So in an attempt, to take you all behind the curtain more this year, I want to give you a sneak peak at a prose book that I am working on about Superman.
Here's a small taste of a chapter I was working on this morning. Please keep in mind, this is still very first draft.

THE WORLD OF KRYPTON

Have you ever visited the Fire Falls? What about the Plain of Wanan? Or gazed upon Bokos, the Isle of Thieves? All of these amazing tourist locations can be found on a planet in the Andromeda Galaxy in Sector 2813 as the Green Lantern Corp have designated it. All earthlings know this planet as the birthplace to the man of steel, the planet known as Krypton.

One of the foremost locations in the DC Comics Universe, Krypton has a deep connection to Superman. Beyond his simple genetic origin, this alien planet which orbits the sun known as Rao, has gifted Superman with many elements and features throughout his stories. The signature “S” which brands his chest is the symbol for the House of El. His cape and colors have been shown to be the traditional clothing of the Kryptonian people and Superman has also been gifted with various animals from his home planet including a dog, a cat and Beppo the Super Monkey! (Beppo might look like an Earth monkey, but he’s actually a similar chimpanzee species from the planet of Krypton with telescopic vision! It was the silver age, folks.)

Krypton, like many aspects of Superman, has been reinvented and reinterpreted several times. In its first appearance, the planet’s name isn’t even mentioned. A simple panel of an exploding planet is the only indication we are given about Superman’s extraterrestrial origins. The golden age comics of Superman and his radio serials would later reveal that all of the inhabitants of his home planet had abilities above and beyond mortal men. This was a time when Superman could survive nuclear blasts so it began to raise questions of how could this planet of superhumans not survive their own destruction? However, golden age creative teams weren’t interested in expanding on the history of Krypton. It wasn’t until the silver age of comics that creators like Mort Weisinger began to explore all the hidden secrets of Krypton. These were the stories when the red sun of Krypton was introduced to explain why Kryptonians do not have powers on their own planet.
