Lyra being obsessed with humans is a popular characterization the fandom came up with (because she once sat like a human on a bench in one scene,) with Sweetie Drops/Bon Bon (many background MLP characters have more than one official name) being her gf who acts as a straight man to her weirdness. Since that's dealing with humans, maybe that's why you thought it's related to Equestria Girls.
