I've seen this one get a varried reaction. Some really don't like it at all. Some are confused and put off by the tone and toilet humour. Some have really loved it and rate it among the best. I always feel l have to apologise for this one as a fan lol. Although I do love some parts of this episode. But what's particularly fun is seeing how the next reactor is going to take to this oddball two parter.

Building the universe is exactly right. From the companion, the wonky Tardis behavior, really weird and unique “aliens”, and now the doctor’s familiarity with the British military it’s all classic Dr Who. I Am surprised you haven’t mention the tool he often uses. These are all things from the early doctors. The nice lady wondering the govt offices was also in Downton Abby.

I confess I don’t think much of this two parter. Maybe because the farting humour makes it seem more overtly aimed at young kids. And the wonky fx don’t bother me as much as the fact that while these aliens sloooooowly get out of their skins, the humans just stand there and watch each time! 😂 But it was really fun to watch you enjoying it. I always prefer it when you like one I don’t to the other way around. Just BTW because you mentioned it, although it is not in the episode, it is definitely not okay to use the ‘f’ word here. Not the first example, but this episode does include one of my favourite Doctor Who tropes - running slowly down corridors to the camera. Budget means they never have a lot of space, so run out of room quite quickly! Oh, and the Doctor is 900 years old according to his own internal body clock. Doesn’t matter where you are in time, your body will age. The Doctor’s own personal timeline is linear. It’s why he hasn’t seen everything in the universe yet. He experiences one thing after another, not all at the same time. He has only had time for 900 years’ worth of experiences thus far.

I'm glad you guys liked it...I always feel embarrassed for this episode for some reason but it was nice to see someone say something good about it. There will be some intelligent aliens that play mind games in future episodes :)

The 3rd Doctor played by Jon Pertwee (Sean Pertwee from Gotham's Father) was stranded on Earth by the Time Lords for his constant meddling in other Planets affairs. So he was brought in by a Government agency called UNIT to help with Extraterrestrial Threats. This is why they have a record of him. Also the Time War hasn't been going on for the Doctors full 900 years, only around the time between the Doctors 8th and 9th Regeneration, or basically when the show was cancelled and when this series was brought back.

I believe that haha. Especially with the wacky toilet humor. But don't worry, no need to apologize to us, we had pretty much fun 😊Even if the aliens, themselves, are a bit wacky, I thought this ep. had a bunch of great details, and the more subtle humor I thought was on-point. Curious to see if the good will lasts through the second half or not, but I hope we were able to give ya a fun reaction to this first part!

And what fun universe building it's been so far! Come to think of it... I'm also surprised the Sonic Screwdriver hasn't figured much into our chats yet. Then again, its use has been reasonably low-key up until this point. I do find that pretty wonderful, though, that the Doctor seems to have this living history - picking up accoutrements and things over regenerations n all that. Has she been on Downton Abbey as well?? I admit I've yet to see an episode 😫but if I start, I'll keep my eye out for her! Penelope Wilton.. gonna try n remember that haha.

Don't worry, from what I gather you're far from alone on this topic 😅but I'm really glad you enjoyed watching!! I think that's the way I'd prefer it too - rather like something unpopular than meh something everybody else digs. I can certainly see where you're coming from with the juvenile quality all the farting adds... aaaand while I hadn't thought so much about it in the moment, that's a great point about the aliens slooooooowly getting out of their skin-suits while people just watch in horror. They seem pretty strong, but... yeah, seems like there'd be time to swing something heavy at them or something. Agreed re: the 'f' word. Was pretty surprised she called him gay that way to begin with. Haven't heard that use in a while. Hadn't considered the running as a trope, but thinking back now, I can certainly conjure pictures of the doctor running (er.. jogging?) down hallways towards camera haha. Gonna have to pay closer attention the next time one of those crops up. And thanks for the clarifier re: the Doctor's age/experience. Reminds me of the conversation he and Rose had toward the end of the last one about her being able to die in Cardiff despite not technically having been born yet in that time. This makes sense. Just because the next step isn't linear to the timeline, necessarily, it's still linear in the life/experience of the person doing the traveling. So the Doc's not omniscient, he's just seen a whoooooole lot in 900 years. Got it!

Aw haha yay! My guess would be all the fart gags? From what I gather this is not among the most popular episodes 😅but we certainly had fun & I'm glad you were able to enjoy as well. Can't have smart aliens without a few.. less-than-smart aliens.. excited to meet whoever's next once this 2-parter wraps.

Ahh, good to know!! Appreciate the info, mate! I've often heard Greg praise Sean Pertwee's work on Gotham, I had no idea about the Doctor Who connection! It's cool they've allowed the canon to build so much over time and still call back to & make use of details established in the earlier series. One day we'll have to take a look at a classic ep. or two. Appreciate the clarifier re: the Time Wars as well. Gotta imagine 8 must've had a pretty crazy sendoff, given that! This makes a lot of sense, actually. Like that they were able to use the cancellation time for added context.

Toasted Toad

The 3rd Doctor was stranded on earth because they had no budget for 'off world' effects! 😂😂😂

Toasted Toad

re the slow running, you only have to look back as far as episode 1, where the Doctor and Rose are 'running' to camera in front of the mannequins!

Ok, commenting a little late, so let’s see if i have anything interesting to say about this episode that hasn’t already been said lol 1. These aliens, while farty, have a very cool design. I especially love the way the eyes sorta blink sideways? A super small detail but it’s so cool haha. 2. Love the moments of horror in this episode, the weird pig creature was so creepy and the tension i thought was well done! 3. The way the bad guys were doing their Evil Laugh, i just thought of the muppets “maniacal laugh” joke lol https://youtu.be/R6MlHxAzLXA Anyway, looking forward to what you guys think of part 2! And kudos for not watching the preview haha

thereelrejects

No worries!! Haha glad you caught the vid either way :) 1. I think I can get on board there. When the big practical one's out and holding the one guy up against the curtains, it felt pretty menacing. Dig the whole secondary/vertical eyelids thing as well! 2. I agree! I thought the pig bit was a cool mislead & still found it pretty affecting when The Doctor reprimands that soldier saying the pig was scared. Like that character beat a lot. 3. That is a GREAT call lol 😂 just pulled up the clip and flashed right back to the conference room haha. I can see why this is a divisive episode for sure, but I think we still had a lot of fun - and YES haha, doing our best to catch the previews ASAP to keep things fresh. Looking forward to seeing how these farty aliens pan out 😝
