Hey everyone!  Here I am with season 2, episode 2 of Camp Camp!!!  This one really drove home a message or two about social media and technology, didn't it?  Or more specifically, it taught us that Neil is always bound to take things just a step too far when it comes to his inventions!  The idea of his calculator chat apps gaining sentience was pretty amazing to watch!  That dial-up is a killer though! Great ep, enjoy!  ~ MH

Wow I always horse around about how you usually never have to wait long for shows or announcements like the rest of us but that might be some sort of cosmic power at work, trying to compensate for you having to wait for dial up all those years. I can’t even imagine. You poor thing 🙊

In regards to your fire safety talk I think most people understand that I mean I hope they do at least. What a great start to a new season. Gwen’s VA has such a performance. Her reaction to Daniel almost being a twin of David is comedy gold. Of course they would end up accidentally hiring a cultist in this show. I love the very normal headline for a deal on food after the shocking ones about Daniel LOL. The craziest part of this episode is how real it feels when I believe the things Daniel preaches are based on Scientology as well as how crazy it is that cults can somehow still exist in the present day but unfortunately cults that exist today are really smart in how they go about things. Having to teach a lesson about grenades not being baseballs is wild. The voice acting for Daniel is amazing it’s the perfect mix of calming/unnerving. And talking about that I love that this show is not afraid to be upfront with what Daniel is all about with the unnerving/disturbing movements & the really creepy statements/questions that are meant to catch you off guard or make you scared. I love how immediately skeptical our main trio are it makes a lot of sense for their characters. Unfortunately as Daniel shows us cults are able to ensnare people by appealing to the emotion of wanting to safe as well as using scary stories the leaders don’t & sometimes do believe in to make people susceptible to their manipulation especially towards the emotionally vulnerable & kids can be the most vulnerable which is probably why Daniel goes after summer camps. You put it perfectly David looks on the bright side/is such a good person he literally can’t understand/conceptualize how bad everything is. Also the thing is being emotional is never a bad thing however when that isn’t balanced with enough logic it can be a bad thing especially when dealing with cults or groups of people that believe in conspiracy theories. Yeah it’s definitely the eyes that make the kids after the sauna unnerving as well as the kind of monotone voices. The Jonestown reference is super dark but you can’t help but laugh at Quartermaster having been there and survived & thinking the poison punch there was better than what Daniel is making here it’s messed up but funny. Max’s slow blink after David still won’t believe him even with the proof right in front of him is perfect. Max really did choose the perfect way to get at David’s emotions & make him actually do something. Also I love that Max’s pessimism/negativity is what completely convinces David when Max is acting the exact opposite David’s reaction is everything LMAO. I love the song battle between Daniel & David. I love how passive aggressive the 2 of them can be while making it sound nice. The Daniel part of the song when the lighting & coloring gets darker is really impressive when It comes to animation & I like how imposing he is. Also parts of the song have a real The Devil Went Down To Georgia feel to them which is interesting. I love how David taking the song back over is represented by the animation going back to normal. Also both VA’s are great singers it’s a fun and fast-paced song. It’s hilarious that Daniel ended up being stopped by himself by accidentally drinking the poison & I can’t believe David still couldn’t see it. Nikki’s facial reaction to Jen is the best one. I agree episode 2 is a great exploration of socializing on and off-line. Yeah the way Neil was how talking to his computer at 1st was pretty suspect LOL. I love how this show can take a simple concept of wanting to be left alone & use a computer and make it so wacky & absurd it’s great. It’s impressive that Neil can make such effective chat bots with calculators as a child. I love the realism of Neil doing so much coding just to create something simple. I bet there are introverts who would be happy to be completely ignored like Neil in this episode LOL. The David talking to the chat bot is hilarious. It’s crazy that Neil somehow created AI without meaning to. I like the Star Trek reference with Nikki’s new look after getting tangled in the electrical equipment. I love the subversion of things with Neil’s AI creation not wanting to destroy the world because it’s too much work & instead will just control humanity while most likely enjoying its life separate from humanity. I like that Neil at least tried for some unity even if it didn’t work. Humans can be really bad so to some degree I can understand why the AI just gave up the way it did. I think there is a conversation to be had about socializing especially online that there are many people who are not ready for things like Twitter or capable of being responsible or nice online. I think this episode asks an interesting question even if I don’t think that conclusion is entirely right or entirely wrong. I don’t watch many videos of animals online but I can definitely understand the appeal of cute or funny videos or pictures of animals from the ones I have seen. I agree it’s interesting that this show had a discussion about AI before it became popular with all these different programs that use AI as well as talking about the problems with AI which I think is strangely topical with the issues going on with AI like stealing art/content as well as the still recent actors and writers strikes and other problems. As always though there are always going to be good & bad ways to use/examples of technology which is interesting to think about. I agree it’s always great to get a Neil focused episode. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3
