This is scheduled to publish on December 10th, but I'm linking it here early for everyone on Patreon because as Paul mentions in the video, BRN-10 production is over. They have a couple hundred rifles still in inventory, so if you were waffling (hahaha!) over getting one, you might want to act soon. You can find them at Brownells' web site. I don't get any cut or other benefit from sales; just want to see you folks get the chance at one if you want it.

Bringing a Retro Rifle to Life: The Brownells BRN-10 with Paul Levy

http://www.patreon.com/ForgottenWeapons https://www.floatplane.com/channel/ForgottenWeapons/home Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! http://shop.bbtv.com/collections/forgotten-weapons Today I'm sitting down with Paul Levy from Brownells to talk about the development process for the BRN-10, their Retro copy of the original Armalite AR-10. Brownells is one of a small cadre of companies who have actually been able to successfully execute a project like this, and I wanted to pick Paul's brain a bit about some of the challenges and decisions involved. My BRN177E2 is my favorite rifle at this time. Love that thing.

Love Brownells, even though every time I'm there my credit cards somehow become maxed out.

Durn. There goes my budget since I ordered one. Do they still have the zero/sight problems and the dragging/hard charging handle with the latest versions? I thought I had read it comes with two rear apertures now so you can install another if you have issues but I dont see that now.

Anonymous

Ha, Ian had the opposite problem that I did. I wanted the 10A heavy barrel version but not so much the brown furniture. I ended getting the 10A version anyway. I'll learn to love it.

That’s funny, I have both Brownell’s versions, but I want to seek my heavy barrel one and keep the brown furniture on the lightweight one. I didn’t think that the black furniture on a heavy barrel BRN-10 would be easy to ARRL so I haven’t done it. I might go ahead with it now as you can’t be the only one that’s wanting a black furniture, heavy barrel BRN-10.

Thanks Ian. I have all that I want to include both the 10 & 15 models. I was wondering how long they would be in production.

Just finished buying my parts to make my own brn 10, glad I got it in time

Thanks for the heads up, Ian. It is the final excuse I needed to get a semi auto 308 into the collection.

Brian Burchanowski

Purchased! Thanks for the nudge before these become unobtanium!

Also, FYI for anyone buying one. My friend has one and also has the waffle mags. The mags look super cool, but they are also super flimsy. Like paper thin, including the feed lips. We didn't experiment with bending or modifying the lips, but we tried two or three different mags at the range and had horrible issues with all of them. Malfs every two or three rounds. Reviews on Brownells seem to substantiate our experience. Personally, I bought one of the mags because they're so cool, but I'm also going to get some SR-25 mags for serious use.

I still hope one day we get portuguese AR-10 repro I think they could have gotten away with a higher price tag considering its the most desirable AR-10 configuration

Anonymous

This was the fastest impulse purchase I ever made. Hoping to see my new BRN-10A soon! I grabbed some waffle mags too since they are also discounted on their site.

Thanks, Ian! Just ordered the parts to build an 18" BRN-10 of my own as well. And I pre-ordered a KP-15 lower while I was at it. Brownells is getting a nice little bump from your post.

Bruce Brodnax

So you're saying the repro waffle mags are an accurate repop of the originals? Stunning! ;-)

Bruce Brodnax

The final & most fully developed version, at least until Eagle/Armalite came out w/ their version(s) in the '90s...

Bruce Brodnax

[Sobs because 1: he's poor & 2: he's behind the Granola Curtain & can't have nice things...] Ah well, I'll just have to content myself w/ a modern version once I move to Free America in a few years... ;-)

Thank goodness I got my BRN-10 earlier this year.

Sterling Hess

That sucks to hear the end of the BRN-10, I want one but not in position to buy one right now, just got a Tavor 7 lol

Farmer Brown

Well, I would have bought 1-2 if Brownells imported them to Europe. I tried to get them to, but they just said "will never be for sale here". Bummer, because I have a line on the Original AR-10.

I got one... No regrets!
