Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to episode 3 of Kamen Rider Gotchard!  Oh wow, so we get to officially meet some new characters in this one, including a new....frenemy??  Seems like we're doing the "I'm-a-tough-guy-who's-going-to-be-won-over-by-the-protagonist" thing with him, I guess we'll see where it goes!  Cool form though, and gotta hand it to him for helping beat up the creeper who was after Rinne!  We also got a mushroom Chemy in this one, which was fun, and we got to see just how determined Hotaro is to understanding, respecting, and befriending Chemies!  Can't wait for more, this is fun so far!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Valvarad's design and motifs remind me of Mashin Chaser, actually...maybe he'll become an actual Rider later.

So I should ask since I’m pretty new to the overall franchise - I only started checking it out outta curiosity since you reacted to it - is it a pretty common trope to have the protagonist deal with a gruff and no nonsense sidekick with little humor? I can think of a couple other series I’ve seen on that trope on this channel… Subimaru (I think that’s his name) apparently talks so soft he has to use an iPad to project his feelings to other people. You’re half right and half wrong on the main female character, which got me to think: In present day her name has been designated as Fudoh Kuga, but in her flashbacks, her father refers to the girl as Rinne. So what’s the scoop there, did she change her name - is this a we’re making you assume ploy - or is there more to it? Spanner seems to think Hotaro doesn’t deserve to be a Kamen Rider because of what he’s seen so far… but he missed the resolve part of the application. It’s like growing a plant, it’s not gonna be awesome right away, it needs time to develop. Speaking of Spanner, he seems to be really hung up on the concept of virtue - and twice he used the line “what a ridiculous joke” when something disgusted him. Speaking of disgusting… you have to hand it to the Japanese when it comes to creepy ideas. “Hey?” “Yeah?” “How about putting a creepy stalker Malgam in?” “Sure. How creepy?” “Let’s say he’s motivated by “pure love,” and he has the ability to sink out of sight, he’s part shark and part submarine.” (Part shark - now I’m thinking of a RvB joke!) “Yeah, but let’s add a periscope to the submarine just so he can look at his target from far away when she’s unaware.” WHO COMES UP WITH THUS STUFF? Im pretty sure the Zero One references are strong with this one… he’s already got Hopper as a friend and… oh my gosh… THEY SAID THE T WORD. Is that the new swear word for this series? Look, if a guy shows up wearing all white and is a completely pompous jerk, I’m leaving. 😂

Hotaro has that Gotta catch ‘em all spirit! I think this new guy and him will be like Ash Ketchum and his rival, Gary. That’s what it’s reminding me of. Sweet ep! Now Vice had sweet designs that were top tier but this was illumines. A pique design 🔥 Hotaro is very sweet. Sucks when your passion takes on reality, and reality knocks you down. Really respect his efforts and apparently so does bushido. Small victories lead to big things! I’m loving him so far. And if this new guy beats this creep I’ll cheer them both on. ✌️

He really does!! He'll be a Chemy Master for sure lol :D This is totally giving Ash and Gary vibes, isn't it? Yeah I agree about the design, it was top notch!!! That's so true, Hotaro had to learn a hard lesson here but he did a great job with making the most of it. Me too, omg I'd love it if they both take down the creep! Hotaro is super lovable for sure!!!!

Oh nice, I'm happy you started checking it out because of my channel! It is actually a pretty big trope on this series to have a side/companion character who's no nonsense and/or antagonistic somewhat to the protagonist at first. It's definitely part of the formula but it works when they do it well! Oh thanks for his name!! I couldn't tell if he was talking softly or had a hard time talking, but either way he's using the iPad to communicate for sure! Ohhhhhh so her name in current time isn't Rinne, good call!!! Thanks for pointing that out. Interesting, she must have changed her name then? Yeah, I think Hotaro's being judged a bit too early on in his journey for sure. He has stuff to learn but all the raw material is def there! OMG seriously, who on earth does come up with this stuff lol!!! Love the RvB reference too haha. Yeah I'm getting Zero One vibes for sure, as soon as that said THAT word especially haha. I wouldn't blame you for being 1000% out if a character like that shows up :P
