Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2, episode 3 of Vinland Saga!  Oh man, just who the heck do these guys think they are, going after Einar and Thorfinn that way?!  You can just see how done with life Thorfinn is, he doesn't even flinch...!!!  The person who comes in and breaks it up seems like they are NOT to be messed with though, dang!!!  We also got a cute little romantic scene here, omg Einar in love is the CUTEST thing ever, I'm dying!!!!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I love this episode. I think your thoughts at the start of the video were great. You talking about Einar reminds me of the “I have known blank for 5 minutes & if anything happened to blank I would kill everyone in this room and then myself” meme which is wholesome but makes me laugh a little. The 1st scene is great for understanding more about Olmar’s character. I personally think there’s something really relatable about him having all the expectations for him like being the next leader of the farm or people trying to use him for different reasons. It’s interesting that he feels like no one understands him as well as feeling like he doesn’t have an identity apart from his father which I think many teenagers have felt. There is something super dark about the idea that killing someone makes you a man but during this era I think in many not all but many cultures killing someone would make people think of you as a man. Yeah you are on the mark with the bad ideas people come up with when drunk LOL. It’s really sad to see Thorfinn just waking up screaming from nightmares which we could definitely guess are from all the horrors he experienced in his life especially during his time on the battlefield the voice acting for those screams is incredible. I do enjoy the falling in love aspect of what’s going on with how Einar feels about Arnheid (beautiful name by the way) who we got to learn more about. I think it is understandable to think she was Ketil’s daughter when we 1st see her last episode because it was a small moment but I did think of the possibility that she was a slave in the time between episodes since I watched this season live. She seems to be a very genuinely nice person & her and Einar’s interactions are wholesome seeing his cute love. To me Thorfinn not remembering his dreams feels like a coping mechanism due to all the traumatizing events in his life. When I was first watching this my thoughts of what he was forgetting went to maybe he was forgetting the lessons his father tried to teach him before his untimely death but I wasn’t sure. I like how he sensed the guests long before the other two did it’s really cool. When she mentioned the attendant thing my mind did jump to the darker sexual nature because of the time period as well as some knowledge of slavery in the US. It’s interesting to learn about the role of these guests some more. It’s sad to see the scene go from Einar being happy about the compliment from Arnheid to learning about what the guests are up to here. It really shows how little care they have for slaves when killing them is treated as nothing. I love Olmar showing fear here because I agree with you being scared to kill/of death does not make someone a coward but in that era especially in Danish/Viking culture it probably was viewed that way. I like that at this point Einar cares enough about Thorfinn to try to help him. Also the animation of Olmar and Einar’s expressions of exertion as they are struggling against each other is really good. It’s sad to see him want to take Einar’s place and I think Thorfinn because Einar has much more drive than himself that his own death would be better than Einar dying. Even though I don’t agree with the guest about life & death I think it’s an interesting perspective to have/see in a story/setting like this. It’s heartbreaking to hear the way Thorfinn talks about his life especially outright saying/implying that he doesn’t fear death because life hasn’t meant anything good for himself. And while we know that isn’t true because of how long he was on the battlefield just surviving for revenge it might as well be & it would not surprise me if he can’t remember the good things in his life or if those memories are so foggy they almost don’t feel real. And the dark background just adds to the depressing feeling. It is impressive that Thorfinn can handle the pain he is put through but it hurts because it truly shows how much pain he’s been through in his life. I honestly love how we are introduced to Snake through his mundane life of waking up/heading to work it increases the impact of what he does in this episode. It’s crazy to see Thorfinn get a permanent injury with the ear thing & it made me cringe for sure. Thank goodness Snake showed up when things were escalating because it was getting bad. I like that when they call him boss the Japanese word is one that can have the meaning of brother. The punch he delivers to Fox is extremely satisfying, impactful & brutal with the animation. I agree Snake has a big presence/aura to him & I love how that is emphasized by how scared the guests are of him and I love his voice. I found your thoughts on him to be interesting. While they were probably making fun of Olmar I think there is so little to do they are probably trying to find anything to do even if it ended up being really messed up. This season does have a very different feel than the 1st but I agree it’s super interesting & I don’t like that some people were not liking it because of the lack of action because it is incredible. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3
