Hey everyone!  I'm back with Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 20!  OMG!!  You guys, after being beaten down so cruelly these last few weeks, I'm almost afraid to say it but....could there be some hope?!  I guess we'll see what happens with Nobara!  Meanwhile, YESSSSS best brother EVER to the rescue!!!  And we also get a final goodbye with Mechamaru :(  Mahito keeps pushing himself the way Yuji and Todo are pushing.....this could go a lot of ways, but I'm hoping for the best!  Can't wait to see what happens next!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Leonie2003

hey Melissa:), this week, jjk delivered another phenomenal episode. I felt all the emotions there again. I wanted to jump into my screen and give Yuji a big hug and assure him that he did nothing wrong. first of all, he's still a little boy and has to endured so much suffering, in some aspects he reminds me a lot of Thorfinn now. I also let out a little scream where I saw Todo for the first time. Based on the opening, I expected that he would show up at some point and support Yuji in the fight against Mahito, but I didn't think I would be so happy to see him. We've experienced so much suffering in the last few episodes that I really needed this little ray of hope. If anyone would be able to get Yuji out of the eternal depression he had just entered, it would be Todo, and damn did he come at the perfect time along with his convenient healing teammate, not that I’m complaining tho because this led to quite the wild fight and it just keeps going, I’m starting to wonder if Mahito can die lol, one thing is certain tho and that’s that his voice actor and the animators have done him absolute justice. I think Mahito is still one of my favorite characters. And we also had the idea that Nobara could possibly be not dead, and honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if she did survive but at the same time I could see her not coming back as well, we’ll just have to wait and see. That scene between Mechamaru and Miwa on the train was also really good, I’ve really been wanting more Miwa content too so it was nice for that reason too, just a sad situation this time lol. And I can’t help but feel it would have been more impactful had we seen more of Miwa and Mechamaru together before this but we didn’t really see much of it so it didn’t hit very hard for me, but maybe some greatness will come from this, and Mechamaru’s classmates may be pissed but I’m pretty sure he saved their lifes lol. another important piece of information i found out on instagram is that Thursday was our beloved Gojo's birthday. he turned 34 and i have to admit he looks pretty good for it. i think this guy will never look older than 30. he must have some kind of powers that made him forever young😂 Finally, I would like to link you to a video. It's from a Youtuber who does very good crossovers with anime. This video is a crossover from Jojo jjk oshi no ko and kaguya-sama. He started a small video series called Giorno sama: Love is bizarre. This video fits the episode perfectly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQPR2Vt2lrw

Hey Leonie!!! Awww I hear you, this one was so emotional!!! Poor Yuji!!! I can totally see the Thorfinn vibes here! Right, I wasn't expecting Todo in a million years!!!! It was so nice to bring him in after all the suffering of the last few eps. So well said, Todo is the perfect person to help Yuji right now. I'm gonna scream if Mahito can't be killed lol but I guess if we could somehow defeat/seal him or something, I'd settle for that. His VA was killing it this ep! He is an awfully interesting character even if I do hate him haha. It's hard to say about Nobara! At least there's hope! It was nice to see Miwa, too bad it was under these circumstances! Mechamaru totally just saved them all, even if they're mad about it! Yeah it's a shame we didn't have more of Mechamaru/Miwa beforehand to make that scene even more impactful. Ooohhhh it was Gojo's birthday?!?!! Squeeeee!!! I feel like I need to track all these hotties' birthdays so we can celebrate properly LOL!!! He does look really good right?! I could totally see his powers making him forever late 20s or 30-looking!!!! OMG THE VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was amazing hahahah!!! What an epic mashup, and WOW, like that was seamless!!!!! I'd totally believe that was the original cut if I didn't know!!! Giorno's face when they're talking about types just made me laugh so hard hahaha!!! I could see Giorno falling for someone like Kaguya! That was amazing!!! Have you seen the ones where Jotaro is the star of Demon Slayer?! Someone told me there's like whole episodes of it!!!! People are so darn talented!!!

This episode is incredible & might be the best episode of the arc. I agree with another comment that the voice acting, animation & music were all so well done even the really dark stuff at the start of the episode is great especially from a presentation standpoint. I forgot to say this in my comment on the last episode but originally in season one when we got a little of Nobara’s backstory there was imagery of a doll when talking about why she left her small town and I haven’t checked yet but if I go back to that imagery & the doll is missing an eye I’m going to lose my mind. Also seeing how happy you were at the start of both episode 18 and 19 my heart sank because I knew they were going to be rough. I love how the show accurately depicts the emotions and trauma Yuji is experiencing after what just happened just piled on top of everything else that has already happened to him. The hyperventilating bordering on panic attack is so well acted which is already impressive but then you add the great animation of his facial expressions especially the eye movements and it becomes that much more amazing. Also giving us a cute/funny flashback showing the friendship of the main trio & letting us see Gojo for the 1st time in ages was mean. Especially the hard cut to her seemingly dead & mutilated body but I appreciate the color being much more muted as a way to represent how dark this is. Also having a POV shot from her wound was designed to hurt the audience. And of course Yuji is not being given any time to process/grieve by Mahito. He and the author are doing everything they can to break Yuji & it’s working because this is the moment when we see Yuji break & I think attention should be brought to his mental/emotional strength because I think we can all agree that many people would have broken much sooner with all the traumatizing things he has been going through. I think it’s really interesting to see Mahito fully embracing his existence as a curse & all the evil that goes along with that especially as a way to write a villain & I think embracing that enables him to get to the level of using a black flash. And man the absolute brutal verbal & physical beat down he delivers to Yuji is hard to watch and that feeling is just increased because of Yuji not reacting. I think it’s important that a character is talking about this fight between humans/sorcerers and curses as the war it really is between 2 different species because war is not pretty & all the suffering and losses on both sides shows that really well. It’s always interesting for characters to talk about and the audience to think about the different perspectives characters can have when it comes to what they view as justice as well as have different ideas of right and wrong & I think that fits very well into the story and universe the author has established. I think it makes sense for Mahito to believe & talk about how he and Yuji being the same when a lot of this arc seems to be focused on deconstructing aspects of the shounen protagonist as well as Yuji’s morality/ideals at least from the author & it really feels like Mahito is trying to do that as well. And while there are similarities/comparisons between the 2 of them like how hard they fight for what they believe in and constantly getting/wanting to be stronger but I think it’s less then being the same and more that within the story they are mirrors of each other which is interesting in itself. Also talking about instincts versus reason is interesting. We really need to appreciate Mahito's voice actor for their performance of being unhinged/deranged the way the character was almost shrieking was so good. I love Todo’s entrance into the episode & someone I watch compared his theme playing here to professional wrestling entrances with the music that different wrestlers have for their entrances. And the way he talks philosophically about the impermanence of things but that they are the exception connects well with what has been going on in this arc. I have no idea how I noticed it because it was so subtle but the opening actually changes near the end where instead of a shockwave being shown coming off of Shibuya there is just complete blackness/darkness overtaking the city representing all the destruction & instead of a shot of all the sorcerers involved in this incident surrounded by buildings it changes to no one being there and just destroyed Dan buildings instead. I love how Todo is most serious we have ever seen him reflecting the dire nature of the situation and later also reflects what I think is his anger at what has been done to his brother. It sucks that Gojo has already been taken away by the parasite in Geto & it makes me really worried about what happened to Mei Mei since the last we saw of her she was preparing to fight Geto & if he’s gone it makes me scared that she and her brother might be dead. It’s so sad to see how devastated & lost Yuji is in the moments when he is 1st talking to Todo about not being able to continue the fight and losing faith in his convictions. It may not be completely fair but in this moment he has failed to live up to his ideals/conviction in his head, the fact that he feels he has to save more people than Sukuna killed is upsetting and I agree with the type of person Yuji is of course he would take on the deaths caused through him/around him onto his shoulders. Also the sorrow Yuji’s VA is able to express through his performance is amazing. I love the sentiment from Todo that as long as there is someone to carry on another persons will/ideals that no one is truly gone. I honestly think Todo was the only person who could have gotten through to/helped Yuji in this situation & inspire him in a way that allowed him to continue fighting as well as let the show continue to have that shonen. Also talking about sorcerers not having to worry about right and wrong the same as most people because they are something separate from society in general is interesting because it’s been talked about/shown by the story multiple times & I feel like it’s been more negative in the past & this feels much more positive to me. I like the idea that sorcerers must keep moving forward without always knowing what the best decision was/having to make their own judgments on what is right and wrong for them as people. It’s interesting to see Todo fighting so seriously because in the past fights with him I think even though he always gives it his all I feel like he was able to be less serious because the situation was less serious. Once again I am impressed by how creative the author is with how Mahito uses his abilities turning into barbed wire is crazy. The animation is incredible all around but I love how the animation while Todo is fighting alone shows how skilled he is at fighting seeing his strength, reflexes and mastery of his technique. I like how Nitta (who is the assistant supervisor Nitta’s younger brother which is a cool detail) is giving Yuji hope by gently telling him that there is a chance for Nobara to live although we still have to be realistic however from a more meta standpoint I don't think the author would be talking about the character surviving/introducing this ability if Nobara wasn't going to survive although this show does things differently sometimes but I think it will not be bad writing with either direction it could go. Also man Nitta’s technique is really useful especially during a fight. Someone I watch had the theory that this technique basically puts the body into stasis to give him more time to get whoever is hurt to their healer Shoko or a hospital and if that’s correct I think it would increase the likelihood of Nobara surviving. There is something beautiful about Yuji thinking about Nanami as he was perfectly healthy as he is getting back into the fight & the art/animation of his mentor is amazing. I like how Yuji is taking on his mentor’s suffering & carrying his life within him to make himself stronger. I love how as soon as Yuji & Todo are fighting together again they are right back to the incredible in sync: teamwork and it is a sight to behold. I love how they are going down levels of the subway because it is a great way to use a location in a fight. And this is where the animation starts to get crazy with Mahito pulling off all sorts of moves against Yuji and Todo doing everything they can do against him to the point where it gets somewhat hard to see what’s going on but I was able to understand it well. Also listen it may have disturbing/fucked up but man the transfigured train is darkly creative. The way Todo imbues cursed energy into inanimate objects like rubble to switch with them is so simple but ingenious. I love seeing how easily Todo is able to attack & adapt to Mahito’s crazy movements/transformations/attacks it’s awesome. Before I forget to say it I love the entire scene between Miwa & Mechamaru it’s such well-written sadness and tragedy. I love how this establishes even more how much he cared about his friends with him doing everything he could to keep out of this war. And I heard that apparently the author Gege has said that they are not good at romance but even though this is tragic I think it’s a great scene between 2 romantically coded characters. I don’t completely agree but I get what he means when he says he was weak for not relying on his friends or doing things differently but I think most people can understand why he so desperately wanted his body healed. It’s such a sad goodbye but I do hope like you that Muta & Miwa were able to see each other in those last seconds before he was gone and that one day Miwa will be able to find happiness for herself even if it takes a long time. Also while her wailing is rough to listen to god damn it’s a great performance. I can understand the opinion that characters having limited screen time makes big moments for those characters less impactful but I don’t think that’s always the case & for these 2 it’s super impactful regardless of screen time in my opinion but I do think the other opinion is valid. I hope that in the future of the story the students from the Kyoto will get more development after seeing this moment of them giving Miwa the space to say goodbye and grieve for the loss because even though I think though they are good characters I would just like more development you know? I love the entire scene of Todo becoming like a meteor by switching with the rock Yuji throws not only because it’s smart but the animation is amazing 1 of my favorite parts of the episode. His Idol appearing in his mind when he does the Black Flash is fantastic. I agree with the opinion I have seen around that the animation here is reminiscent of the animation when All Might was taking his final stand against AFO in MHA season 3 & I follow someone who makes remixes/instrumental covers of anime songs and they made a remix that combined the music playing here with an MHA song it’s great. I love the image of Yuji giving him a thumbs up as well. I love how much hype the narrator creates when they talk about Mahito, Todo and Yuji being at 120% of their potential because of being in the zone after using black flash & the image of all 3 of them which must be a direct manga panel is awesome. I like how the fight has been so nonstop since it started with amazing action that they ended up playing just the song instead of the entire ending while the action is still going and I think it ended up being really fitting for the cliffhanger here with Mahito going even crazier creating the Hydra looking thing. And I love it because characters pushing themselves and each other to & beyond their limits is extremely shonen in general. The animation of Mahito’s facial expressions at the end are horrifying but great I really love how dark and bold/thick the art is & the VA was going wild. I like how in the end thing Todo talks about the hero arriving late trope but also shows the people who held out so long are also heroes. I can totally understand the excitement about Todo turning quickly into fear with how the season has been going but I think you are right that it’s best to have hope right now. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

After the last two episodes, this one certainly felt like things were starting to turn around! I could definitely see why you'd think this is the best episode of the arc!
