A thing about the whole "The Separatists became the rebels" thing. This is partially true. Some of them did, for sure, but both sides of the war had all sorts of different people, who fought for very different reasons. There were good and bad people on both sides. The idea of 'fighting the corrupt abusive government regime' may very well be a similar sentiment between both the Rebels and Separatists, but there were definitely some legitimately evil people among the separatists who just used that as an excuse for them to just try and become more powerful themselves. And those people also had followers who believed in them. Much like Hellgate believed in Dooku. Anyways, enough of me rambling, time to get to the actual reaction. XD

What a banger of an episode. I don't know how this show can keep swapping tones every other episode and yet still deliver such good quality every single time! Also, you didn't say anything about it, so I figured I'd go ahead and point out that the dude in charge of protect Necromancer was referred to by the others as Commandant Hux. Crazy to see ol' Generals Hugs dad out of nowhere like that. XD

You don’t need to apologize if subtitles are on, quite honestly, I think that actually might work better so you can both talk and see what’s being said if somethings hard to hear or you’re in the middle of saying something over it. But that’s up to you, of course. Either way works, that’s my opinion. So, G68/Elia Kane was always working for Gideon, she just infiltrated the Republic and passed their, ahem, “rehabilitation” to plant herself on Coruscant. Oh look, Moff Gideon is back, and he’s already menacing and plotting as ever. At the same time, Giancarlo Esposito is such a fun actor to watch work because he just does scumbag so well. Particularly classy scumbag. You may not like his character but he definitely has a presence when he’s doing his lines. So we couldn’t just have him show up we had to have him walk through a menacing corridor filled with his minions and several laser doors just to show off. By the way, when the others asked about Pershing, they were referring to his experiments on Nevarro for Gideon back in S1 when Din was first sent to capture Grogu. Seems like for the most part, the two tribes are getting along, except for a few rocky patches. Bo doesn’t feel like she’s up to the challenge of it, and it’s understandable given certain details she reveals throughout the course of the episode - but I’ve often said the biggest problem with leading people is that the right ones are intelligent enough to not desire that position, they do it because they’re put there by others. There’s some RL comparisons to that thought but let’s not open that can of worms, shall we? I almost forgot about Grogu and his droid, as if Din didn’t have enough of a headache keeping track of him, now he can REACH stuff. Also him constantly hitting the “YES” button must be this show’s version of “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?” 😂 Seems like Mandalorians take their gaming seriously though, if they get this upset over a silly rule. Good thing Grogu is a peacekeeper? Or… should I use that word? Lol The Mandalorians they ran into on the surface were Nite Owls, and part of Bo’s clan, so that’s why they bonded straight away. I’m only at the end of S3 on Clone Wars so a lot of the stuff the characters are talking about hasn’t happened yet. But I do wonder if you know any of these characters who said they were there. Moff Gideon said he “stayed in his section,” and it appears he was right, because he apparently hollowed out his base on Mandalore, developed Dark Trooper technology with Beskar armor - oh boy, wait till the Armorer hears about THIS one - and basically spit in an entire culture’s face. Oh no, he’s not getting away. The only question is how is he not getting away? And finally, Paz… first off he shut the door on everyone else, something that people were always doing on Rebels, but the outcome was a lot more serious. He was still able to clear the room after giving Axe cover to get to the surface. You seemed a little surprised when the others showed, but remember Gideon wanted three Praetorian guards? Those were them, the same ones Palpatine used for his personal security. But what does Gideon want with Din? And also… I wonder how Paz is related to a certain other Viszla and if this might be the trigger that pulls them into this story? We’re all thinking it… Boy… did you do something this week, several of your go-to favorite shows are certainly giving you a rough time! (And of course there’s no Spy x Family medicine at the end of the week when we really NEED it… typical timing. 🙄) But he did say it himself. This is the way. Even when it hurts.

That's a really good point! It's not like everyone who fought on one side or the other was all "good" and/or switched sides automatically once things shifted. Also definitely true that there was genuine bad on the Separatist side, looking only to further their own means and agenda (heck, Palpatine was controlling the whole thing anyway, so that makes sense!). Hope you enjoyed my reaction!!!!

kamenriderhime

It really was!!! Right?! Somehow it all works and still feels cohesive. Ahhhh yes, I learned about Hux after!!!!! What a surprise!!! That's awesome, I love that they weave plot threads like that!

kamenriderhime

Thanks about the subtitles! I know they bother some people, and other people prefer them....so I mostly just use them when I need to! Right, she's a double agent, yikes! Hahaha oh classy scumbag is the perfect way to put it, and yes he does it SO well, he's mega talented!!! Oh yeah, they're pulling out all the works for him lol. Oh gotcha, thanks for clearing that up about Pershing. Oof, you said it about leadership.....!!! But yeah, under the circumstances I'd say they were doing as well as could be expected with merging the tribes. HAHAHAHA Grogu's yessing is totally the "are we there yet" of this show! Poor Din! Lol Grogu is an excellent keeper of the peace when needed, but yeah, don't mess with Mandalorians and their games I guess! Oh gotcha, I knew they knew/followed her but I wasn't quite sure of the details. Oh man, Moff truly spit in the face of their culture, and yeah he's been busy cultivating all this. Whatever happens, I have a feeling it will involve some sweet revenge for Bo! Paz!!! :((( Oh yeah, he did mention the guards, honestly I don't think I knew what they were called lol. Yeah why spare Din?? I had that question too. Yes!!!!! I've been wondering if they'd explain that this whole time. Who knows how they're related but I'm guessing the name Viszla isn't exactly common! SERIOUSLY, did I tick off the reaction gods or something?! What the heck lol! I think they need to make another season of RWBY Chibi to help me deal with all this stress :O Lol!!! This is the way :((((((( Even when it's hard!!!! So true!!! RIP Paz <3

One of the interesting things about Clone Wars is that quite often (at least in the earlier seasons) the separatists were portrayed as carrying out obviously evil acts in the war. Whereas, often the faults of the Republic in the war were less obvious, although that’s presumably in part because Palpatine was publicly making the effort to be a basically virtuous and reasonable man who was just doing what he was forced to do because of circumstances out of his control). It’s also easier to see the Republic as far more benevolent as we mostly saw them killing droids rather than ‘sentient’ creatures - this looks okay so long as we don’t spot all the clone troopers being used as cannon fodder, of course. But yes, certainly self interest must have existed on both sides.

kamenriderhime

Oh that's actually a good point! The presentation was definitely more in favor of the Republic, but only if you didn't look a bit more closely like you said. But each side had corruption for sure!

Saltire

Hux here is also played by the brother of the actor who played General Hux in the sequels as well, which is a nice tie-in. As Nick has said elsewhere, a lot of Ewan's family has done Star Wars now, and they even got Liam Neeson's son in also for Tales Of The Jedi to play a young Qui-Gon. I always think that stuff is great.

kamenriderhime

No kidding!! That's awesome! I love that they got Liam Neeson's son too! I think so as well :)

Thrawn is on his way!!! Loving Gus, erm I mean Moff Gideon's new armour, made of beskar as well. The man has got style, you gotta give him that! He also has an ego the size of Jupiter, and I kind of respect that too; he's a fun villain! :D So plenty of stuff we hear of happening behind the scenes with the Empire. Captain Palleon is Thrawn's right-hand man from the old EU and was in the Rebels finale, so he is holding the fort in the meantime until the Grand Admiral is back. We see Hux too, who is the father of General Hux from the sequels, and gives Gideon some early First Order tech. Then there is mention of Project Necromancer aka 'somehow Palpatine returned'. ;) And then of course Gideon himself has been working away on developing new armour troopers who use beskar also. Some great shots of the Mandalorian fleet this episode. The effects shots on tv shows these days are almost movie level in quality; and of course Disney is the hegemony of the entertaiment market, so can do it better than anyone, even HBO. Grogu getting into the IG-12 mechsuit and button mashing 'yes' and 'no' constantly, had me tickled no end. And we see him nick a meiloorun! So its not just Ezra who does that! What a little tyke! :D The 'I will go' part reminded me of the 'I'm Spartacus!!!' scene from that film; and was quite moving seeing them finally come together for a bigger purpose, other than themselves individually. Bo-Katan later says it perfectly, and its always been my interpretation of Mandalorians, when she says that their people have always been strong throughout the galaxy and feared by others, but that its always been their own squabbling thats caused more damage to their civilisation, than almost anything, excluding the Empire. I like later in the episode when she mentions about her being 'selfish' before, and being part of the problem with her old Death Watch faction, bringing down her own sister's government, and starting them on the path to this near extinction; even if she was at the forefront for decades, of the fightback against the Empire. It looks like they all are learning that co-operation is better for the whole, than self-centred interests. Love the design of that sailing type ship that came in, and its obviously been repurposed materials from the survivors who couldn't get off-world when the purge happened. Very Mad Max in its design. Good to see Skinny Pete back as a Mandalorian too, ha! You can hear the sorrow and conflict in Katee Sackhoff's voicing of Bo, as she tells the rest about her surrendering her forces, to keep the remnants alive. This harks back to when she rescues Obi-Wan in Clone Wars and she states 'Mandalore will always survive'. Obviously surrendering is not a very Mandalorian thing to do, but it was a necessary one here, we can't blame her; and its something along the lines of what her sister would do too. Din swearing his allegiance to Bo's leadership was touching, and he's right. The Mandalorians existed thousands of years before Tarre Viszla came along and made that lightsabre. While anyone holding the blade carries great weight and influence, its still just a symbol, its the actions of the wielder that can help unify Mandalorians. Grogu stopping the fight was great, and shows some of his Jedi teachings are paying off. Now that Obi-Wan is gone, he can be the new 'Negotiator'. :D Those beskar stormtroopers looked the biz, it has to be said, and I like how they baited our Mando friends into the trap set by Gideon. So Din gets captured, and Paz goes out like an absolute boss, RIP big fella, we may not always have liked you, but you were a true believer.

The opening crawl for Revenge Of The Sith reads : 'War! The Republic is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless Sith Lord, Count Dooku. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere.' I think that explains the situation well. We are telling the story from the Republic pov, and that the Separatists under Dooku are the baddies; yet it states both sides have their heroes and evil is also spreading across the entire galaxy no matter which side you lie.

kamenriderhime

That's such a great point! We're being told from this certain POV throughout many of the series and movies, but yet there's a lot on both sides for sure. No side is truly completely without fault.

kamenriderhime

Thrawn is imminent!! LOL Gus!! He is one entertaining villain for sure! You nailed it with your estimation of him, I think! Yes, I found out after the fact that there are some notable characters in that scene, like Palleon and Hux! It does help fill in some gaps for the infamous "somehow Palpatine returned" meme haha. I couldn't agree more about how great the effects look! The yes/no suit was amazing!!! And YES!!!! I thought that was a meiloorun!! I can see the similarities to Spartacus for sure! Bo really did sum it up well when she said that. It's great to see her growth/realization, as well as Manadalore reuniting. The ship was really cool! I can see how it was very Mad Max! OMG that was Skinny Pete!!!! I didn't even realize lol. Such a good callback to Obi-Wan's line about Mandalore, that's so true. I loved Din swearing allegiance to her!!! He's so right, too, about the darksabre being symbolic for something bigger. Hahaha awwww Grogu taking Obi-Wan's place, I love it!!! He's such a good peacekeeper! The stormtroopers did have quite a look! It's a trap, indeed! Paz :((((( He really was!! This is the way :'D

I kind of think there was a bit of double-speak in that Shadow Council. When Moff Gideon says, "I hear that they are planning to retake their homeworld of Mandalore," I think he's really saying, "They're coming after my very own base of operations. So yeah, I need you to help me save my behind, pretty please." As for Thrawn... He's an art afficianado, and I imagine he's waiting for this tapestry to be colored in as much as possible before he commits to it as a mostly finished work of art. As for Captain Pelleaon, Thrawn's representative on the Shadow Council... If you ever read Timothy Zahn's original novels from 1991-1993, you might recognize Pelleaon as the Watson to Thrawn's Holmes, in a manner of speaking. And the end of the episode, where we see the Praetorian Guards... The lines between Empire and First Order are growing thinner and thinner. To paraphrase many brave heroes, I have a very bad feeling about this.

kamenriderhime

Ohhh I can see that for sure, good call. I'm actually reading them now, and I can totally see Pelleaon being the Watson to Thrawn's Holmes!!! I wish I could have read them before this season of Mandalorian but I'm at least trying to get a bit caught up before Ahsoka!! The guards were a nice touch and they do show how the lines are becoming blurred. I too have a bad feeling about this!!!
