I want to say this was the second best directed episode , or at least the second best visually impressive episode. Be it art, animation , cinematography . The other one was the ep where L died. I sometimes forget that this show can put some really impressive visuals . Also since youre are close to the end i think i can say this . A lot of people hated the second half of this show . Everything post L was harshly critiqued and especially the OP , back in the day . So as a joke , people were saying the OP shows what a trainwreck death note became , lol. I honestly sorta agreed with them , But now I donnt mind it as much and I am more experencied in watching anime so I can at least have a bit of thought put into why i dislike it or like it specific episodes. Youre also right how the second half of this show, post L have a very different feel to it and just how its structured , And I guess its that kind of jarring change made people dislike the show . I forgot that Mello dies this way , that was actually underwhelming . I expected something more . And the way Takeda acted during phonecall , i think it was a cry for help, like an actual cry even tho she knew how motherfucking Light was . Also the comparison between Light and HIsoka , lol. I think Hisoka just gets aroused whenever theres strong people arround him and he has no issue of killing them . Like we know his goals we just dont know what he is thinking at the exact moment . But he never pretends that hes someone hes not . Light on the other hand just reeks fake . Despite we know he is a piece of shit hahah. Also I dont think hes getting aroused killing all those people . I also like how your recent reviews get longer and longer , haha . I think thats a sign of a good or at least enganging show

2021-07-15 04:53:09 Aw haha, I appreciate that mate! Glad you're not getting bored 😅I'm always happy when a show offers up a lot to chew on. I could see that! I think they do these sorts of episodes especially well - the grave, atmospheric ones. The Naomi episode way back comes to mind, definitely L's death as well. Part of me wishes I could just walk around in the world during these episodes haha. Really impressive art. I guess I sorta suspected that the response to things post-L might've soured a bit.. Partly, he was just such a compelling, magical center for the show and partly because that part feels a lot more developed? I will always adore this OP lol, but to be fair, that make me laugh. Still holding out for the finale to reflect & start forming solid overall opinions, but this half of the show does feel a bit choppier and more compact. Me as a viewer, I don't so much mind a change if it's well-handled. From here I feel like there's a lot of good stuff in the second half, but not as strong as the first. The Mello bit legit bummed me out haha. I was rather enjoying the way they had him woven into the background & was hoping he and his crew would emerge as some sort of Yin to Near's Yang, but... well, that didn't happen.. 😅 And I'm not sure what that means, really. I guess it makes sense, given Mello's general style? Feels like they set up a cool character they realized they had no real use for and wrote him out lol. Not that I entirely dislike the subversion there, but if that was the plan I feel like Mello could've used a few more "moments." As for Takeda, I think you're right there, which is heartbreaking lol (especially seeing the scene back a couple times now). Certainly looked/sounded like a legitimate plea. Gave the whole thing an extra layer of emotional twistedness, because you know Light gives negative fucks and Takeda is still.. at least.. a little bit human.. lol. As for Light and Hisoka lol, I'm glad we're deconstructing this, because you're absolutely right. Hisoka gets hard for formidable opponents & the thrill of the kill and has no problem showing it. With Light I don't think it's the actual killing so much as him having an internal Lightgasm each time he thinks he's outsmarted somebody lol. There's some wonderful internal Lightgasm monologuing in the one that's going up today 😅
