Short text post this time around.
I read up a lot about values and it is kind of hard to try and guess the values of colors, but I feel like it is worth it. I did not know about this approach to composition before I googled it because it was part of this art veggies challenge. I hope to apply it more to my own work and have better control of my compositions. And maybe I'll find some time to do some value studies, maybe of movie stills, a lot of how movie composition works can directly be translated to illustrations and sequential art like visual novels and comics.

I hope your week was fine.

That sounds like an interesting Topic 😊 but also complicated 🙈

It is not that complicated! It is mostly about having interesting contrasts that guide the eye. When you work with color it is easy to forget where contrasts lie, or that a bright red is a similar value to a soft blue for example. When you start an illustration and, before you start with colors, make a thumbnail with where the shadows and light are and where you want to guide the viewers eye to, it will help with the composition in the end. If you are interested in the topic, James Gurneys Color and Light is an excellent book that touches this subject.
