I really hope that wasn't an original filter, though. Aside from containing asbestos (or so I am told), it's not a good idea to use those. Mine has weird rubber fumes and gives me a headache after a minute.

Agreed. I recently found out the ww2 gas mask I wore when playing army guy as a kid had asbestos in the filter and the ‘dust’ I was breathing in was the filter breaking down. Not feeling warm and fuzzy about that.

Surely one should be wearing gloves along with the mask :) (NBC shoot was the one part of the APWT I did badly at - couldn't wear my glasses inside the mask, and I never got issued the lens inserts I should have had instead :) )
