Jonathan Kent has always been my issue with this movie. It's not the choices made for him. It's that those choices weren't explored more. It's easy enough to see that he inspired Clark to be heroic. But, I think I t's important enough that it should have been clearer.

In replacement of the neck snap, I've always said it would have been just as dramatic if Superman covered Zods eyes to block the heat vision. Zod would rage and the heat vision would fry his brain. You get a man sacrificing part of his body to protect people and a soldier refusing to be captured.
