My first real time video with you as a Patron! I look forward to watching and commenting on this one, but wanted to just say Hi!

Interesting discussion. As for all the things you've asked, in the words of River Song... spoilers!

I liked your Reaction to this one. It's not one of my favorites from this season, but it's pretty solid. And we get some good stuff with the scene between Cas and Uriel talking at the playground. A bit of insider info. I always love that stuff. Then at the end, between Cas and Dean, we got to learn more about Castiel. He's always looking at the everything the boys are doing and saying with such intensity. Like he's studying them. That's cool. I like the concept of the humans teaching the angels. For the reason's you discussed. Give the angels some perspective. Uriel seemed like a dick. At least seems like Cas respects humanity. It is cool when the show touches back to things we got in the past, like Sam's Faith. A touch back to season 2 with the ghost pastor. At least it's in the season's main arc. I do get tired of how they continue to present Dean with regards to women. It can get to be too much, and not how I see Dean. Sorry for my comments being so poorly presented. I'm not home and I'm in a bit of a rush. Look forward to your next reaction!

One of my fave omg moments from this episode is when Uriel confirms what Lilith told us in Yellow Fever - that Dean remembers Hell. I always look forward to your SPN reactions!

Jani Salminen

I just realized that the girl's actress who was boiled alive in the apple bucket is Luisa D'Oliveira. She plays in another CW show "The 100". There are quite a lot of other actors and actresses who have acted on both shows.

Aw, welcome!! Thanks for sayin' hey :) and glad you've already found someone you know! Hope you dig the videos!!!

Michele

Awwww. That's cute. You think you'll get answers in the very next episode. Sweet ;)

Michele

I will likely recognize several of the other Patron's. It's a bit of a club. Us viewers of Reactors doing SPN. lol

Loved your discussion for this one and watching you speculate over how Sam and Dean will both fit into the Lucifer storyline. I really like the idea that angels have been so distant from humanity for so long that they don't understand the beings they are supposed to protect. When Castiel admits that he's been following orders for so long that he doesn't even know if his actions are right or wrong, it's the closest he's come to being human. He admitted doubt. You were right in the video, this season's gonna be intense. Both of the actors give some great performances this season. Thanks for all the work you do so I can laugh for an hour! P.S. That clip of Sam mentioning Halloween was from the pilot episode. He was talking to Jessica.

No worries!! Appreciate your thoughts here! I think we'd agree there are definitely some aspects of Dean's interactions with women that haven't aged... terrifically.. and feel generally trope-ish. I did like the hints from a couple of the previous episodes that, deep down, Dean wants a companion & family of his own - hoping that theme figures somewhere into his personality down the road perhaps. Appreciate your take on Castiel as well. Really enjoying getting to know him and I like the way they've illustrated the sort of detachment that could theoretically come with being an otherworldly.. being, the contrast against Uriel, etc. Not being human, they don't have the lived-in perspective and I really like the conflict they've drawn for Cas as well as, like you said, the humans-teaching-angels aspect. Quite enjoyed how this one brought back the themes of Sam's faith from previous episodes as well. Love little character threads like that.

Aw, I'm glad!! These are so much fun to shoot :) always look forward to them. And yeah, this one had some good wrap-up moments! Uriel does seem very much a dick lol, but the talk between him and Sam toward the end was great. "Ask Dean what he remembers from Hell" was a nice gut-punch.

Ooh, cool! Over the years I've definitely gotten the sense that the CW has a stable of guest actors they like to spread around from show to show. I'd imagine other networks do as well, but it seems most apparent with them haha.

Damn haha, way back!! Definitely appreciate the refresher from the Pilot 😅 So glad to hear you're enjoying watching along with us. It's worth the work if we know y'all are out there getting a good hour of laughter in 😊always look forward to shooting Supernatural. And very much agree, the contrast between the perspectives in Uriel & Castiel is pretty striking, and I loved that element that Cas been following orders so long, he's losing grip on morality. Just the whole idea in general that, though divine, the angles haven't had the human experience and are quite detached from who they're watching over I thought was a really nice take. Another instance of SPN taking a familiar concept and bending it creatively to their unique style.

I know that the way Dean is with women in the early seasons is not particularly great. But the fact is that it is relatively true to life. I have been friends with guys like Dean (but without the heroic side!), and they could be great people. In time, they grew out of it. I'd give them the odd slap round the head and laugh at them. Dean is an unattached adult who enjoys sex. For all people tutting at him, I don't see anything wrong with that. These girls might be a bit young for Dean, but they are definitely above the age of consent if they want him. He is not actually from the FBI!!

Steve Rivera

The razor blade camera is INSANE such a gross angle and the way the blood squirts after he pulls it out 😫 To me the biggest takeaway from this episode is theAngel's. We definitely needed more time with them. It was great to see them away from the boys and just talking. That side of the world needed expansion and you get a sense of their power. You also get to see their individuality, however diminute it may be. It does seem orders come before everything, something the angels very cleverly used against Dean because of his obedience to his father.

This show has some of the most creative, brutal deaths. There's times where the gore rivals that of Hannibal and GoT.

You have obviously learned a ton about the SPN Angel lore since watching this episode and I'm sure you've had plenty of discussions regarding the angels and their depiction/portrayal since, so I won't go into it, but I do find it interesting that neither you nor anyone in the comments brought up the Old Testament. God, Angels, Heaven...depending on what interpretation you believe in or what your religion is...it ain't all that warm and fuzzy. If there were any jewish patrons around, I'm sure they could tell you more about it :D Does SPN later bring up the Old Testament? I don't remember... rewatching the show with your reactions for the first time in like 10 years haha

I'm assuming there's no way they will see these comments since it's been so long since they reviewed the episode but I thought I'd chime in as a jew (though I do not claim to be an expert on the religion or anything). God in general is a much more serious, fear-inspiring figure in Judaism. He is spiteful and revengeful and sometimes downright petty. As far as angels and heaven and whatnot, even though they are mentioned in the old testament (again, as terrifying violent beings), they aren't really talked about very much in synagogue, at least in my experience as a reform Jew. But the theme of god's wrath is definitely very prevalent in Judaism. It is fun to see angels portrayed in this way instead of the traditional Christian way which has been done to death. Interestingly, Judaism does not subscribe to the idea of eternal damnation, so our concept of hell is very different. Also, Satan does not mean the same thing in the old testament as it does in the new testament. The idea of the devil/Lucifer as we know it is entirely Christian. All religions have things that are very meaningful and others that come across as silly to outsiders. Growing up as a jew in a small predominantly christian town in the south, the idea of Satan, a guy with horns and a tail who is terrible but also punishes terrible people and is just like generally the worst, has always been one of the things about Christianity that struck me as silly. (To be clear, I mean no offense to Christians. Judaism has plenty of equally silly things. Don't even get me started lol) Anyway nice to see someone who is also catching up years after these were filmed. I'm loving these reactions so far and can't wait until months from now when I am caught up and can begin commenting on each episode as it's posted.
