Hey everyone!  I'm back with Ahsoka season 1, episode 3!  Wow you guys, lots going on here!
It was great seeing Sabine and Ahsoka working together a bit more, I think they're gonna learn to value each other's insights and strengths for sure!  Hera's seeing firsthand some of the political mumbo jumbo that's gonna hold up the New Republic just like it did with the old one, yeesh!  Oh yeah, and JACEN!!!!!  AHHHHH!!!  I need the Jacen/Chopper spinoff STAT!!!!  Let's not forget about the Purgil, omg!!!!  That's a really good sign you guys!!  Let's see if we can figure out this hyperspace ring thing before the bad guys do, shall we??  Great ep!!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I love how Sabine isn't just out of practice with the lightsaber but with pretty much all combat related activities. It just makes sense. I love the talk about the force because I have always related it to various eastern spiritual concepts among others. As for being connected to the force, Hera probably has a deeper natural connection than Sabine. She made Vader look like a chump that one time, total chump. Dude was just stuck between two ships twiddling his robot thumbs. The force flows through all living things but it isn't the easiest thing to just redirect a river. And even if you can there are always consequences (could be good or bad).

You know, if this kind of reaction continues, your behavior could very possibly become… cough… Un-BEAR-able 😋 Okay, anyway… “Anger and frustration grant you power, but they also unbalance you.” - if that quote doesn’t sum up the baseline for the entire franchise, I don’t know what will. We’ve all got light force and dark force in us… the key is which one you actually choose to cultivate. The choice is up to the user… but one direction does require a substantially larger amount of discipline than the other. Huyang is kind of giving me Tokito vibes with his personality - he is telling everyone the truth but he’s so blunt about it he comes off a bit abrasive. But he wasn’t just applying it to Sabine. “If you two don’t settle your differences NOW, there won’t BE a later!” I think the main reason Ahsoka and Sabine clash is they’re very similar in their personality types. It’s like when you put two magnets of the same polarity together. Opposites attract and attach. But if they’re the same designation they repel each other. They’re too alike and will have to work through that. The training session with the blast helmet feels like a call back to A New Hope when Obi-Wan was first doing it to Luke. The difference here is that we’re not using a training orb, but Ahsoka was doing things a lot lighter. Also, I think you may have misinterpreted what Sabine was saying - I took her line about expedited training as she was hoping the tenseness of the situation would actually drive her to learn quicker. But everyone learns at their own pace. The senate scene with Hera brings up a quote I think of often: “insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result.” People don’t like change. They get comfortable in their niche. Even if their niche isn’t good for them, perhaps that explains why so many abusive relationships last as long as they do. This is the same concept on a larger scale. I think the reason Xiono (the senator) was at odds with Hera is possibly, according to some of the dialogue, because she’s tried to do things like this before to find her friends. It could be a case where she’s cried wolf in previous missions. It’s important to remember the entire original trilogy went by between the end of Rebels and now. I’m not clear on how much time that was but judging by how old Jacen looks - somewhere between 7-10 years? A lot can happen. If you want a Jacen and Chopper spin-off talk to Dave… err Chopper’s voice actor. Shin (Baylan’s apprentice) called the inquisitor by name, Marrok. Other than that not much is known. You know if Ahsoka didn’t have enough to do, let’s get her to defend a broken down space ship against incoming fighters using only her lightsabers. SURE, WHY NOT? 😅 The purrgils I think weren’t consciously helping, they seemed to just kind of act normal and their behavior happened to create an advantage. The fighter pilots and the ones on the ground at the end were speaking an alien language, which leads to more questions… Like why does your bear only have ONE lightsaber? 🙃

The lightsaber actually lights up! That’s so cutely awesome. Idk I just find that amazing. Okay seeing the purgils blew my mind! I didn’t think they’d bring them into Ahsoka. That sent shivered down my spine. If we can get Zeb up in here, I’d be over the moon I’m so happy! And Jacen and Chopper!!!! I would SO watch the heck out of that. Could you imagine Chopper babysitting your kid? 😭 Okay no, prob not the best bad influence but that would be such a cute sight still! And Chops has his moments. ♥️ I’m loving this series so far and it’s great seeing Ahsoka and Sabine coming together now. I think they were getting along better before the chase but within it they’re teamwork definitely progressed more and naturally too.

kamenriderhime

YAY!!! So glad you like it haha!!! Isn't that awesome? Build a Bear is killing it these days lol, back in my day they just made plain old bears :P Wasn't it amazing to see the purgils?!!?!? Omg, if Zeb shows up I'll mark out hard!!! HAHAHAHA Chopper babysitting is an amazing but absolutely chilling thought!!!! Sooooo cute, I would legit watch the spinoff lol. Chopper would most definitely corrupt a kid in the funnest and cutest way possible lol. So glad you're enjoying it, and I agree about Ahsoka and Sabine!!!!

kamenriderhime

Hahahah you think so? I think people BEAR-ly notice I'm excited in this reactions. :P Yeah that one quote pretty much sums it all up right! So true, we all have good and bad - it's how you use it that counts. I can totally see the attitude similarities between Tokito and Huyang! Very true about Ahsoka and Sabine - they have a bit too much in common at the end of the day. Perhaps not unlike the way that Anakin and Ahsoka were so similar in the beginning. I was getting total New Hope vibes as well! Oh I can see how she meant it that way, but yeah, my answer still applies - you can't rush the Force. So true about the insanity quote! We're just doing the same thing over again. I kinda wondered that about the senator, if maybe this wasn't the first time a mission to find Ezra or whatnot was not fruitful. Hehehe, I'd do anything for that spinoff!!! Yup, that's all we know, is the name Marrok. Hahaha I mean why not pile more onto Ahsoka right now right :P Ohh ok, I was trying to figure out if the purgils were actively helping or jus kinda doing their thing. Hmm, curious about the alien language. OHHHHH that's a good point, I have to get Ahsoka Bear a second one!!! :O

I really agree with you that what we're exploring now in this New Republic Timeline is helping develop the sequels. The New Republic in some ways reminds me of the New California Republic from the Fallout series, once a downtrodden people waylaid by raiders and mutants, but overtime got on their feet as a powerful faction in their own right, then later as they become more successful they become political and corrupt in some areas and spread thin throughout the Wasteland. You can see the same thing happening to the New Republic. Gone are the days of the Rebellion, they're knee capping themselves because they're so afraid of becoming an Empire, while the Sith retreat to the shadows and become like this cult. Elements of this do remind me a bit of how the Sith are in Knights of The Old Republic 2, but unfortunately without the moral complexity and well written characterization, which I hope we eventually get. I'd totally be on board with an Animated Series based on Rey trying to make something new. A new kind of Jedi Order that is free from the trappings of the Republic of both Old and New.I know we're likely getting a movie trilogy on that, but it would be a shame to never explore the era to the same extent that Clone Wars and Rebels did. And even Resistance to a certain extent. Speaking of Resistance, Senator Hamato Xiono is the father of Kazuda Xiono, one of the main characters from Star Wars Resistance. It's nice for Filoni to put some spotlights on Resistance as it doesn't get much love and recognition. I loved the space battle, especially when Ahsoka went out there. It reminds me of Plo Koon in the Malevolence Arc of Clone Wars and him fighting Battle Droids out in space until Ahsoka and Anakin rescued him, Wolffe, and the other surviving Clones. I loved the training montage with Ahsoka and Sabine. It reminds me of a couple different things, like that scene in A New Hope with Luke training with a Lightsaber. But also Episode 5 of Tales of The Jedi with Anakin training Ahsoka against the Clone's stun blasts. I liked Huyang pointing out that Ahsoka comes from a long line of Non Traditional Jedi: Dooku, Qui-Gon, Anakin, even Obi-Wan to a certain extent had a rebellion streak in his youth, and a kind of relationship with Satine. I'm really loving this Season and look forward to the coming episodes now that we're on Seatos. A confrontation with Baylan seems inevitable. What he's looking for and what Thrawn found is anyone's guess.

Nick

Yes I was reminded of the Malevolance arc in Clone Wars as well - and the fact that Ajsoka was involved as a very young padawan.

Nick

Of course I liked this episode but bits of it I struggled with a little. Seeing Jacen was a treat, especially, and perhaps unsurprisingly, we saw him with Chopper. But seeing Sabine train blindfolded and, particularly later, trying to force pull the cup, made me a little uncomfortable. The rationale for Sabine being trained as a padawan at the moment isn’t fully there for me, although it was at least partially addressed this episode. Why IS Ahsoka training Sabine as a JEDI PADAWAN?? I get that Ahsoka could train Sabine and that Sabine would benefit from that training, but what needs rationalising for me is Sabine’s status as a Padawan. Maybe this will become clearer in later episodes. On the plus side, I thought Natasha Bordizzo was very believable during the ‘blindfolded’ practice sabre scene, in terms of being fit, fast, coordinated, and with good and consistent ‘form’. I used to do some martial arts and I could tell that she would be good at kata if she wanted to be. It’s also interesting to note that the purgil this episode were big ones - seemingly bigger than when they were originally (the first time we saw them) portrayed in Rebels - although there were some really big ones in the epic season finale. To start with it seemed oddly artificial to introduce them into this episode, although Huyang made sense of that later on: it looks like this planet is on an intergalactic hyperspace route the purgil use, and the aim is to exploit this route to find Thrawn.

kamenriderhime

I hear you! Jacen was everything and I so love the idea of him and Chopper having adventures lol. I can totally see the question of why exactly we're doing this training though, especially if Ahsoka isn't aiming to make Sabine a Jedi. I'm sure all will be revealed in time! Oh yeah she killed it in that scene didn't she! Ohhh I didn't even realize that they were bigger! Yeah they did tie it all together eventually. I feel like they're building a lot of lore around what exactly happened when Ezra and Thrawn disappeared, which is cool!

Cody

I’m loving what they’re doing with Sabine’s training so far. Showing her struggling, not being able to move the cup immediately, I really hope they carry that on to the finale. I would be surprised if she uses the Force in the finale cause that’s how stuff like this goes in shows, but I’d love if it wasn’t even a big display and it was some small use of the Force that gives her the advantage in a fight or something. She’s just getting back into *trying* to use the Force after years since she last tried, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense for it to be some big show of power, though I wouldn’t mind it depending on how it’s done.

kamenriderhime

Me too! Yeah I'm curious to see where they go with it. It would be a nice switch if it was something small but significant! And I agree, it's more realistic not to have her pull off some massive display after all this time!

Finally able to catch you up on this Mel, its been a busy week! Ha I didn't know Ahsoka-bear not only had a lightsabre, but it actually ignites! Love it! :D As I said before I wasn't overly fond of Huyang in the Clone Wars arc, but he's grown on me a lot in this series and David Tennant is fantastic in the role. Oh Filoni I know what you are doing; when Ahsoka mentions about Sabine trying out Zato(i)chi I knew what was coming. Zatoichi was a collection of films and series from Japan in the 60's and 70's (and there was also a fairly recent film made you should check out Mel) that followed a blind master swordsman, which dear old Dave is referencing here, that scamp! Even the mask Sabine puts on is a Kendo mask. Mind you Star Wars and the Jedi concept of bushido in which a warrior must go into battle without fear and be willing to die, has always been influenced by Japanese Samurai and Buddhist culture. Even the coverings and bindings Ahsoka wears on her feet and legs are reminiscent of Samurai footwear, to give maximum balance and to keep quiet. Sabine knows that blindness wouldn't be an issue for someone strong in the force, as Kanan was her surrogate father and she saw what he was able to do once he got over his blindness, and in fact was then able to see further than he did when he had his vision. Of course she doesn't have the force to that level so is blocking herself as she doesn't believe yet she can do this. Ironically another reactor I watch just reached Sabine's Trials Of The Darksabre episode yesterday, so this feels almost a continuation of that, even down to the training sticks. First time I believe in canon that we see Mon Mothma as Chancellor Of The New Republic, I was wondering if they were going to establish that, but it makes sense, especially with all the coverage she's had in Rebels, Rogue One and Andor in the last 7 or 8 years now. It seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same, and she's beginning to have her hands tied as what happened to Chancellor Valorum when Palpatine made his move for the Chancellorship. I was wondering where Leia would be at this time, but found out that Ben Solo would have been an infant at this time, so she was probably looking after him and taking some time out. Reading that kind of puts this into perspective more as to where this is all going when we know what he will eventually do and become. Hera taking no prisoners in her discussion with the senators. She's hardened further now and doesn't want a repeat of what happened last time as she has lived through all that and knows these goings on have to be connecting somewhat to Thrawn returning. Jacen looks a sweet kid, I wonder if he is force sensitive as we know about his father, but Hera too with her piloting greatness has to have it a tad too. If he does start training to be a Jedi DON'T GO WITH LUKE!!! What would be fitting would be Ezra to train him, which would be so emotional to us. It sounds like he's been getting up to all sorts of nonsense with Chopper, why am I not surprised!! Ahsoka's message about the force to Sabine makes sense. Sabine might not have the talent to lift rocks or stop spaceships from flying off, but by opening herself to the force and training herself in it, will enable her to realise her potential. Ahsoka is trying to guide her on that path as she sees something in her, and she doesn't need to be Luke, Anakin or Yoda in the force to become that. Sabine wouldn't have been taught as a Jedi had the order still been around as Huyang brings up, but Ahsoka realises that its the principle of being what a Jedi should be thats important, not force power, though with training of course it can help her to see things beyond others. Its interesting that Huyang is with Ahsoka though, when he perhaps should be with Luke as he's about to set up his school. Luke represents the New Jedi Order though, like Ezra, a Knight who has been taught after the fall of the order. Ahsoka and Huyang are from the old order and perhaps are looking to get back to what the Jedi were. Luke is free to choose what his order will look like, though to me both he and Ahsoka represent the best of the Jedi, even when she isn't one technically now, and he will fail. At this time however no one is to know that and both Luke and Ahsoka are doing their own thing even if I don't think Ahsoka's goal is to restore the Jedi Order totally. I'm loving the vibes Shin is giving off, we've yet to get to know her, and there is something a bit off about her, but whether she is a darksider yet is to be determined. The girls eye-rolling at Huyang telling them to get closer to the hyperspace ring. They should be used to stuff like this working with two of the best pilots in the galaxy in Anakin and Hera. ;) Also its not the first time Ahsoka has fought in space, as we saw in the Clone Wars. :D The Purgils look amazing in live action! Kevin Kiner even brought their theme to the party too, love it!

kamenriderhime

Thanks for tuning in, so glad you were able to watch my reaction!!! LOL isn't that fun about the lightsaber? Someone was saying I need to get her a second one, and I just might haha. Yeah it's nice to see Huyang get some development here right! Ohhhhh no kidding about the Zatoichi reference!! That is awesome! I'd love to see those!!! That's so true that Sabine is aware of how much one can do with the Force even if they don't have physical sight. So cool that that reactor's reactions happened to be timed that way! That's true, I was wondering if they'd mentioned Mon as the chancellor before too! It does make sense, but you can really see history repeating itself here. Good call that Leia would be taking care of Ben at this time. Seeing Jacen is amazing, I wouldn't be surprised if he's force sensitive! OMG NO don't go with Luke!! Hera was such a boss here, she's seen enough of this bs for one lifetime and isn't about to see history repeat itself if she can help it. I love how Ahsoka describes the Force, it does make so much sense. And good point that she probably just wants Sabine in the mindset more than her gaining the actual power. That's actually a good point about Huyang, it does make sense for him to be with Luke doesn't it. I think you're right about Ahsoka and Luke. To be honest I wish Ahsoka had maybe been more involved in restoring the order, because you can tell she totally gets where they went wrong, which is something Luke doesn't really know from experience that way (and sadly history does repeat itself in a way). Shin's pretty cool!! Hahah so true, they should be used to it after working with Hera and Anakin huh! The Purgils look so good!!!! The music, visuals, etc. are all working so well here!
