I really don't know if this sort of format will be interesting to anyone, but I figured I might as well record it and see what you think. This is about 40 minutes of me cleaning up the Laugo Alien after its dust test, rambling about the gun and the testing as I do. Plus intermittent silent gaps when I working on the cleaning.

If this is interesting to you, please let me know, and I will consider doing more of this as supporter-exclusive material in the future...

Ian, I'd watch it if you were field stripping a clicky pen.

I, for one, would love a series of videos with Ian just cleaning his guns and talking about whatever he feels like. I can think of no better therapy.

Chris Denner

I like this type of video. To hear your thoughts on this pistol is fantastic.

Adrian Perry

I second all of the comments already made. This sort of content is as valuable and interesting in its way as your other videos. Would love to see more

I haven't watched the mud or dust tests, but I did enjoy the clean up, and especially the stream of thought commentary. I was surprised to not see you pull out a nylon brush.

I used to like sitting around cleaning my guns for fun until I recently conducted a big shoot with my whole collection of over 20 antique rifles and pistols... lucky for me they will be in storage for the next three years so I'll have time to get the nightmares of CLP and carbon out of my head before I have to touch them again...

The dusty mag issue reminded me of Iraq. We drove through a huge sandstorm for over an hour. My M4 was in the Stryker and stayed clean but I hadn't thought of the mags on my vest. When we were done for the day and cleaned our equipment, I pulled out the mags and started popping the rounds out only to find that my follower wouldn't budge due to all the dust seeping into the little hole in the floor plate. Luckily I didn't have to use that rifle on that patrol or I would have had a rather unpleasant surprise. The M240 on the other hand eat dust like it was a thanksgiving turkey.

The design of the gas brake piston is much better than in Vector CP1: the piston can be disassembled to the front. Any crud collecting in the rear end of the gas cylinder doesn't prevent disassembly. My Vector cut a piece of every bullet and finally stopped working, and I couldn't retract the slide to strip the pistol without beating the slide back with a mallet.

I distinctly remember watching the mud test and thinking to myself, "Man, I really would love to see more post-mud test cleaning videos." I'm not being sarcastic, this kind of video is immensely satisfying to watch, as well as informative. It's always nice to see how other people clean their guns

Your interview with Mr. Neophytou is probably my favorite video of yours and the PAW has to be the downright coolest weapon on your channel. Do you know if it ever saw mentionable adoption?

Anonymous

Any news on larger, standard, capacity magazines?

Hozi

Nice ramble

Hozi

Good update for the gun could be better sealed mags and sand cuts on the internal slide?

Anonymous

Sweet video and very interesting.

Thought for cleaning aid. There are terry cloth sleeves made by Sllide-O-Mix that are super for removing water/oil/debris from trombone slides and would do the same for inner magazine walls and magazine well. Machine washable and last a long time. Fit over 30 cal clean rods easily.

William Flowers

You should collaborate with James 🩳 and do a TFBtv sub zero torture test

William Flowers

Omg, I absolutely need one of those compressed air guns. Can’t believe I never thought of that🤦🏻‍♂️

Glenn Miller

I welcome more videos like this. Fantastic!

I second the freezing test, I mean, how else will you know if it will survive in Finnish Brutality? Edit: Ah, you address this later in the video. Since you brought up the cleaning interval question, I wonder how long it would take for reloads with a hot, dirty powder like Titegroup to gum up the system.

Anonymous

Also want to add, it would have been cool to see how a standard Glock would stand up to the moon dust test as a control . . .

This is perfect content for Patreon subs. I enjoy hearing your opinions and thoughts as you go through each part and/or subassemly of the gun and your experience with the gun is priceless... since I'll never find the budget to buy one myself. This is exactly the sort of content I'd like to see more of in the future.

As someone who lives in a very gun strict land (Ireland) I cordially hate and envy you! The longer and nerdier the better!

RogueIV

Great content Ian! Might want to get a pack of firm tooth brushes for cleaning out those grip areas, makes life easier.

Anonymous

funny, I started out my sunday wood piling and dubbin around the yard listening to the inkunzi videos. why didn't you clean the bore? i try not to stress too much about cleaning but one thing I always worry about is sand getting in the chamber and possibly scoring it. probably silly.

Anonymous

I like listening to you describe things. In Australia your videos come out at midnight it is the last thing I watch before bed. This coming out in the morning threw my routine I’ll have to take a nap now.

Anonymous

I'm glad to see the video. I was wondering how he would clean it.

Anonymous

I like this. It is interesting to hear you ramble about a gun you clearly like and at the same time I find the cleaning very interesting. Usually your videos are quite structured, so these unscripted ones are a welcome addition and are equally entertaining. After watching the tests I was indeed wondering how it would be to clean it, so this makes me happy.

Anonymous

I found the cleanup and commentary very interesting. A fter my years of shooting percussion pistols and their resultant soot and grime, I expected you to run the Laugo through some hot soapy water first to really get the abrasive dust completely out.

Anonymous

I have not seen the Mud and Sand Tests yet. But after seeing you cleaning the Alien I will be watching them after putting my two cents in this comment. I do enjoy cleaning my own guns and I really enjoyed watching you cleaning your Alien. How about some more videos Ian on you cleaning other guns. Not only you can ramble away while you are cleaning them. You can also explain to those who may not know how to properly clean their guns. Great video and do think about more.

Douglas Knapp

HAH! Tell me about it; I live in Colombia. In both places it's probably WAY easier to get illegal arms than legal ones! I don't even bother, even though I had inherited an excellent revolver and rifle, I didn't even try to bring `em down.

Douglas Knapp

Ian, I agree with the rest, the test and the results with the cleaning were useful and interesting. After all, each one of us doesn't necessarily watch every single video! (Sorry if that hurts your feelings!)

Seeing how the top strap is the sights, hammer and comes off as one piece. Should be easy to do a quick brush out of dirt at a match. Has Laugo said anything about making replacement top strap assemblies. If ran into serious trouble just change out top plate assembly.

Dana Arbeit

Enjoyed the video. Nice to see the use of that universal gun cleaning tool-the old T-shirt!

Anonymous

What about any sand that got in to the safety or trigger ?

Anonymous

Love it, would be happy with more of these

Anonymous

Two comments: 1. This thing seems perfect for a suppressor. Going to try one? 2. When you do the freeze test be aware that ice can stick a firing pin in either position. Had a shotgun slam fire on me after a duck hunting mishap once. Also: if the gas port on this gun plugs up I foresee Very Bad Things happening.

Anonymous

Enjoyed this a lot, Ian!

This is my favorite content. These, MRE’s, and mystery rifle unboxings would keep me endlessly entertained.

Robert Socal

This was amazingly good. If I can share my personal hit-parade, this is on par with the videos about gun mechanics and problems that happen during gun development, like mysterious "Garand 7th round".

Grant Janzen

I greatly enjoyed watching all of the Laugo Alien videos: the examination/disassembly, range firing, the mud and dust tests, and, finally, the disassembly and cleaning with your commentary. I hope that this is not the last we will see of the Alien, nor the last we will see of a series of videos on the same firearm.

Anonymous

I enjoy this sort of content.

Well, I wonder why didn't you use any sort of brush. In this case - dry sand and dust - it would be my first choice. I know that every shooter has his own specific "cleaning system", and you maybe just don't like brushes. And maybe you don't use brushes for some important reason? As you know, for many of us, your voice is The God's Voice ;-)

Nate

I definitely wanted to see one or two of the post test cleanings. I'm about a 3rd of the way through. So far I like the long form commentary and getting a closer and slower look at the guts of the gun.

David Morris

A little wear is a feature. It's the "put lube here" indication.

Séb Ferrara

Really nice to watch (and listen)

Andrey Gardner

I appreciate the extra value for supporters that does not detract from primary content production. If you are a going to be cleaning guns and rambling, I might as well follow along. Utreon live stream next time?

Anonymous

I really liked this format and discussion! I’d like to see more, if possible.

Anonymous

I don't see this pistol being a big success in the US at the current price point.

Anonymous

Cool video. Thanks for posting it.

Wanting to see this got me to join not only your Patreon but Patreon in general, so yeah, I'm interested in more content like this. :)
