Hey everyone! Here I am with Jojo season 1, episode 16!!! Oh wow, here we go with the training! I like Lisa Lisa so far, and man, she does not mess around!! I like how there's no "cheating" or shortcuts when it comes to this challenge - probably a good lesson for later on in our Hamon use too. Jojo picked it up FAST! He all but made it on his own, and had Caesar there to help him at the end, which speaks to how much the bond/respect between them has grown. Can't wait for more!! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

2023-02-02 19:49:22 I love these episodes. I think episode 15 does an even better job of showing how monstrous the pillar men are while also showing the very human traits. Like Kars being aloof and very focused on their goal because of his immortality & Wamuu having a warriors pride. Also the voice actors for the PM are amazing. It’s so interesting to see the Hamon techniques of Joseph and Caesar. Unfortunately for them these enemies are crazy powerful so these techniques are not enough. I think it’s interesting that Wamuu doesn’t want him to throw away his life. I like how Joseph used his trickery/sleight-of-hand to his advantage. The divine sandstorm attack is awesome especially because of the animation. I love how absolutely goofy Joseph is here but I think it’s a little funny that the narrator comes in to reassure the audience that he is still the hero. I agree that it’s very Loony Toons which is great especially the dynamite. It’s scary that this antagonist is also able to predict his enemies. I love how Joseph reads Wamuu’s personality to save himself by issuing a challenge. Unfortunately for Joseph he didn’t expect the time limit to be literal. The rings were gross. I love that this gained Joseph Caesar’s respect. And the most important thing to take from this episode for me is that Joseph is the goofiest fucker I have ever seen sorry about the language LOL. While I wouldn’t say I love episode 16 I do like and enjoy it. I’m glad that Joseph is now learning more about Hamon. I love Lisa Lisa’s design it’s not just beautiful it’s really cool. I think her strict, no nonsense personality is awesome especially with how it contrasts with Joseph’s personality. I think Lisa Lisa & Joseph’s interactions are great because she doesn’t buy/take any of his nonsense. The breathing device is interesting. Also the way Lisa Lisa basically dances on the water is amazing. This test chamber was absolutely brutal and I think that it’s best shown by how exhausting it seems. I think this test is important because it shows Joseph that his trickery & cleverness isn’t always going to help him. I love the way both Joseph & Caesar overcame this test I thought their solutions were smart and very cool. I like the respectful friendship that they are forming. I’m glad you already really like Lisa Lisa. Awesome reaction & discussion and keep up the great work. :-) <3

Yeah I agree, they do a good job of showing the balance in the Pillar Men! And the voice acting is superb. Divine sandstorm looked amazing!!! And leave it to Jojo to have something up his sleeve! Lol it's so Looney Tunes!!! Yeah Jojo was good at reading his opponent here. The rings were so icky!! HAHAHAHA no it's okay, it's totally true about Jojo! And yes it was awesome to see Caesar start to respect him. I'm glad Joseph is learning more Hamon too, and Lisa Lisa is awesome! The contrast is really fun! The chamber was no joke. So true that this shows that the slight of hand won't work in every situation; Joseph really has to put in the work here and he does! Thank you so much!!!! I truly appreciate all your kindness!!!!

Lisa Lisa is named after Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam, but Street Fighter Alpha used Lisa Lisa's design as the inspiration for Rose... Though Lisa Lisa has yet to fully wear the outfit that inspired the design. I think this might be the episode that made me quit Jojo for a little bit(Either that or it was the kite made out of leaves and hamon supporting THREE people that did it. XD), the traps in the stone Pillar was a liiiiiiittle too much for me...Though once I got back in, I stayed in for good. O: Also "Loggs" is actually "Loggins" As in Kenny Loggins, and "Meshina" is actually "Messina"... Who is named after Jim Messina.

Hi Hime :) Poor Joseph, engaged with two muscular old men before he even had a girlfriend lol. And yes, this episode is surely the most cartoony, whether it's Joseph playing dead, Wamuu standing on the mine cart, the dynamite trick, Esidisi swallowing the dynamite and his belly swelling with the explosion (very The Mask with Jim Carrey in the idea). It will not be the last cartoon passage of the entire series, but it remains in the memories. Lisa Lisa voice actress is Atsuko Tanaka, who is a VA with many roles, but whom you probably know for Hanami (Jujutsu Kaisen), Ryouko Tamiya (Parasyte, the one who had a child), Konan (Naruto), but she is above all known for being Major Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell. With Wamuu's VA being the voice of Batou, the Major's closest friend in GitS, it's a fun reunion. Watching the episode again, the character very icy and hard with her apprentice Lisa Lisa and her masked appearance reminds me of Marin in Saint Seiya / Knight of the zodiac. But Lisa Lisa is also the inspiration for other women in manga, I'll come back to that in due time. Her name comes from Lisa Lisa and the cult jam, a New York group from the 80s. Loggins and Messina take their name from a duo called... Loggins and Messina. Known during the 70s, one of their biggest hits is... Danny's song (just to stay in Jojo).

There isn’t a whole lot to unpack with this episode - but both Jojo and Lisa Lisa might be underestimating what the other is capable of. They really just throw you in the deep end, immediately, huh? Sink or swim mentality? I guess she thought she was being… slick? I believe by the end of this episode 26 days have passed. Also the ending imagery changes because more and more characters on the “pillar” are being revealed. Kind of like the opposite of what’s happening in Kamen Rider Geats’ intro, if that makes any sense. So where’s your weird meter now regarding this show, we never discussed that? 🙃

Manny

Yep definitely hxh vibes. The energy, the large doors reminded me of the Zoldyck gates, water in a cup to test talent. I totally forgot the were in oil till the trap was set (by Joseph). Ugh I can’t imagine so many hours down there. 😷

kamenriderhime

Ohhh okay, thanks for the info! No kidding, seems like a lot has borrowed from Jojo! Hahah yeah I can see how there's a bit of an over-the-topness about the kite and pillar! Ohhh thanks for clarifying about the name inspirations! Some of them are easier to guess than others!

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) LOL I know, poor guy! It's so cartoony and I love it! Oh I can totally see some Mask vibes, I loved that movie as a kid! WHOA, no kidding about Lisa Lisa's VA, what a resume! Thanks for clarifying the name inspiration, and about the later inspiration this character would give. NO WAY, I can't believe there's a hidden Danny reference!!! :') That made my day!!! He'll never be forgotten <333

kamenriderhime

Yes!!! I can see it for sure! It seems like it was a really, really long time down there, yikes!!

kamenriderhime

Hmm, I could see the slight underestimation on both parts! HAHAHAH omg, Yang would be proud! Sheesh, that's a lot of time down there. Oh, cool about the end theme! Yeah, I totally see how it's opposite of Geats! OMG, it got so weird somewhere along the lines that I think I gave up on the meter :P

Senpai

...Funny enough there's still ONE more character in Street Fighter that was inspired by another JoJo Character, but we're a long way off before we can talk more about that. 😂

Those two episodes were great, the relationship between Jojo and Caesar is getting good, Lisa Lisa is one hell of a woman and my boi Speedwagon came back safely to his friends' side. As for the Pillar Men, I don't care much for Kars and Esidisi, but Wamuu is fine I guess, at least for now. Liked your reactions, gonna see the next ones right now!

kamenriderhime

Yes!!! Interesting thoughts on the Pillar Men, I'm not sure what I think of them all yet. Hope you love my reactions!! Thanks!
