What a journey this was! Really enjoyed the reactions and the show (again). Going to miss headbanging to the op 😂 This episode is slightly different from the manga towards the end where Light ran away from the warehouse. If I remember correctly, Ryuk killed Light straightaway after he got shot and he died in front of everyone. Not really a big difference, but I think Mad House did a very good job making the ending a bit more visually interesting, with some more symbolism added. I agree that the reveal about real/fake notebook was pretty much skimmed over. I would've loved to see the series extending to around 50 episodes considering the point where L dies (Ep. 25) is literally the half way point in the manga. But I guess in general people just don't enjoy the second half as much so dragging the anime to fit the source material may be worse for the series as a whole. Anyways, looking forward to seeing your reactions to a new series. Hope it will be The Promised Neverland 😉

Can’t believe it’s already over! I’ve loved watching along with this one! This finale episode is pretty satisfying to me. Especially since Light gets what he deserves finally. And Light’s voice actor WHEW! He definitely needed a cough drop after this. Lol Matsuda stepping up and just taking him out is maybe my favorite moment. So much intensity and emotion. I’ve enjoyed listening to your insights and thoughts too! Can’t wait to see what new show you add!

Honeslty i watned Light to die in a more pathetic way , to squirm like a worm. I dont think he deserved that pseudo dignified last breath on the stairs , lol, But thats just me . And his breakdown in front of everyone , while it was nice to see completely losing his shit and being desperate as fuck and it was fitting how the his arc was written. But im not as satisfied , since it went the usual anime bad guy route , all crazy dramatic and monologuing and not composed at all. I think i just seen that sorta thing too many times , especially in anime . Tho the voice acting was fantastic , especially for LIght , god dang . Also its funny , out of all 37 eps, this is the ep where i liked Matsuda and appreciated him shooting light hahah. He actually felt like a character thats not sole purpose is comedic relief. I kinda wish Misa did not commit suicide , even tho i disliked her and how she was written, its kinda awful she died for Light . I dont think that fucker deserves anything . As far as first half with second half , i said this before . But i just think first half was a lot more restrained and put more focus in the small details and it felt a lot more clever about the set pieces and cat and mouse play. Course L was big contributor to this and that more even feel of the show . Second half was more chaotic , had more shit going on, but i felt a lot of times it was too bombastic or just usual anime crazy stuff without the clever writing to back it up. And Mello was just a wasted character imo. At the end of the day im not dissatisfied with how the show ended, I know executing the ending of any story is fucking hard thing to do and im really picky when it comes to pleasing me as far as endings go lol. I am glad you enjoyed it , and it has beern such a long time since you started , lol.

I know Greg was watching death note on his own but it would be great to hear a review/discussion on death note.

Seriously!! Really appreciate you coming along (again) with me! I’m legitimately going to miss that OP lol. You have no idea 😂 Interesting! I’ve been wondering how different the manga & anime are, how similar, etc. I’d have been curious to see it play that way. Seems like it’d be a lot colder, more stark in some ways, but... I don’t mind that for Light lol. That said, though, I thought the ending montage was really nicely hewn. Stirring in a slightly different way (at least from what I’m imagining re: the manga). I’ve been curious about the show’s second half, because it seemed like L’s death would’ve been the mid-way point. I liked the fake notebook reveal better than Near figuring Mikami out. With the notebook I could at least see where the pieces were. Dunno exactly when I’ll get to read it, but I’m very curious about how the second half plays. I can definitely see how/why people wouldn’t like it as much.. L is such a grounding force and while, dramatically, I think the theory of his death makes sense & I appreciate the point of Mello & Near... he just seems to anchor the whole thing in so many ways that.. yeah, losing his presence seems like it’d take some of the soul with it. Thanks so much again for joining me on these! It’s been such a fun ride & I really LOVED this show overall. Was cool to finally get to see it & to be able to share it with you guys this way. Excited for what’s next! ....whatever that may be 👻

I knoooow 😫😭😫 this one definitely lived up to all the vibes I’d gotten over the years. I’ve been spoiled so far with these anime haha. Was VERY satisfying to see Light come apart backed into that corner. Gahh! And then to have Matsuda, arguably the most innocent, moved to such cold & effective action. Definitely a standout moment for me as well. And god the followup moment, “he has to diiiieee!!” and the hole in the ground. Really stepped up as a character before the very end haha. Props to all the VA’s across the board but they better have given him a LIFETIME supply of cough drops after this one 😅 part way thru I was wondering to myself how many takes these require and how many days you might have to try to nail a scene like this without shredding your voice. Major props haha. Seriously tho, thanks so much again for watching along with me! This one’s been really fun to watch n talk about, so I really appreciate it. Always a lil nerve racking picking the next series haha, but excited for... whatever we come up with! (Hopefully somethin’ you’ll dig haha)

I enjoyed the journey with you- thanks! 😊

Haha I suppose I can't argue there. I liked the visual and tonal aspects when he's fleeing the scene, but... I can also see it being that much more cathartic to have him go out terribly. Yeah man, I can't imagine what the recording process must've been like for his VA. That's gotta raw up your throat something fierce, I'd imagine 😅but I get your gripe here. Didn't bug me as much, but I can see how it'd be a more interesting choice to have him retain at least some of his composure. But we do agree that, in the writing, it does all match Light for the most part. To me, him losing his shit partly was the squirm-like-a-worm moment. Perhaps I'll become more frustrated the more anime I watch, though 😅 Hahaha right? One of a few times Matsuda felt like a fully-integrated character. This was DEFINITELY his shining moment. That whole scene right up to him nearly blowing Light's head off.. guhh!! As for Misa, I thought that was pretty tragic. Like... it does make sense in various ways, but.. yeah, he's just so terrible to her from day 1, I really wish she could've at least just.. gotten out, gone on living. Then again, the way her character is written... With the halves of the show, I can see the disproportion. A lot changes with L's death and while I don't begrudge them a more chaotic second-half (seems reasonable to assume chaos would be a little more prevalent with L's steady energy & formidable leadership gone), there are aspects of the second half here that do feel choppy, less thought-out, organized, etc.. Again, seemed like L had to die at some point, but yeah, this could've benefitted from more careful attention to Near's deductive abilities as well as a stronger sense for Mello's involvement before the reveal comes. I liked having him & his crew surveilling things in the background, but.. yeah, when his death comes up it feels like a waste of his presence. I'd be curious to read that part of the manga as I've heard it's at least more proportionate. All in all, though, the experienced lived up to the hype for me. There's so much quality stuff in there. Aspects could be improved upon, but sitting here a week later, I still feel pretty satisfied. Even with a few gripes, it's still pretty impressive. And I always appreciate your feedback as it's helping me refine my palate for these things. Thanks for following along with me for almost 40 weeks haha. Been quite a journey!

I would LOVE to talk some Death Note with Greg! No idea when he'll have the show finished haha, but when such a time rolls around, I'd be down for a lil redux discussion if we can fit it into the schedule.

thereelrejects

Aw, thank you!! So glad you enjoyed it as well. 😊 Definitely not a show I'll soon forget!

I just hope you look at my comments with a grain of salt, lol. There's lots of shows, especially anime where I don't think much of it, despite understanding that these are well made shows. But if it doesn't push my specific buttons, be it character writing and avoiding usual anime tropes, then I can be unfairly critical. Haha
