I think in terms of raw power, Natsu is stronger than Erza. The difference is that Erza concentrates it on being effective and Natsu hasn't yet learnt how to do that so a lot of the energy goes into his surroundings. A similar logic goes with the Fairy Law spell. So much magic just everywhere, and having to decided whether each individual they come across is an ally or an enemy, that it really does take a lot of magic power just to cast to spell at all. Attempt that without having the magic needed to actually cast it? Well, we saw how Makarov was when his magic got depleted earlier. Interesting to hear your theory on who Mystogan is. All I will say on the matter is Natsu has already told his who his father is. (It's Igneel, the dragon) I'm glad you enjoyed this arc. While I was enjoying Fairy Tail the first time I watched this (very early into discovering anime) it was the next arc that made the series click with me personally.

I was just making a stupid joke, yes XD In chapter 2 of the manga Mirajane has this to say: "Natsu's father went away suddenly and still hasn't come back. When I say father... not his real father, but the one who raised him. You know, the dragon." So that's pretty much as not spoilery as you can get.
