My ratings are pretty much exactly the same as Gregs. I can't decide between my top 3 but it's definitely 73 years, Rogue, and the Devils Chord in SOME order. Dot & Bubble, and Space Babies are definitely at the bottom. I think the concept of an idea being important isn't really anything new, it reminds me of the series 3 finale when the power of prayer hacking into the psychic network brought the Doctor back. I guess that's kind of what they were going for here. As for the snowfall, it's a nitpic but I think given what Mrs Flood was wearing, it might be explained. If it's not, then I'm ok with it.

So. So, so, so. I have been very silent throughout this series and now I suppose it is the time to talk... When it comes to this episode, Empire of Death, I can't start with anything but that I'm awfully disappointed. Rating-wise, maybe a 6/10, because it's not a bad episode per se! it just basically didn't do nothing I enjoyed either. Now, that's a bit of a lie: I liked the execution of the ending, though I was quite QUITE disappointed in the mother reveal. And that's it, I can't think of anything else I liked about it. I would certainly rank it as my least favourite of the season (yes, below Space Babies), but I think it just showcases how much I genuinely liked this series. 'Cause I wouldn't have felt this all-encompassing disappointment in the episode if it had been a Chibnal-era finale. But with how much I have loved the entire series (even when I've had my little nit-picks), I was expecting more. It's also RTD, who I know could've done better. And frankly, beyond everything, I'm beyond frustrated with how little they did with Sutekh. Visually he was great, but I feel like he was more, well just more everything in his introductory story (Pyramids of Mars). And the way this "worst villain the Doctor has ever encountered" was defeated so bloody easily and (frankly) idiotically drives me insane. So, maybe it's not even a 6/10, but no it is 'cause it's not a bad episode. But I also kinda just hate the episode so I don't know what to think...... But when it comes to the entire series, like I already said, I really really liked it. Even more than with the specials, I feel like the routine of the Doctor Who that I loved and grew up with has returned. The writing has been stellar, the acting, the stories, the settings, the whole bunch. And beyond everything, I love being excited about the next episode, whatever that might be. I fell in love with Ncuti though I did find the amount 15 cries to become a bit of a nuisance. I really enjoyed Ruby but even with this emotional factor with her mother, I didn't really find myself connecting with her emotionally. And I think this might be the mystery-box-character-problem that a lot of people criticised with Clara; and that might factor in with why I didn't really enjoy the reveal of her mother though I appreciate it on a conceptual level; because of how much the mystery of her has been emphasised when that was made null, I didn't find myself being emotionally empacted by the emotional side of the mother reveal because it had been made into something other than an emotional character beat. And yes, I feel like I've just criticised, which is why I wanna repeat I LOVED THESE EPISODES for the most part. My rating for the series as a whole is probably a solid 8/10. As for my ranking, I'd say: 1.) 73 Yards, 2.) Rogue, & 3) Boom. I can't wait for the next series and before that the Christmas special! I definitely think that most of the unresolved mysteries will come back and who knows maybe the next series could even fix some of the issues I have with this series. One thing I know for sure is that Doctor Who is back and it sure as hell has the right to be here to stay!

Liked this episode even more a second time. I got RTD's Torchwood versus Abaddon (son of the Beast) shadow vibes from the dust rather than flat out Infinity War vibes but definitely both overall. It was a shorter than normal season but it had some of the best episodes we've had in a while. I think it does all tie back to the specials and Devil's Chord - not that Sutekh relied on that but that the others could sense him ready to move because they're of the same DW Pantheon mythos. Toymaker and Maestro had arrogance that The Doctor may have defeated them but would lose to a bigger god. I still have my thoughts on Mrs. Flood and whether she herself is one because she says she had plans and like them she sensed it coming. Overall I enjoyed the season, I wasn't the biggest fan of 2 of the episodes BUT I find thats true of most seasons, even the Tennant/Smith/Capaldi eras would have 2-3 episodes a season I don't hold in the highest regard, I think the season being shorter than the typical makes it that having 2 "okay" episodes feels bad BUT even those tied back in so it wasn't exactly wasteful filler, they served a small purpose. Maybe they'll all grow on me in my rewatch leading up to Christmas. Don't think it's the last time we see Millie Gibson as Ruby at all, I just have an inkling.
