Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to episode 5 of Frieren!  WOW you guys, so much going on in this one!  First we have the ghosts-imitating-people-we-love, which honestly you probably could have made a whole episode out of just by itself haha!  And then there's the newest addition to our crew, Stark!!!  I've gotta say, the sheer coincidence of it all is hilarious, yet I was still wondering after this ep if there wasn't more to the story.  Guess we'll save that for the next ep!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Ooh they got me, they got me 😆 I’m sure he’s better than he’s giving himself credit for but it is terrifying regardless.

Good news, finally got power back - still using cell data but at least the lights and heat and water are finally on! Moving forward with this episode - the intro will sometimes be a cold open and sometimes will not, and the title might show up beginning, middle or end. Recall I told you the first four episodes were a Premeire pack, so that’s probably why they’re all like that. You were talking specifically about Himmel and Frieren’s relationship development - on his end, it was treated normally like any of us would - however, according to Frieren, it used to be Flamme that showed up as a phantom so she’s a bit amused that her feelings have changed. The analysis here is as Frieren proceeds, she begins to understand a lot more about their friendship and the value it had. As Eisen said, “that one one hundredth of your life changed you.” Frieren is a good mage but she’s also very… nonschalant? The way she treats Fern at the start of the episode is a little bit underhanded. “Hey, shoot that dragon!” “Huh… it didn’t work.” “We should probably run.” “Mages don’t play tag with dragons.” And she kind of fills in the gaps for Fern AFTER the fact, and she’s flying for her life. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good - and it’s the way Stark ended up in his position… it also turns out he is in fact, a bit of a coward, but so was Eisen. Fern in particular is NOT impressed - but Frieren is quick to point out that she wasn’t a finished product when the mage found her either. Also I should point out, Frieren is quite often found near food. Just a fun little detail. Fern goes back and realizes that Stark is indeed powerful, as his training cracked the fissure in the canyon wall. He’s just scared. The best way to sum this up is that Fern is looking down on him for feeling that way, but I’m reminded of a quote in GoT where a character was about to go to war and someone asked if he was scared. He replied yes, and his friend said “Good. That means you’re not an idiot.” Sometimes the biggest obstacles to overcome are the internal ones.

Yay!!! I really hope things get back to normal soon, so glad that at least power is back on for you! Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up about the opening. I couldn't agree more about that one-one-hundredth having an effect on her - as evidenced by the fact that the phantom changed to Himmel! LOL yeah sometimes Frieren can be a little dense about situations like that - probably would have been a good idea to give her some info ahead of time! It's interesting that we should have a character who's similar to Eisen ending up in our crew, isn't it. That's a good point that Fern has grown so much, we owe Stark the same chance. LOL that GoT quote TOTALLY applies here! Like in a way it's good to be aware/possibly maybe less reckless because of that awareness. And he's showing up, despite the fear, so there's that too. Can't wait to see where it's all going!
