I think Ashley touched on something I think could also help with framing the conversation. Repeatedly the term "canceled" was used to describe 12 series of SS. Wouldn't a fairer statement be that these runs ONLY RAN for 12 issues. I was under the impression these runs were intended to only run for 12 issues, thus allowing for a new #1 in a year. Were all the series you mentioned all supposed to run longer? Did you research or speak with the creative teams that they had their stories cut short without warning? I understand many series do get canceled, I just think in modern comics we should acknowledge the difference between a that was always intended to run X issues or possibly planting that narrative that the creators failed and their book was canceled.

Yes! I’m a beautiful, sexy person. I always appreciate that validation. 👊

How long comic series run is, of course, a series-by-series basis, but most people we know who have "only" had 12 issues were only ever contracted for short runs like that. It seems to be less and less common for Big 2 stories to go that long. It also keeps production costs lower to bring in new [read as: cheaper] talent every year instead of renewing people's contracts and potentially renegotiating for a higher page rate.
