It’s TOUGH! Researchers looked at 33k+ men from 62 nations. For men in societies that believe statements like manhood is “hard won and easily lost” and “some boys do not become men, no matter how old they get”, these men live an average of 7 fewer years and 6 fewer healthy years. They also are at greater risk of negative health outcomes, such as car accidents and liver cirrhosis (often caused by long-term alcohol abuse, which is often caused by emotional suppression). Correlation doesn't mean causation, but lots of research demonstrates that toxic masculinity influences men to not seek help, not prioritize attachments, downplay emotional needs, cope by drinking or distancing or fighting, not talking enough, etc. which can cause earlier health issues and death.
