-brother...

thereelrejects

I knooow, poor guy!! Stuff like that always gets to me a little haha 😅😢 Excited to check out the next one - hopefully we dig it as much as you do!!!

thereelrejects

That seems about fair! I get the sense this is one of the "fair-fine" ones by a lot of fans' metrics, which is cool. ESPECIALLY appreciated the way it slipped from MotW into the main story, though. I love when episodes do that, especially on this show. Kinda takes me back, for a moment, to the lighter days at the top before all the heavy, juicy stuff set in. And god lol that fart gag. I did get a pretty good kick out of it too - it's the context in that one haha, not the sound/sensation itself. And god, right after watching this we went onto a convention video that included some insane behind-the-scenes fart stories from J2M, so I suppose it was meant-to-be 😂

Steve Rivera

Yeah I'm a big fan of these as well! And yeah I saw that 😂😂 haven't seen a lot of those convention stories so I was also hearing it for the first time along with you guys hahaha

Toasted Toad

Misha was not keen at all on the fart gag and tried to persuade them to take it out. As you can see - without success! I agree with him on this one - I didn't find it funny.

Shona

Just a wee FYI the boy that plays Jesse is in The Boys as Soldier Boys sidekick in season 3 ( the younger version).
