The solution to the heat is easy: mount the red dot forward directly over the gas cylinder, which will keep your hand away from the toasty zone and allow you to grab the slide at the rear, away from the ejection port, like we all learned to do before red dots showed up. It would make for some strange holsters, and maybe force development of more heat-resistant mounts and batteries, but welcome to the brave new world of R&D. Hopefully we see a service version developed (It needs backup irons, maybe some weight-saving measures, and a non-stratospheric price tag)
