Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 4, episode 8 of REBELS!!!!  Oh dang guys, we totally needed this wacky breather ep lol!  The captain of the mining ship drove me nuts, but to be fair, he was just defending his ship I guess!  Zeb and Ezra getting to do some acting, some high-flying adventure scenes, and one heck of a speech from Hera made this ep great.  Oh yeah, and we got Vizago back!  And a bunch of folks who want to help the rebellion, so yay!  Alright, let's go with this new attack plan!!!!!!  Can't wait!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

We definitely needed this low stakes episode before the last stretch of the show. Next few weeks are going to be crazy.

Yeah we said it before, but Sabine's new look is so cool. Next to Gar Saxon's armour set at the Siege Of Mandalore, it might be the sweetest looking armour we've seen. Unless some prefer Din's chrome look in Mando, or even Boba Fett's new getup with the Tusken armour underneath his green and orange paint job. I also like Bo-Katan's helmet and her Nite Owl insignia's too personally (well I have to include her since she is my fave Mandalorian!). Ezra doing another of his terrible impressions, this time a Trandoshan, when will he learn, he's a worse old ham than Daniel Day-Lewis! :D That Trandoshan foreman fighting Zeb is huge! Not many could suplex Zeb! This fight scene is a nod to Indiana Jones fighting the big guy from Raiders Of The Lost Ark. The stunt actor playing the big fella was called Pat Roach (and I knew of him well in another series back in the early 80's in the UK), and they called this Trando in honour of him, Proach! Haha I agree, Kanan should have used the force to lift Zeb, easier than trying to lift all 30 stone of him manually! Mon Mothma mentions Protocol 13 that the Empire is now using, to extricate imperial personnel from worlds, when they are about to do something more sinister to said world. This is a reference to the first time we see Protocol 13 in Rogue One, when the Empire leaves Jedha, before the Death Star fires on the city killing Saw and his cell. Hera giving the rebel leaders a rousing speech, and she is rewarded in her actions by them finally committing to attacking Lothal directly. They couldn't do it before when Thrawn ambushed them, lets see how it goes next time. Hera also gets rewarded in another way, which we'll see in the next ep! Its a good point though about the rebel alliance still being reticent to take on the Empire head on. From Mon Mothma and the others at Yavin, you could see why; they don't have the numbers yet to do so. And when they did try something by trying this attack last season, Thrawn was onto them and almost decimated two rebel cells including Phoenix Cell. We see this later too in Rogue One, when Jyn Erso tries the same thing as Hera here in getting support to go to Scarif. She doesn't succeed as Hera does, but she does get Cassian and his crew of ne'er-do-well's on board, and they make the difference in inspiring the Rebellion to act and get the Death Star plans. We can see Ezra is out of practice climbing in ventilation shafts, he's not as young as he was! Yes there is 15 episodes in the final season, but ep 15 is a double episode.

What is Ezra trying to impersonate? Seevor (the mining captain) is a lizard but Ezra’s impersonation sounds a lot more like a snake! 😂 Oh, look, it’s Vizago. We totally hadn’t forgotten about you… at all… and this is all part of an elaborate rescue mission… 👀 What was that whole sequence between Zeb and the foreman? Seemed like a cross between WWE, MMA, American Gladiators and downright ridiculousness, didn’t it? Meanwhile Mon’s worried about something called Protocol 13 - which I think we all know is the Death Star. But Hera’s point is we’re so worried about making a wrong move that it’s paralyzing the rebels to not do anything and that’s what the Empire wants. Speaking of the Empire, is that the first time we’ve ever ended a Stormtrooper encounter without a firefight on this show? Seevor ended up falling to his doom courtesy of Ezra’s lightsaber, T2 style, after he did a whole John McClane through the ventilation shaft (hey, it’s still Christmas season!) Do you think this was a reference to all the times kids’ parents tripped over their toy lightsabers in the house? 😏 See what happens when Hera isn’t around to keep her “family” in line? They get into all sorts of weird shenanigans and we’ll, it’s usually not boring, is it? 10-1 Seevor was listening to a bad Nickelback song. There I said it. 😁

Manny

Anyone else actually feel bad about what happened to Seevor? I mean he was just going about his day and he was entertaining. RIP 🦎

kamenriderhime

I get it, he was just trying to do his job! He drove me a little crazy but he was entertaining :P

kamenriderhime

Hahahha it's called "acting"! :P I guess he was putting, erm, his own spin on it? Poor Vizago! At least it all turned out okay. Hahahahaha omg what an amazing cross between so many fighting platforms! That's the thing, I get that the Death Star is worrying, but - the Empire works on fear. If we're too afraid to make moves, that's the end! Omg, you might be right about the stormtrooper haha. Hahahah good Christmas reference there! Oof, this might indeed be for all the parents out there. Oh I know, without mom everyone gets into trouble :P HAHAHAHAHAHHA I just about died when I read the Nickelback line!!!!!!! OMG!!!! Someone please, please do that edit :P

kamenriderhime

Yes Sabine looks awesome! The armor!! I know it's a matter of preference, but this is definitely one of my faves too. I alos really like Bo-Katan's!! HAHAHAHA Ezra, omg, the comparison made me laugh! That's the thing, if someone's holding their own against Zeb, that says a lot! Oh no kidding about the nod to Indiana Jones. Oh how cool about the namesake! Lol I'm glad someone agrees with me about using the Force!! :P Interesting about the Protocol 13 mention. Oooh can't wait to see Hera's reward, she was amazing! That's a good point about the hesitation, it's definitely not unwarranted! Hahha Ezra is out of shape when it comes to those ventilation shafts!! Oh no kidding about ep 15, maybe I'll just do that one by itself then! Thanks for the info!

Yes, with Rebels being an odd number of episodes and you watching two at a time, it was best what you did with the end of season 1 and watching 2 eps of season 2, so that for most of the arcs and two-episode stories, you'd be able to watch them in one sitting; and with episode 15 being 45 mins or so, it kind of counts as two episodes as well, so I think its worked out pretty well. Not long left for you with Rebels Melissa, and another reactor I follow finished Clone Wars yesterday too. Its bittersweet finishing a good series. :) As an aside, I rewatched this episode again tonight and forgot to mention Ezra did a "Hello there!" - they gave him that honour, that only the best SW characters get!! Chopper needs to get one! :D

Nick

Mel, just to flesh out what Saltire has said, Episode 15 is 47 minutes long compared to a normal 23 minute length episode, so you can think of episode 15 as being episodes 15 and 16. It works out well, really. But like Saltire, I will be sad when your reactions to this awesome show are over. Sad partly because it’s such a great show, but also because what really makes this work is that you are such a great person to watch this show with, because of who you are and because you clearly really get the show and appreciate it.

kamenriderhime

That worked out perfectly then! Wow, wrapping up Clone Wars is a big milestone too, congrats to the reactor you watched! Oh, I didn't notice the hello there, that's awesome! I hear you both, it's bittersweet because I'd love for this show to go on forever since I love it so much!! Omg Nick, thank you so much for your kind words, that means a lot!!! ^_^ I do love this one a lot, it's in my heart forever!!!! I'll miss it but thankfully there's still a lot of other fun Star Wars content to go through when I'm done!!!!!!

Nick

You are welcome :-) On the more Star Wars content to come, the rest of Rebels (after episode 10 you will post on Monday) is brilliant: very memorable for all sorts of reasons. But also I saw something on the internet - a trailer - suggesting Bad Batch Season 2 is coming out 4th January. I haven’t checked that to confirm it but it looked genuine.

Saltire

Yes Nick Bad Batch season 2 is starting Wednesday. In preparation I watched the pilot again last night - all 70 mins of it! For an animation series thats a big one, but it sets the premise of the series up well. Seen the first season about 3 times now and will be 4 by Wednesday, and can't wait for it as been looking forward to this the most all year. Should have a fair amount of SW content in 2023 again. Bad Batch in Jan, Mando season 3 in March, Ahsoka probably in the summer followed by The Acolyte, and possibly Skeleton Crew as well. Lots of good stuff ahead I'm sure!

Nick

Thanks for the confirmation, Saltire. I should probably watch Bad Batch season 1 again (I’ve only seen it once so far) before watching season 2, but I might just wait for Mel’s season 1 reactions. I must say I don’t know anything at all about The Acolyte or Skeleton Crew - not even if they are live action or animated, although I do know they are coming. However, I’m obviously very much looking forward to the forthcoming Ahsoka series, although I would prefer it to be animated rather than live action. Still, I do have high hopes with this one.

Saltire

I would prefer more Star Wars animations too outside of Bad Batch. I know we got Tales Of The Jedi last year and that was a pleasant surprise, though I don't know if they are doing those again and if so, when they'd come out. They did well with the fanbase, especially the Dooku stuff, so I could see more stories being told (come on, finish Ventresses story!!!), but aside from that, all we know is Visions season 2 is being worked on too, though I don't expect to see anything from that until at least 2024. I personally would love an animation with Luke and R2 going off on adventures, which could help fill the gap in between the original trilogy and the sequels more for his character, and it would be easier to do it in animation rather than have to CGI Mark Hamill again (though I have been checking out Disney's new de-ageing tech and it looks very good) or recast the character which I can't see happening. As for the Ahsoka series, we can discuss that later for reasons you'll know of; its written and showrunned by Filoni though and most of the stuff he does turns to gold (the only blip for me with him is Resistance but nobody is perfect). Skeleton Crew and Acolyte are both live action; SC stars Jude Law who is the pilot of a ship and the rest of his crew is made up of kids. I expect that one is for the younger age group, but like Rebels here, that doesn't mean it might be bad. The one I'm keen to see though is The Acolyte. Again its a live series and it will be set late in the High Republic, 100 years before The Phantom Menace, and we will be following a darksider. Disney has been doing a lot of High Republic stuff through books over the last few years, and this is their chance to dip their toes in outside of the Skywalker timeline. I really hope its a success as it may then give Disney confidence to explore other timelines in the SW galaxy, perhaps thousands of years back during the Mandalorian Wars, Jedi Civil War, First Sith Empire etc; or past the sequels as well.

kamenriderhime

I'm so excited to start season 1 of Bad Batch, as sad as I'll be to see Rebels go. I'd love to see more Ventress too!!! And Luke and R2!!!! Wow, there are so many series to look forward to this year! I think it would be cool to see more about the High Republic. I love the Skywalker stories but as long as it's done well (like Andor), I certainly am down for some other stories as well!

Saltire

Yes Melissa, its all down to the production and especially the writing. Both BoBF and Kenobi had flawed parts and moments in them - which didn't really detract from the series too much for me but others go on about them when referencing their shows - whilst Andor struck gold when it was the least fancied of all series we were getting. That level of quality will be difficult to achieve again, but between that and Mando, it shows they can reach it. I'm confident enough with Ahsoka, but as for the others we'll see. One of the reasons I love the animations too also is that more often than not they tend to get it spot on; they have a team and a method that works wonderfully; between Clone Wars, Rebels, Tales Of The Jedi and season 1 of Bad Batch (which isn't on the level yet of the other series, but its solid stuff), they have made some terrific stuff which furthers the story and the universe outside of the live stuff. Visions was a bit up and down, but that was lent out to different animation studios across the world and was a chance for others to give their take on Star Wars stories, and it was non-canon so they could play around with it a bit more. As said the only dud for me is Resistance, which is a shame as it could have been a chance for the sequels to be fleshed out a bit more but you can't always get it right. Hence I think an animation with Luke and R2 or from the High Republic using characters from those books they have been running along side several long-lived Jedi we know from this time (Tera Sinube, Yoda of course - who is in them, Yaddle, Yarael Poof and Oppo Rancisis); then that time can be further explored, to see the Jedi as they were meant to be.

kamenriderhime

That's so true, a good story doesn't need to necessarily rely on certain characters! That's a great point about animation, too - the teams they've had working on these series have really created something special! True that Visions was a bit more experimental. I think that would be so cool to see in animated form!!! This universe is so expansive, there are still so many characters you could create a great story around!
