Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to eps 7 - 8 of Red vs. Blue Zero!  The epic finale here ties up some loose ends and opens up some new possibilities!  The resolution between Phase/East/Danyell and her dad West was good, and although I wouldn't say it was a sharp face turn, I'm glad she ended up helping our crew!  Carolina got to show off too, which is always amazing!  The ultimate power is achieved, but of course it turned sour for Zero, because of course it did!  Maybe he and Black Lotus will be back???  Who knows!!  Overall I think there was some great stuff in this season - they tried something new and there was a lot to love in there, even if I do wish it could have been fleshed out a bit more!  Great eps and season!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Before I share my takeaways I should point out you neglected to remember to turn on the captions for Episode 8. Might want to put a sticky note next to your PC to remind you. Also, the OBS could stand to be maybe a tiny bit higher than it currently is this week. So… there’s really not a whole lot to break down here: this batch is really just one long, extended action sequence. I think you already summed it up well: the graphics and animation are superb. The problem is the whole season feels rushed. There’s no time to develop the characters or their relationship, we’re just moving from set piece to set piece. The whole “ultimate power” thing just felt like a McGuffin - so Sero can fight harder? He had a lot of self righteous dialogue but we never expanded on his point of view. The dynamic between Phase/East and West was interesting but they spend so much time being angry about “what happened” that it felt like the resolution didn’t occur naturally. Shatter Squad was a nice idea but I just never felt invested in them as characters. I mean, think about how RWBY works. The action is that much more tense because the characters are ones you’re invested in: you feel what they feel. That being said, I’m pretty sure the “throwing the monster at your enemy” move is in fact a RWBY reference. Unfortunately, RT got pretty ugly after this season: the fans were SO disappointed and disgusted in it that they began to harass the creators on Twitter about everything. Some of his co workers had to come out and publicly defend him. It wasn’t a pretty sight: I think where they erred is they called it Red vs Blue; it would’ve been much more accepted if it didn’t take the name of the original series. It got so bad, that later on RT had to denounce the entire storyline as non-canonical. I still wanted you to see it for reasons that will be revealed later. As for the OST I do t mind if you do it if someone has the info, what I WILL tell you is next season’s going to be a parody in a sitcom style. Wrap your brain around that. And just reiterating, yes, you should do the trailer for Restoration in the same batch after you give your thoughts on the season. We’re at the current finish line. Next week you’ll understand. 😎

Yeah I have to agree there were probably some time constraints but I liked it. I really did. I just think this episode showed the rush the most. The first few episodes we got time to get to know the personalities but trying to meet the conclusion with such a heavy story, would prove difficult to do. They probably will not continue but I also wouldn’t say no if they were able to give more time to get to know the group. I think even the not-so-fond watchers continued to watch for a reason. I think they saw the potential yet the end is what had them thinking RVB is the superior show indefinitely. No argument there but same time this show was it’s own thing, and it was a cool change. I don’t think it should live in the originals shadow forever. But I enjoyed it regardless. It had amazing quality to it in many areas for sure. I’d watch it again!

Yeah the time constraints are probably the biggest issue, but there's a lot to love for sure! I wouldn't say no to more of this group either! For sure, the original RvB is superior, but it's cool that they tried to do their own thing here! I'm so glad you enjoyed it overall! That's how I felt too - it wasn't the best but had so many great things going for it!

Ohhh oops, sorry about the captions! I'll see what I can do with OBS, last week it was alright, so I'll have to keep tweaking it! I'm glad you agree that the action was awesome! And yeah, the other stuff could have benefitted from more time. A lot of the ultimate power stuff and Zero stuff felt a bit hollow. It's really tough with the other characters cause like you said, we just didn't have time to get really invested. Hahah good call about the RWBY reference! And that's the thing, RWBY stands apart because of how much we love everyone individually and as a group. The character development is a big part of it. That's too bad that things got ugly, that's not cool! Good point that they might have been better off just making this its own thing. No kidding that it's no longer canon, wow! A parody?! Wow!!! Ok cool, thanks for the heads up about the trailer! Ahhh it's bittersweet to be here at the finish line!!! Can't wait for next week!

Visually and music wise, I think this was one of the best. The choreography was great pretty much every time. The characters were as good as they could be with only 8 episodes, which I’m guessing is cause they didn’t want to dedicate so many episodes into the what would’ve been the first season of a big gamble. Voice acting was pretty good especially Zero, though I wasn’t crazy about West’s, it was just kinda gruff with no emoting. But overall this was okay, not nearly as bad as I’d seen it made out to be, but also nothing super crazy.

Yes, there was so much working great in this! I get it about the number of episodes. I agree, it wasn't an abomination or anything lol, and there was a lot to love!
