This weekend I will be spending some time with Larry Vickers, signing copies of his new book on WW2 Germany arms (which I contributed to). I don't know if I will be able to sit him down for a Q&A video, but if I can, what would you like me to ask him about?

Is he fixin’ to light it up?

Fireclean and eggs

In a video he did which went over Russian Spetznaz training techniques, he demonstrated a live fire drill where the shooter received pistol shots to a bullet proof vest before returning fire. Vickers then remarked that something like this would never fly in the real world due to the inherent dangers. My question, then, is why does he believe that Russia is a fairy tale land, and what magical powers or mystical creatures exist there?

Anders Weidik Bendsen

Military upgrades, are they always? Maybe an example or two that might not have been?

Anonymous

I have read that the Germans had a caseless ammunition development program in WW2, was there anything unique about it compared to more modern programs?

Anonymous

Given that Larry is a fellow southpaw, wonder how he runs right handed bolt guns compared to Ian's technique.

Anonymous

What firearms museums both in the United States and worldwide would he recommend visiting?

Anonymous

What part of firearms sevelopment does he find most interesting😀 and where can I buy a signed copy from you both😁

What handgun would he have picked for the Army's new handgun selection process and why?

Anonymous

Can't think of anything at this time, just be sure to sign my book and thanks for doing so in advance! :)

Before M4s came out Delta used Colt 723s, what were other elite Army units like Special Forces and Rangers issued? Special carbines like Delta or M16s like Big Army?

Corey Allhands

Does he have plans to do another one of his 1911 build classes? Specifically in the Phoenix area.

Anonymous

Why were the Germans unique in developing a "general purpose" belt fed machine gun that was issued down to the squad level? That provided their infantry with firepower superiority compared to the magazine-fed LMGs used by all the other armies in WW2. What sparked that new development, and why didn't other armies copy them?

Anonymous

With his work with HK, is he aware of any handgun prototypes in 10mm or future plans for one in the guise of a USP or HK10 platform?

Anonymous

Does he have a preference between the Inglis built Hi Powers and the FN produced pistols? I own one of each and I prefer the Inglis, would be great to hear an opinion from someone with as much trigger time as Larry.

Christian Hanes

Any guns you regret selling/buying?

Christian Hanes

I think he's right handed but left eye dominant, if you watch him shoot a handgun, he shoot it right handed.

Is the M16/M4 expanding gas system reliable or a determinant?

Anonymous

Larry, would you please get Ian connected with you contacts in Russia so maybe one day we can get a more in depth look at some of the "moon rocks" you had access to on your Russia trip a few years ago.

Almeida

Why is it that every gun expert or former specials forces persons who have vast amounts of knowledge, experience, and skills with all of the most modern and advanced weapons always seem to light up about AKs. Yes they are cheap reliable rifles; but everyone seems to light up when handling them.

Anonymous

Out of all the guns you've ever handled, including your career in Delta, if you could take one and add it to your personal collection, which would it be? (my bet, AEK)

Anonymous

What is your opinion on the WWSD rifle?

Anonymous

If he could talk with/ interview any gun designer or manufacturer living or dead who and why?

Anonymous

Yes, and if he was building it, what changes, if any, would he make to both guns?

Anonymous

WW2 Germany appear to have equipped themselves with a mountain of looted kit, including a zoo of small arms. Did they use each gun's original ammo and kit pouches, or did they design their own load bearing equipment to suit each weapon?

Anonymous

Where is your favorite place to vacation? Or where would you like to vacation but was never able?

Anonymous

It seems the Germans spent an astonishing amount, if not the most into R&D/weapons design during the war. Only rivaled later by the Cold war powers. (Both who Germany fought with and dissolved tech into). Was this technology and its development a benefit, or detriment to Germany's endeavor? As mentioned, Send Ian to Russia!!!

Anonymous

I hear you(Larry) contributed to the development of the HK416? What is your opinion on piston vs "regular" ARs

Michael Pronchick

If you were teleported back to ww2 what job would you want and what gun would you carry.

Bruce Brodnax

Heh! Yeah, I think Ian's smart enough not to broach that topic... ::)

Bruce Brodnax

Well, all the modern programs built off it. Operation Paperclip & all that.

Bruce Brodnax

I think you meant to type "detriment..." And we already know it's reliable, as long as you don't up & decide to change the specified powder to one with grossly different characteristics w/o checking with the firearm designer 1st...

Bruce Brodnax

Do you really expect him to choose someone other than JMB? C'mon, the man did it *all!* ;-)

Bruce Brodnax

A General Purpose Cartridge, as discussed &amp; propounded on Anthony G. Williams website (<a href="http://www.quarryhs.co.uk/)." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.quarryhs.co.uk/).</a> Thoughts?

Anonymous

What's your opinion of the Stoner 63? Do you think it had potential for more development and wider adoption?

Anonymous

What's your take on the .224 valkyrie coming out and given it's promises what are your thought of it being the new military intermediate cartridge?

Anonymous

I was reading the official reports leading up to the M1 adoption and saw somewhere that the Ordnance board recommend not the .276 Pederson or .30-06, but a .258 caliber round. Do you guys know any more information on this type of round and why it hasn’t really been considered since?

Anonymous

Hello Ian, I am only a minor donor but I would like to donate directly. Do you have a webpage where I can do this?

Anonymous

Just tell him Thanks for his service.

Tristan Sobey

Not related to German arms but given his experience and expertise with the 1911 platform, what does he think has been the biggest improvement to the 1911 design over the 100+ years of service and civilian use?

Anonymous

What is his favorite or most memorable improvised firearm repair or enhancement he has encountered?

Bruce Brodnax

More pertinently: "Where would you choose to retire when fleeing the PRK/NY/NJ/IL for free America?" I'd be interested to learn his perspective...

Anonymous

I resently watched the the video of you and Karl discussing Finnish unforms. In it Karl commented on the need of the Finns to be able to destroy a lot of tanks. Given Finns use of soviet weapons, why didn't they adopt the the RPG?

Anonymous

Ian, if I did buy the German arms book. Could I send it to you to sign and pay for it to be sent back pretty please?

ForgottenWeapons

Yes - but I think they still have a supply of books that I signed while I was visiting Larry. If you order today, you can probably get one of those and save the expense of shipping it back out.

VICKERS GUIDE: WWII GERMANY, VOLUME 1 (SIGNATURE EDITION) 125.00 HAND SIGNED BY LARRY VICKERS 360 pages 13" wide by 11" tall (approx.) Commercial quality, section sewn style binding which allows the book to lay flat Full color prints on premium quality photo paper stock Foil stamped, Red linen hardcover Full color protective dust jacket Ribbon page marker Hand Signed by Larry Vickers The information given on the website only states that he has signed it, are these the same ones signed by yourself?

ForgottenWeapons

Yes, that's the one. They didn't specify my signature because they don't want to be obligated to provide it once they run out of the initial signed batch. I live way on the other side of the country from Larry, and it's just not practical for me to drop in to sign books regularly.

Anonymous

Ian! Ordered my book and was confirmed it will have your signature.. Only thing is they changed 70$ for postage :/

ForgottenWeapons

Sorry about that - shipping outside the US is really expensive. The cheaper way is to ship a bunch of books at once to a distributor in Europe, but that guy has not ordered the German WWII book.

Don't apologize mate all good, my present to myself for Christmas! Anyways Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Lurker45

In your video on the Madsen light machine gun you explained how its magazine has no feed lips and is merely a spring-loaded box to retain cartridges. Why wasn't this design more widely used? It both avoids having to manufacture the most exacting piece of the magazine and the possibility of the feed lips being damaged and preventing feeding of cartridges.
