Hey everyone!  Here I am with the second ep of Oshi no Ko!!!!  We're getting all re-established with our crew, and wow, there's a lot going on!  Ruby is really set on being an idol, and it seems like fate is set on her being one too, despite Aqua's best efforts!  By the way, Aqua has really leaned into the cold, logical side of himself....yet there's still so much warmth there when it comes to things like protecting his sister.  I'm so glad Ruby ended up signing with Strawberry, at least she'll be with family!  And meanwhile, our kiddos are just about to start high school.  Can't wait to see what happens next!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

It's funny that Aqua could definitely go back to medical school and get re-credentialed if he wanted to....but he's motivated by pure revenge at this stage. He's also forgotten what the Director told him when he was a child actor....he has an intuitive sense of what the Director wants, is able to "see" the Director's vision and deliver the performance desired, beyond what's on the written page of the script & stage direction. It's fine to learn more about the technical aspects of film production and editing like he has been, but Aqua is in denial about his raw talents as an actor. Ruby is her mother's daughter, 100%. She has a destiny and she won't be denied. Managing her in-house is the best compromise to keep her safe. Aqua cares enough about Ruby that he doesn't want to see her follow her mother's footsteps all THAT closely, especially the stalker-murder route. But if you think about it, Ruby has so many more advantages that Ai never had, starting with a loving family and two great moms to support her. Ruby's so much better adjusted than Ai was at her age. Ai would be so happy to see her daughter in such a better place at her age, the dream of any parent, wanting their kid to do better in life than they did themselves. For sure Ruby has her own insecurities and yeah, maybe she doesn't have the natural singing ability that Ai possessed, but that can be learned...it's a skill that can be trained up. Kana definitely seems happy to see Aqua again...but is shocked to hear he's in General Education and NOT the Performing Arts section of their school! (In English, Kana is voiced by Natalie Rial, Monica Rial's little sister....bit of a family dynasty there as well!)

Looks at the runtime: yeah, I think we got our claws into her, everyone. 😁 Ruby’s idol application highlights just how much of a strict screening process has to be done in order to even break into the idol industry - it’s something that can also be said about the American entertainment industry. There are a lot of similarities in the hurdles you have to cross, and not all of them are fair. It’s mentioned that one of Ruby’s shortcomings as an applicant is her singing ability, but her appearance and dance technique - which she no doubt had some help from Ai to master - are more than enough to catch someone’s attention. No one knows that Ruby is reincarnated, but it’s also been deliberately hid that the kids are children of Ai - not only would that silly their mother’s reputation if it were to come to light, but it would draw unwanted attention on them. What Aqua is telling Ruby is true - while dreaming of the idol industry is fine and dandy, it’s best to not have illusions about what it is - and they have firsthand experience with that. Ruby, on the other hand, has adopted a “seize today like it’s your last” mantra, because her previous life was all spent in the hospital. She would rather spend her time trying and failing than doing nothing. It seems Ichigo became a recluse and went into a form of self despair after losing his star, so Miyako has taken over Strawberry Productions as well as raising the two kids. She’s had quite the character arc since we first met her. Meanwhile, B Komachi broke up with the loss of Ai. The prospect of catching lightning in a bottle a second time for the small company is slim. Aqua is keeping Ruby out of the idol business for several reasons, even though it is her dream: one is, he knows how much of a cesspool the place is and wants to protect her from it. Two, it could be said that Ruby is the only remnant of Ai he has left in his life and the idea of seeing that corrupted by the politics of the industry would be too much for him to take. The Director, Taishi, does point out, he’s a good enough actor to fool his sister over the phone, however. I guess getting scouted is a common occurrence in Zealand, I don’t know all the details, but it’s like opening an email. Some things you get sent are legit, and some are just scammers trying to take advantage of you. It should also be noted, Miyako knows what Aqua is doing and is not stopping his attempts to keep Ruby from the business. She has the same concerns he does. Speaking of acting, Aqua is posing as a scout just to get that girl to blab. But even though she says things about her current gig she really shouldn’t, it further highlights just how rough this industry is to turn a decent profit for someone. To enter the performing arts department at the high school, Ruby has to be affiliated with a talent agency, and when it becomes clear she’s not giving up on her dream, both Miyako and Ruby figure the best way to keep things under control is to have Miyako manage her personally. This is probably the solution that gives her the best chance of doing what she wants while letting them have peace of mind. Something I noticed is Ruby’s Star eye is always light, but when Aqua is thinking about his father and his revenge plot, the star in his eye turned dark. I wonder if that was on purpose? But he can actually use his own DNA to track down dear old dad, so he’s got a unique advantage. Either way he is learning a lot from Taishii through editing… and apparently the director notices he’s giving up on his dreams way too early… but in the meantime… MOM WE’RE HAVING A CONVERSATION HERE! While everyone’s talking in the school, Kana shows up - she hasn’t forgotten about Aqua since that film shoot - but she’s surprised he’s not here for the performing arts department. As the end song likes to point out, there’s still a lot of lying going on.

That's true, he's tunnel visioning it right now. That's true, he does have a knack for understanding what the director wants. You're right that he's denying his true talents. Ruby's definitely on the same path as her mom, which is what's so troubling! I'm glad they're at least keeping her close. So true that Ruby really has a lot more than Ai ever did though. Ai would be so happy! Singing can be trained up for sure, after all vocal chords are parts of the body that can be honed like anything else (at least to some degree). No kidding about Kana's English VA!!!! That's so cool!

Hahahaha yup :P That's a good point about all the hurdles in the industry to even get seen. It's so sweet that Ai helped her with dancing!!! Right, no one knows they're Ai's kids, that's probably for the best considering everything. Aqua's totally right in what he's saying to Ruby but yeah, how can you not just wanna go for it after living the past life she lived? Miyako (thanks!!) really stepped up for sure! It's sad that the husband became a recluse. I'm sure it hit him very hard. Aqua's acting skills are pretty legit to fool his sister over the phone, especially since they probably have that twin connection thing going on lol. But yeah, I'd be scared for Ruby too if I were him. The stuff the girl was saying during the interview really does give more insight into how hard it is in the idol industry. Ooohhh good call about Aqua's star turning dark, that's so interesting! He does have a unique advantage with the DNA. Hahaha CMON MOM!!!!!!!! Lol. I'm happy we get Kana back too. Yup, tons of lies!!!! Can't wait for more lol!
