Hey everyone! I'm back with season 2, episode 11 of Legend of Vox Machina!  Oh man, Scanlan's dealing with the fallout of the big reveal, meanwhile we're about to head into the fight of the century here with a dragon!  I loved Percy explaining the plan while everyone fell asleep and Scanlan trying to explain the situation to Pike and somehow making it so much worse lol.  And Vax finally got some clarity on his role as the Champion for the Matron!!  It's actually not so bad!  Also, I've gotta say that I was loving the clever moves everyone was using in the fight with Umbrasyl!  Scanlan's of course was the most...erm...memorable lol.  And now our crew is split and we still have a dragon at large.  Can't wait for the finale!  Great ep - enjoy!  ~ MH

“Usually, when they try anything, it just makes things worse!” Well, yeah, that kinda sums up the crew in a literal nutshell! Oh, that’s such a sweet backstory about Scanlan’s love interest… Me: Wait, he’s definitely remembering someone who isn’t the mom, isn’t he. 😂 Clearly his player rolled for perception and struck out. I think the scene between Vex and Keyleth was more to flesh out that the little things matter, or what’s the point in doing the rest of it? Vax, meanwhile, got his… assignment? Is this like Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean where he has to ferry the souls of the dead for a time? Also your girls are freaking out… I keep thinking of the trope where someone walks away and says, “I’m fine, it’s not my blood.” Oh and um… Percy… sometimes less is more? Let me give you a HAND. Also what is up with this show and gynecology? Everyone’s trying to figure out their own crap and then Vax and Scanlan went… there… This can’t get any weirder, right? 😋

I had a feeling that’s what it was with Vax. I mean the title of Reaper (though I’m still not sure if that’s completely synonymous with this position) tends to have a connotation with it that’s scary, but someone has to do it. And why not greet it as a friend? Does that make sense? I mean in a way death could be a beautiful thing. And not just departure but destiny as well has to come into play somehow and someway. Its definitely beautiful the way the Matron put it. And I absolutely love that position is going to someone as wonderful and stand up as Vax. It’s really fitting because he was actually scared of death, meaning he actually gave a crap about all this. I mean anyone would be freaked out but these last episodes, the way he’s been showing the levels of wary when seeing these things is taken to a degree of concern that not everyone would handle with such maturity. At least I don’t think so. I wondered what he’d do with that power but now I see it’s lead him to Umbrasyl’s rectum. That’s gross.

Hahaha yup, pretty much! HAHAHAHA I didn't see it coming at all about the misremembering but it was amazing! Yeah apparently that was a great roll for perception. :P Yeah good point about the Vex/Keyleth scene. Actually it is kinda like Pirates isn't it haha. But I'm glad he got it sorted out! Hahahaha it's totally that trope! LOL Percy!!! Oh yeah, you just know they're going *there* on a show like this :P Hahaha oh I don't know if I'd put that into the universe, I have a feeling they could outdo themselves somehow!!

kamenriderhime

True, there's probably a better way to put it than Reaper, but I am glad we got clarification! So true, why not make it a positive experience and emphasize the beauty in it I guess? I'm glad someone like Vax is doing it too! That's a good point, if he was scared, it at least means that he was invested. He has handled it quite well which just goes to show how well he really could fit into this role. OMG the up close look at Umbrasyl's innards was really something lol!

I’m so happy Vex is now willing to support Kiki’s feelings for her brother…..probably because Vex now feels more secure in her relationship with Percy. Vex still loves and cares for Vax of course, but they’re not co-dependent anymore. It represents significant maturity and growth in their relationship. Kiki has moreover proven herself worthy time and again such that Vex feels okay with letting Kiki be with Vax, feels like Kiki would be good for Vax.

kamenriderhime

Me too!!! That was a nice development! True about her relationship with Percy. They can still be close but without the co-dependency like you said. It's a huge bit of character growth! Well said!

So funny enough, Vax and Scanlan going in “the other way” was a change for the show. XD In the campaign, Scanlan’s player asked if he could try to teleport Vax and himself into Umbrasyl’s stomach, I believe Matt had him roll for it and he rolled good enough for it to work! At this point in the campaign Scanlan has had teleportation spells for a little while, I believe they took that away in the show so far cause it gives more stakes when that option’s not around. And I really love what Matt did with the Matron, it’s kinda like Hades from original Greek mythology, just because they’re a god of death doesn’t mean they’re evil. It’s a part of nature and I’m excited to see how their pact is shown in the future. I think from this point Vax also started multiclassing, meaning he invested some of his level ups into something besides the Rogue he’s been up to this point. In this case he started taking levels in Paladin, which is similar to a Cleric like Pike except they’re less spell focused and have an oath that they have to stay true to. Also like Clerics, Paladins have a god they follow, in this case Vax devoting himself to the Matron. I don’t know how they’ll represent this in the show beyond just showing him doing his duty as her champion but I’m interested to see what they do in the future.

kamenriderhime

Oh no kidding! That's interesting, I love hearing about the details of what was going on during the campaign. It is interesting to have a character/deity for death that isn't necessarily a villain. Thanks for explaining multiclassing and how players can become devoted to certain gods. I can't wait to see what they do too!

Cody

No problem! Multiclassing can seem a little daunting in the actual game so I haven’t really done it much myself. There’s a couple other multiclasses in VM but I don’t think they had story significance in the campaign. Vex eventually took some levels as a Rogue, and Grog took a level or two in Fighter (which is technically what Percy is). A lot of times people will start taking levels in another class because they want some specific ability the class gets down the line, or some will let the story dictate it like Vax’s case. The second and third campaigns have more cases of the latter which will be exciting when those eventually hit the screen as well.

kamenriderhime

That's interesting! It's a fascinating concept anyway. It's cool that it guides the story so much. I can't wait to see what happens later!!!
