Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2, episode 15 of Vinland Saga!  Oh wow guys, this one was so tense, and also sad!  I felt so bad for Arnheid, this is the first time we've ever really seen her let it all out.  I honestly had no clue what would happen after the scene of the two of them, they did such a great job of building suspense and then making us wait to find out what happened!  Meanwhile Thorfinn and Einar's discussion has a lot of implications!!!
I'm SO glad I edited the ep with that girl right before this lol!  Thorfinn just remembered Vinland!  Could that be the place where he find hope, peace, freedom, etc.?  Guess we'll find out!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I darn, have I been saying her name wrong this whole time, too? 😬🤭 RIP to that guard soldier. IDK if he was ever good-good, but he was decent enough to let her see Gardar. Man, she better be alright.

LOL maybe?! It kinda sounds like "aid" not "ide" :P To be fair you were probably saying it that way because you heard me do it lol! Yeah that's the thing, he was fairly decent. I know, not telling us what becomes of her after that scene in this ep was just sooo cruel lol.

This episode is amazing & the intensity just gets ramped up. It’s sad to see Gardar just staring at the sky blankly like he’s someone else entirely. I love the ambient sound effects a lot. I think it’s interesting that it sounds like Ketil’s wife has the same almost obsession with wealth as he does even if we don’t know her specific reason for that. Although maybe she wants Gardar punished as soon as possible because of his connection to Arnheid because of her feelings about her husband’s mistress. I think Snaka’s reaction when he realizes Arnheid is there says a lot I think it tells us that he does feel for her situation but isn’t going to change his mind about what’s going to happen. I like the guy who is enamored by Arnheid it’s nice to see a decent side to Snake’s group. It’s bittersweet that Gardar immediately recognizes his wife’s voice. The scene between the two of them is just tragically beautiful. I think the guests making awful jokes was a way to emphasize the horrible situation she’s in. It’s really sad to see how much guilt both of them have about what happened as well as see the physical representation of their grief/suffering with Arnheid’s devastating breakdown as she just lets out everything she has been holding in until now. Her performance is breathtaking & impressive and even though I like her VA more Gardar had a great performance especially with his intensity. It upsets me that Gardar still doesn’t know his son died but it’s understandable that with her current state of mind she wasn’t able to talk about that. I do love the parallel between him & Thorfinn with the both of them realizing they were wrong with the choices they made being warriors. And unfortunately the guests once again underestimated Gardar & Snake’s warnings. I feel bad for this guest who was actually doing something kind for Arnheid getting killed in one of the most brutal ways possible with Gardar going right for the throat. It looks like he had been working at the part of the rope tying him to the post to give him just enough reach to get to that guest. It shows his intelligence that he was waiting for the perfect moment to strike. It’s painful to see the shock & fight or flight mode Arnheid goes into at this moment but it makes perfect sense because on one hand she doesn’t want to rock the boat because she wants the child on the way to have a happy life & on the other hand in this moment she was worried Gardar was going to be killed, she was going to die & especially that her baby was going to die & the amazing animation showed that conflict very well. With that in mind I immediately believed that she was the one who freed him but I totally understand not being sure. Also the one guest going “this is fucked” describes a situations in this show & the world during this time period and its darkly funny. It’s sad & brutal to fully understand just how much Snake cares about his men while a bunch of them are dead around him. The scene of Snake declaring his intention to kill Gardar is amazing with time slowing down thanks to the animation enough to see the individual drops of water & the detail on his face is impressive. However it’s rough because most of us don’t want that to happen but it’s also rough because we can understand his perspective. Oh yeah and being able to know Gardar was injured again badly just by looking at a sword is interesting & probably a factual thing. I love the quiet moments between Thorfinn & Einar where they can just talk. I think it’s great to see how contemplative/reflective they are even if it had to be because of a horrible situation. Freedom being taken away is a great theme to explore so I love how it was a main focus of this conversation. I love seeing how much thought Thorfinn has put into how to get rid of war even if he doesn’t have an answer. It’s so true that slavery & many other horrible things are very much intertwined with war. Which means if peace & understanding increased so many awful things would decrease dramatically. And it’s understandable that he doesn’t have an answer since even now we don’t have a complete answer to these things. I love how the show actually goes into how hard it is to change a person’s mindset especially if it is normalized because that is very real & an important thing for people to think about/discuss because of how many people today have awful mindsets/beliefs & it seems almost impossible to change their minds although I think nothing is impossible it’s just very hard which is why it’s so important for people like Thorfinn to try to change things. I think we can agree that complete pacifism shouldn’t be so odd although I also think there is an interesting conversation to be had about pacifism versus pacifism except in the case of self-defense. I love this idea/drive without him to build and grow more than what he destroyed as a way to make up for all those he had killed. Wanting to give the dead a peaceful place to rest is very heartfelt I love how introspective he is in this scene. Just the idea of a village without swords is powerful because of how it connects to Thors’ ideals & how much of an undertaking that could be especially with the world the way it is it’s certainly a high bar for atonement but I believe in him. I feel so bad for Einar being so devoid of hope at this point but I love how his comments trigger Thorfinn to remember the woman from so long ago Hordaland I believe her name was & the dream of Vinland he had long forgotten. It’s a crazy/fortuitous coincidence that you were editing the episode with that girl before watching this episode that’s awesome. The swelling of the music as light enters his eyes & he talks about this place just moves me a lot. I love this idea of a place for the outcasts especially coming from 2 slaves who were downtrodden because of their society. It is crazy to think about how much of an endeavor gathering many outcasts together & transporting them to Vinland would be during this era especially in terms of finances. It may seem like an impossible dream but I agree that if anyone can do it it’s them. What a crazy cliffhanger to end the episode on the guests searching & the two of them realizing that Gardar has escaped & Arnheid might be in trouble. I love the way you talked about how great changes all started with a small amount of people so why shouldn’t we believe in this dream of a nation without war or slavery especially when we have seen how much resolve & determination Thorfinn & Einar have. . Just like you I wholeheartedly believe in them. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

I couldn't agree more about how well the sound and whatnot are all done here! I feel kinda bad for the wife, but yeah, it makes sense she'd have kind of an agenda here too. And also, that's so true that she does seem to have the same focus on wealth. Maybe that's why they're together - it seems that Ketil doesn't really have the feelings for her that he had for his first love, but it would make sense for them to at least have some common goal. Snake is so layered, like you can tell he does have feelings about what's going on here even if he has a job to do. I felt bad for the one guard guy lol! Gardar's reaction to her voice :( Watching the two of them talk with each other and really feel the weight of everything that's happened is just so tragic and well done! And so true that Thorfinn and Gardar are having similar realizations about where violence got them. Gardar really does have some crazy sharp instincts. Arnheid's conflict over this was so well done too. I did feel bad for that guy! LOL that one guest nailed it didn't he? I do get where Snake is coming from, he experienced a great loss too, considering how he feels about his crew. Honestly the quiet moments are so good, just seeing Thorfinn and Einar really ponder some of these deeper topics is everything. It's so true that we still don't have answers to all these questions. Peace definitely decreases the other problems dramatically but even in today's world we still don't have it all figured out. But it's so important for people to keep asking questions like Thorfinn is doing here. Total pacifism isn't really the best either, so it's tricky. I felt so bad for Einar, but at least Thorfinn did remember that girl because of their discussion! Isn't that crazy that I had JUST edited that one!!! Like it couldn't have worked out better!!! I love the idea of them going to found Vinland. I'm so glad you enjoyed my discussion! What a cliffhanger huh. Yes!!! We know they can do it!!!! XD Thank you so much for your feedback and for all the support!!! ^_^
