wow you guys were SO swept away by the "next time" haha. gosh, this brings me back to when i first started this show when i was like 13. im definitely not going to say anything about what will happen, but seeing this episode again for the first time in forever, it reminds me just how many awesome episodes and great moments you have ahead of you. im excited that you guys are excited! see you next week! ✌❤

Toasted Toad

Great reaction, guys! I loved seeing you have such a blast. Fun seeing someone who has no idea that the Doctor is an alien, has no idea that the TARDIS is bigger on the inside etc. You're a rare unicorn, Greg! You'll learn more about the Doctor and the TARDIS as time goes on. You're not the only one keen on Ecclestone, John. I love him (that's part of why I wanted you to start at the beginning of the reboot!) I don't really have anything to add - your discussion pretty much covered it. The only thing I would say is that I'd advise you not to watch the "next episode" bits. There's never anything to be gained from them except spoilers. Stop when you've finished the episode.

Toasted Toad

Just seen that it's a particularly appropriate time for this reaction now, because Doctor Who is trending on Twitter right now in the UK - apparently we've just had the latest season finale (I've stopped watching because I just can't deal with the latest incarnation of the Doctor)

Rosie Batey(DarthYoda066)

Fun fact, the pilot episode of Doctor Who “An Unearthly Child” aired on the same day as the assassination of President Kennedy, 23rd November 1963, 56 years ago and because of that the episode had to re air the following Saturday as not many people had tuned in the previous week for obvious reasons. So the nod to the Doctor being there is a little Easter egg/reference to that. Also don’t know how you are going to timetable the reactions to this but the way Blindwave did it was great. There are some mini episodes that are worth a reaction but they are only like 5-10 minutes long so don’t know what you could do for that. And if you want a bonus you could watch the spin off called Torchwood (don’t necessarily need to react) it follows a certain character (I’ll not spoil) and ties in to the 3 episode finale of season 3 (you don’t need to have seen it to understand those episodes but as I say it’s just a bit of a bonus) And agreed with others, don’t watch the next episode bits especially at the first episodes of seasons as you usually get a teaser for the season and particularly for season ten a major reveal is spoiled. And pay attention to things in the background in the first four seasons as it builds your curiosity before getting answers in the season finales.

Rosie Batey(DarthYoda066)

In reference to what I’m saying about torchwood, what I mean is the end of its first season the last two minutes effectively start right before going into those 3 episodes.

I am a long time YouTube subscriber! First time commenting. I decided to join your patreon when I heard you were reviewing Doctor Who! It is so fun to rewatch that episode with you guys. Greg I get excited over how excited you are! So great to see this. Cant wait for more. I am already thinking of future episodes that I cant wait for you to see! Great reaction guys!

Rosie Batey(DarthYoda066)

Minisodes would be; Time Crash (in between last episode of season 3 and the Christmas special) about 10 minutes Pond Life omnibus (before s7 ep1) about 6 minutes Ps (after the season 7 episode “the angels take Manhattan”) about 5 minutes Night of the Doctor (before the 50th anniversary special) 7 minutes (but it’s a great 7 minutes) The Last day (also before the 50th Anniversary special) about 3 minutes Other Possible suggestions; The Unearthly Child (original pilot episode- you get to see where it all started) The 5 doctors (I believe this is an anniversary episode and you get all the first five doctors in an episode together) also worth watching before you watch season 3 The Doctor Who movie (the Paul McGann one - it’s entertaining and also worth watching as you’ll understand the Night of the Doctor more and you’ll also be able to see how the Americans tried to tackle Dr who as this was made after the show went off air and before the 2005 reboot series) An Adventure in Space and Time - a movie about the creation of Doctor who that was made for the 50th anniversary and is really emotional and full of throwbacks and surprises. You would have to watch it around the same time as the 50th anniversary episode so you don’t get too far ahead of yourselves and spoil certain things. The Five(ish) doctors - fun little episode where the actors for the 5,6,7th doctors try and get themselves into the 50th anniversary episode (worth watching if nothing else for the Easter egg you’ll see when watching the 50th) Probably missing something but that’s what I’d recommend as a huge fan of Doctor Who 😊👍

Rosie Batey(DarthYoda066)

Last post I promise 😂 The curse of the fatal death (comic relief episode from 1999 which stars Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant, Joanna Lumley, Jim Broadbent and Jonathan Pryce among others 👍)

Daniel Gallacher

Great reaction guys. :) Was really great seeing you watch it for the first time Greg and John being able to re-watch it with fresh eyes. One of my favourite shows of all time and you've got a lot of great stuff to look forward to in it. I've always loved Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor too. He has so many layers just like the other Doctors. This was the first time a new Doctor Who episode had been on TV in 16 years so he had a lot of pressure on his shoulders and I think he knocked it out of the park right from the start.

Dannielle

Great reaction guys! I love how Greg pointed out the energy this episode has because it’s something that carries through the entire show. Also the music is incredible and it only gets better. I’ve always had a soft spot for Eccleston, and I’d like to think I’d be like Rose and take charge but honestly I’d probably be more like Mickey haha. Doctor Who is an adventure and I’m so excited to go on this journey with you guys, it’s going to be Fantastic!

Toasted Toad

Wasn’t there a Children in Need special at the end of Season 1 as well? Maybe 2 or 3 mins? That Paul McGann movie was dire. I liked him, but nothing else. Wouldn’t recommend the 5 doctors stuff either. The other specials are good, though. It’s been a long time since I saw the Rowan Atkinson, Joanna Lovely etc sketch, but I remember laughing my ass off at the time.

Rosie Batey(DarthYoda066)

Toasted toad, yeah “Born again” it’s immediately after “parting of the ways” and just before the “Christmas invasion” it’s about 8 minutes long 👍 Now that you mention it there are some short videos from “Dr Who at the Proms” (basically a celebration of all the music in dr who) like “music of the Spheres” and I think “attack of the graske” but could be wrong on that last one 😂

Rosie Batey(DarthYoda066)

And yeah it’s not a masterpiece 😂 more of an experience I’d say 👍

Toasted Toad

There are a tonne of extras on the DVD’s. The Dr Who Confidentials and other diaries etc are amazing. That’s not for reactions though, that’s just for fun

Rosie Batey(DarthYoda066)

Yeah love the Dr diaries and stuff from the earlier seasons and I adored dr who confidential, really wished they still did it, be really cool to see the behind the scenes for the later seasons like 7-12 in the dr who confidential format.

Rudolph Koch

Finally!! I've been a Whovian since 1974 (4th doctor- Baker) They wrote the show for kids to "watch behind the couch" But the great thing I love about Dr. Who is it never takes itself too seriously, and seems sometimes to go out of it's way to BE cheesey. The restart has TONS more production than the other 8 doctors. Lookup the Candyman, and your get what I mean.

thereelrejects

Hahaha yeah, off that first ep, the initial "next-time-on" is like "HOLY SHIT, TOOOTALLY DIFFERENT TIME/PLACE/ETC. AAAHHH!" Very fun tease to the rest of the world to come. Apologies for the lateness of this reply, but I'm very glad you're excited for these! This was a long-time coming and it's been SO fun taking this journey with y'all. 'Til the next one!!

thereelrejects

Ahh, so glad you enjoyed!!! (And sorry for the lateness - didn't realize I only got the highlights! 😓). Gahh, but watching with Greg has been so magical. I don't remember much in the way of actual plot details & resolutions, but to be watching with someone going in TOTALLY cold has been a pretty fun treat. And YESSSS!!! I feel so vindicated in this moment lol. I'm used to being pretty alone on the Eccleston love, but god even just revisiting him here, I just LOVE the notes he brings to both the light and darker sides of The Doctor. Very glad we decided to pick up from here :) As for the "Next-Time"s, we're doing our best to skip 'em now. They pop up so fast at the end!! lol

thereelrejects

Hey hey! Haha inadvertently good timing 😅I've been rooting for Jodie Whittaker in the role, but I've heard a lot of mixed things, generally.

thereelrejects

Oh, snap!! Obviously terrible circumstance, but that is a pretty fun in-the-know kinda easter egg. Hah! Appreciate the recommendations as well! At the moment, I think it'd be a bit tough to work in the additional mini-sodes, but I'll have a look n see where they come in. I might be tempted to at least check 'em out n reference them, even if we don't react. Been curious about Torchwood for a long time as well, so once we reach that point, I'll probably at least check out the pilot and see what it's like. And yeah, doing our best now to clip the episode soon as the "Next Time On..." starts. The first couple were pretty fun, just hinting at the expanse of the world & stories to explore, but yeah... no spoilers por favor 😅 Definitely gonna be keeping eyes peeled for the little details.. I think at least one significant one has made an appearance at the point we're to now.. but I won't say much more (...since I don't know much more lol).

thereelrejects

Aw, thank you so much, Kayleigh!! I'm so sorry for grabbing your comment so late - sometimes they pile up and for this ep, some reason I only got the highlights responded to 😖 AAHHH, but this has been SUCH a fun experience so far. Really glad you enjoyed the reaction!!! I recall a couple vague things from episodes years ago, but to be able to really start watching the show along with someone who previously knew pretty much NOTHING about it has been so much fun. That wonder and sense of discovery really hits! Anyhow, hope you're still enjoying & I'll do me best not to leave you hangin' in future. Onto ep. 6 this weekend!!!

thereelrejects

Ahhh nice!! Appreciate this, Ryan - just took a screenshot for reference! And thanks to Toad as well for weighing in 😝

thereelrejects

Haha you're good, bud!! Appreciate the info & enthusiasm! From what I've just read above, this one's pretty funny... 😝

Crystal

Super cool to see Greg's reaction to the first episode as someone who had no idea what he was getting into! Looking forward to the many seasons ahead.
