Love this ending! It gets me a bit emotional, and it's hard to get a show to do that. My interpretation of that last scene with the mote of light: Eleanor mentioned several time in the course of the show that what helped her become a better person (and eventually became a key component of the new afterlife) was the little voice in her head that told her not to do bad things. The guy checking his mail was about to throw away an envelope addressed to someone else, until the mote of light hit, and then he retrieved it and gave to the person it belonged to. He essentially listened to his conscience and did something inconvenient for no reward more than helping someone else. It could be argued that the one thing the Cockroaches didn't fix was life on Earth itself. The afterlife was finally working correctly, but life on Earth still gets more complicated all the time. So maybe, by returning the 'lessons' Eleanor learned to Earth, as little moments of conscience, she's helping make life on Earth just a little bit better. A little less miserable.

Not the ending I expected, but I'm happy with it. I can't think of a better way they could've ended it, at the end literally everyone got what they wanted. Bittersweet. It would suck if they left possibility for the series to be continued, but then they just never did, I typically don't like when shows do that, because then it leaves a lot to be desired, and often times they'll bring the show back with much worse quality. Since it had a proper ending, I don't feel "they need to make another season". I agree with you that "The Good Place Sucks" should've been it's own season, but given the time they had, they handled the ending well imo.
