RE: Absinth. The real absinth should have no taste of anise at all. The most authentic to my mind brand of absinth is "King of Spirits" produced in Czech Republic. It is 70% proof and contains fragments of absinth plant on the bottom. Available in Prague.

Have you thought of doing a machine gun (light or heavy?) match as a team based event? Then you could quantify the efficiencies of the team against each other in shooting, moving to a new position and reloading.

Ian, thanks for answering my question about designing LMG matches! I'm working with some programmer friends to make an app or raspberry pi based shot timer that can score bursts and the time between them. It's a first step.

Idea for light machine course: Use a big spinner and the Remote Brutality kettlebell challenge. If a spinner was heavy enough getting several hits could be better than semi auto maybe?

If the M1 carbine were more reliable long term might it have had more impact on the commercial market? I agree it wouldn't change much for the military.

lmg competition would be the bomb but ammo cost. right... where to find enough owners whom are into competition? plates in some irregular row as hits sounds like the way to go but... drive/run out behind every starter? two day match or smaller squats? well I don't know what collections are around behind the doors but germany should have some collections and at least beer brewaries. alfa proj has that 9mil revolver carbine, would love to get my hands on one. -- how about the japanese lmg's? 6,5 seems the middle way between 30cal and 5,45-5,56 small calibers. that chinese 5,8 sounds decent on paper, too. 6something sounds better than standarts though I highly doubt nato is going to change anything unless REAAAL performance jump.

Thanks for the answer re: taking photos. Shame but expected; still didn't hurt to ask. OH ALSO, regarding absinthe; more to the original OP: Try bohemian mule (So moscow mule but sub the vodka for absinthe). Use maybe half the absinthe as you would vodka, so 1oz.

For measuring suppressive five, would an accelerometer on the back of a plate be able to register hits? Alternatively would bleachers packed with racks of knockdown targets be able to capture volume suppression?

As an alternative example of firearms development dead ends, I recall reading years ago that when the properties of fulminates were discovered, firearms designers initially tried using them as sole propellants. Their use in this way proved entirely unsuitable due to the instability of the chemical compounds, metallurgical inconsistencies of the time and the dangers of manufacturing the propellant in large quantities. As a result, black powder continued to predominate until the idea of primary propellants was perfected, with fulmimates of silver and mercury being used in priming caps.
