Yeah, iPhones work underwater. :)  I continue to work on my scuba certification; trying out a BCD (adjustable floatation vest, basically) today before purchasing.

I just tried one of those inflatable vests, I no like them. I so use to using weights or just muscling my way down. Free diving we would just grab big rocks

You pretty much must have one for scuba; with all the gear it's very useful for buoyancy at the surface. As well as helping you get nicely neutral buoyant while diving.

I just rent gear because I don't dive often enough. Dive gear has a lifespan.

Hey Ian! Looking great! Quick tip from a former swim coach, try to kick alittle less with your knees and more with your full legs. You'll move quicker with less effort. Less effort=less air=more dive time!

See if your trainers have an old 'Horse collar' style flotation vest. Use it - Once. Then you'll apreciate the on-your-back BCSs for the rest of your life.

(I learned with the horse collar style; then used an early BCD. Never went back!)

Try diving with a wing (Hog rig). I started with a BCD, but after I moved to diving a wing, I'd not dive a BCD again.

Yeah and hauling it anywhere is pretty just a burden and expensive. Fine if you live near and often to where you dive though
