Posting this one early for all Patrons because once again, the book is substantially cheaper on Amazon than through the publisher. So if you want a copy, best to buy one before the video posts on September 16th.

Book Review: Collector's Guide to the Savage 99 Rifle

Available from Schiffer direct: https://www.schifferbooks.com/a-collectors-guide-to-the-savage-99-rifle-and-its-predecessors-the-model-1895-and-1899-5926.html Or through Amazon: https://amzn.to/2PROjL2 Savage is an often under appreciated gun company, and the Savage Model 99 a rifle often not given the credit it is due. How many other firearms can claim to have been in active production by their original company for 103 years, with more than a million examples made? Well, for those who are interested in collecting the Model 99 (or its earlier iterations, the Model 1895 and Model 1899), David Royal's "Collector's Guide to the Savage 99 Rifle" is the sole and definitive source of information. He carefully catalogs all of Savage's model designations, factory options, production dates, serial numbers, and other such details. It is not a book with a lot of outside context, and thus not much of a general-interest read - but for the serious Savage enthusiast it is indispensable. http://www.patreon.com/ForgottenWeapons Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! http://shop.bbtv.com/collections/forgotten-weapons If you enjoy Forgotten Weapons, check out its sister channel, InRangeTV! http://www.youtube.com/InRangeTVShow

You're a good man, Iain. Or is it Ian? How Scottish are you...?

I would collect them but I'm not that wealthy I do love my 99 made in 1913 that has been re-barreled in 308.

Have a '99 in .243 [sadly, the later box mag version, not the classic rotary] and had seen the book on A-zon, but figured I'm just never going to need to know about all the variations...

Have a 99C with the box magazine. Like most 99's, it doesn't shoot that well.

You oughtta do a video on a marlin model 43 shotgun, not a whole lot of panache I realize but boy I just had one apart and it's as swiss prototype/rube goldberg of a contraption as I've ever seen

"Accompanied by Mrs. Waldeck, he will penetrate the fastnesses of unexplored jungle country on a ten-months search for Paul Redfern, American aviator lost in 1927." To Wikipedia!

Lee Harri

Got mine on the way from Amazon. Great rifle and does not get near the praise and exposure other lever guns get.

Yes, but being a respecter or Savages, you may recognize and have a chance to pick up one of those excellent, 99 Lightweights, in Takedown version in 250-3000 for a song and need to know which and when in was produced.

Heh. Should that near-zero possibility transpire, I'll get it from interlibrary loan (again) and get the deets. But having done so once, I can attest that it is an excellent reference work, & unfortunately, also a rather tedious read... That aside, how much wasted time & effort could have been saved if the U.S. Govt. had just standardized on the 250 Savage in the '20s [or a modified version thereof], skipped the 270 Pedersen, and we'd still be using it today w/o having the whole era of M16/.223 development? An intriguing alternative history debate, given the basis for 308Win development began with the 30 Savage.

A Savage model 99 in .250 savage is a dream unicorn rifle for myself. I'll have to see how much extra money I get from overtime this week and I may have to grab a copy of this book.

I enjoy my Savage 99 F in .308. It was made in the 50's or 60's. I bought it off a friend's dad. He took his only deer with it in 1972.

Grandpas Deer rifle was a Model 99 carbine in 30-30 win. A brutal gun to shoot. Might have to pick this one up.

My father purchased me one of these at 11 years old in .243 Win. It still shoots like a laser.
