I can honestly not see episode 1 Eleanor voluntarily choosing to send herself to the Bad Place. She has grown. Heck, even Jason has! He's still dumb as a box of rocks, but he actually stopped and considered the consequences his actions has for others when he asked Janet to break up.

So, if there is a neutral place, how come only one person lives there? Was there really only one person who got a point total of exactly 0? Or, since just being slightly positive isn't enough to get to the good place, whatever the actual cutoff is?

I think it's more that there was an actual confusion about how much credit she should get for the good that came about as a result of her actions.
