A man of fine tastes in both arms and liquor

Did the recipe specifically call for Laphroaig? I wondered because it's the strongest peat-flavored single-malt Islay Scotch I've ever encountered.

Anonymous

I'm not a big fan of peaty scotch but I'm curious about how it might be in this concoction. Will have to give it a go

Good to know, cheers

I hate you ;-) I live in the UK and during the uni. Long holidays I worked on a cocktail bar but you keep posting cocktails I've never come across in 'lower end cocktail bars'. You are costing me money! Yes I keep in a few decent spirits in but you are getting me too get some of the more of the older, less common ones but at least being in the UK costs are lower as no imported duty, just we have to higher alcohol tax. That said I can where my French 75 t-shirt while I'm drinking one 🍸!

I discovered Laphroaig 10 year this last spring. Mixed with some room temperature water it has become not just my favorite scotch but my preferred drink. I couldn’t bring myself to mix it (using cheaper whiskey for that) but this is very interesting. This may warrant a trip to the store.

Interesting. Hmm, Laphroaig 15yr old - check! Fino Sherry - nope. Chartreuse - nope ($77 a bottle in Washington state), Grapefruit bitters - nope. Looks like I will have to settle for just Laphroaig. Will have to try this some day. Oh and I love the deep smokey peat of Laphroaig and other Islay whiskeys.

You made me a fan of Blue Moon. Have you tried a “Death in the Afternoon “?

Tried this with 10 year Laphroaig, very good. Also tried it with Lagavulin, fantastic. Will have to keep my eye out for a bottle of Laphroaig PX, haven’t ever seen it.

that is my favorite scotch brand.... a cocktail with it sorta looks like apostasy .. cocktails are for making poop alcohol taste drinkable... but you are ian, hmmm ... just do not do a mud test with it

Can they make something that doesn't taste like Ditchwater... LOL.

Laphy PX is Travel Retail exclusive - check duty free or super specialist retailers (like Whisky Exchange/Master of Malt in the UK) - I would expect it to be "closer" to the Laga style - fuller and richer than the standard.

Try a "Penicillin" (Peated whisky, ginger & honey) "Blood and Sand" (Scotch, orange, sweet vermouth & Cherry Heering) "Rusty Nail" (Scotch & Drambuie) "Rob Roy" (Scotch Manhattan - with all it's variations) to name a few other classic Scotch cocktails! Working with Scotch in cocktails is a dream because there is SO much diversity of flavour. Welcome to the dark side - we have awesome cocktails -_^

Western isles Laphroaig 15yr old 1,1/4 ounce, 3,7cl Fino Sherry 1/2 1,5cl Chartreuse 3/4 2,2 cl Grapefruit bitters 2 dashes The recipe with some rounding on the numbers. :)

Shame you're not a fan of sherry. In the UK when I was a kid it was sweet and sickly goop that your granny might have at Xmas - not any more. Next time you're in Leeds I'd recommend visiting "Ambiente" - an amazing sherry and tapas bar that might just change your mind.

The Laphroaig in the video (which is a duty free exclusive) is partially aged in very sweet sherry casks. Using the standard 10 year old which is only matured in ex-bourbon casks might result in a cocktail that's more like what would have been served originally.

A friend invented the "Armistice" which is the mix of Armagnac and Pastis... Lol don't try this!

My Hearing is obscured by sin! I can't hear you my lord an savior!

4:17 Darma does, in fact, slip into the video.

Laphroaig is my favourite whisky (a taste I developed during my five and a half years living in Scotland). Its not so much the taste - which is about as good as any really good peaty whisky - but the aroma - that you can enjoy for ages before you actually drink he stuff.

2021-08-14 03:42:23 Hi Ian I will probably ask it on the next Q&A but other than the French 75 (love the t-shirt by the way as well as the cocktail) what is your firearms related cocktail? I must say I'm rather partial to a gunfire on a cold day.

All whiskey is a lie ... they just fill up the bottles at the petrol/ gas station and sell it for a premium. Suckers!
