Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 3, episode 17 of REBELS!!!!  WHOA.....this episode was SO TENSE!!!!  Okay first off, hats off to Kallus for really doing pretty well setting up a grand scheme that may have worked had anyone else but Thrawn been the one in charge.  I really, really, wish he had just gone with our rebels now!!!!!!!!  Now that Thrawn knows he's Fulcrum, I have a feeling he'll use it to his advantage instead of calling him on it right away.  Just what we need!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

This episode has one of my favorite intros, seeing things from Kallus’s perspective. And it’s hilarious how they actually kinda make you feel bad for Lyste, he was so convinced he was helping. 🤣

Oh nice! Yeah it was an interesting shift of POV right? OMG I know, like you can't help but feel a little bad right :P

At the start of this episode, we are viewing things from the first person, as we inhabit Kallus himself. Dave Filoni originally wanted to make this episode entirely from that first person perspective, but budgets were always tight on this show (unlike now!) so that idea was scrapped. Poor Lt. Lyste! He's had his pants pulled down multiple times in this series, even in the opening episode, when our crew stole those crates from under him; then he gets scolded into submission from Leia, when he didn't do a lot wrong that episode, and now is the sacrificial pawn in a game of wits between Kallus and Thrawn. I really hope they don't send that Doctor in who was working with Dedra in Andor to interrogate him - he doesn't deserve that fate, especially when Thrawn knows he is innocent! Kallus is playing such a dangerous game here staying when he was given the chance to flee; he's a braver man than I. I would have been on board that escape ship faster than Chopper! Thrawn showing his physical prowess as well as his mental aptitude here, going toe-to-toe with Dark Troopers, which we saw in Mando. Chopper Base is safe for now, but our friends cannot make one slip or Thrawn will pounce. Yularen is more like his Clone Wars version than the one we saw heading up the search for Cassian in Andor. Shame he didn't defect and stayed with Ahsoka, rather than join up with the Empire; he would have been a great rebel leader. Its somehow strange to see Ezra in an imperial officer's uniform. We've seen him in countless trooper outfits, but an officer's one, is a bit strange to see, though he does look pretty good in it. I do kind of like their wee caps, I have to admit! Kanan calling Rex 'gramps', technically he is older than Rex (by a year), so I always find that line funny! If you notice at the back of Thrawn's office behind his chair (and in the final shot with Thrawn), there is what looks like two creatures, which on first glance seems strange. However, this is a heavy nod to the original novels of Thrawn. In them (I believe as I heard this on another reactors channel), there was a world where animals used the force to hunt. And some animals evolved to cancel out the force so they wouldn't be hunted. Thrawn keeps these creatures close to him in those books, so that a force-user, like a Jedi, can't use the force on him, so he always has the upper hand.

Ezra certainly is an angry little man when he needs to be. The entire episode , crazily enough, is focused on Agent Kallus (who would’ve thought THAT a few seasons ago?) And he’s actually pretty intelligent - he’s very good at manipulating his way into certain situations. In fact this entire episode felt kind of like the Empire playing a game of “Who’s On First?” (It’s an old comedy reference. Or if you like we could also use the multiple Spider-Man meme where everyone’s pointing to someone else. Kallus, Pryce, Lyste, Yularen… everyone’s completely baffled. There’s… just one problem and that’s that Thrawn is the smartest guy in the room. So, quick side note, I know you have no real love for a certain Sith Lord, but does anyone make you quite on edge as the calm blue man? Just curious. By the way, I don’t think it’s a specific thing that Thrawn noticed Sabine’s Art - it was established in an earlier episode that he’s a connoisseur of art, and he got pretty emotional about it - so I imagine he’s just learned to recognize her work like anyone else’s. At least he didn’t notice the MSP, or at least I don’t think he did. The planet that was removed was replaced with a decoy so it’ll be harder to spot an anomaly. In the meantime, you have to sit here and watch what happens next. As AP-5 would say, “oh, good, the thankless job.” PS: I think I found Hera in Clone Wars, 1x21 if you want to skim it. She also might’ve been in 1x20 but not quite sure if that’s the case. Just thought I’d bake the connection since I just hit that mark. 😁

Lol yes he can channel it pretty well ight! Hahaha love the comedy and meme references, and it's true - this whole thing is one manipulation/twist after another! Ooof, that's a good question about Thrawn....for suspense/danger, I'd say Thrawn takes the cake. For eliciting my pure unbridled hatred, Palpatine is still my go-to hahaha. Yeah, I really hope he doesn't notice the tampering! Hahaha it's the best thankless job though :D OHHHH no kidding, I'll have to go back and look! Thanks!!

kamenriderhime

Oh that's interesting about the one-person perspective!!! I know, I kinda feel bad for Lyste haha! OOF, that's a horrible thought about the Doctor from Andor - I hope not!!!!!!! He's super brave, although I wish he'd left now!! HAHAHAHA the Chopper comparison made me laugh, I couldn't agree more though!! I know, as if Thrawn needed to be any more dangerous! Yeah our crew cannot afford any mistakes!!! I know, it's too bad Yularen ended up with the Empire!! The Imperial caps are pretty fashionable, I mean they had to get something right, right??? Lol! Seeing Ezra in the uniform is unique for sure. Hahaha oh that's true about Kanan and Rex!!! Go figure!! Ohhhh no kidding about the nods to the novels, that's so cool!! Whoa, those animals sound pretty powerful if they can negate the Force, wow!!!!!!!!! Such a fun fact!!!

Saltire

Yeah one thing the Empire do get right in the main, is their fashion. Those white overcoats we see from the ISB officers in Andor are very swish; Inquisitor armour always looks great, Palpatine's red Imperial Guards, Death Troopers, all look so cool. Well if you are going to be a baddie, at least look good doing your dastardly deeds! :D

Manny

Thrawn had me holding my breathe. And not only brains but brawn’s too :0 how?! It just makes him more intimidating. I hope Kallus will be okay

I can’t help but feel Yularen deserves an episode or even more in any future Tales of the Jedi type animations: surely there is a tale to tell there with regards him siding with empire after order 66. Part of what is interesting is that in Clone Wars Yularen is a actually a likeable character, and of course he had relatively close relationships with a number of Jedi, and knew what they were like; didn’t order 66 cause any discomfort for him? What was Yularen doing during order 66, and what was his reaction and feelings during order 66? After all, he wasn’t a clone trooper with a chip in his head. Indeed, this last point about the lack of chips is true of many high ranking personnel who worked with the Jedi at the time of order 66.

Saltire

Yeah we don't know where Yularen was during Order 66. Probably in orbit around Coruscant. Anakin's 501st remember gets split up, with Rex heading with Ahsoka to Mandalore, and Appo becomes Anakin/Vader's second-in-command in the absence of Rex when they head to the Jedi Temple to kill off the Jedi there. Vader then later heads to Mustafar on his own to kill off the remaining separatist leaders, before Padme and Obi-Wan reach him for the final confrontation. I think we'll see more of Yularen in season 2 of Andor when the rebellion steps it up in its fight against the Empire; though how he'll be portrayed there, I'm unsure. He was all-in in the live series, where we see here in Rebels that he looks kinder of heart. The Tales Of... stuff I want to see the most, is the end of Ventress's story. Unfortunately I think they'll follow the Dark Disciple book which imo is soap-opera drivel and definitely not what Ventress deserves; as I have my own ideas about her fate; but we do need to see some sort of conclusion for her, since she was so prominent in the Clone Wars series.

Nick

I wonder if we will see Yularen in the next season of the Bad Batch, and I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Yularen again in the next season of Andor. And absolutely with regards seeing more of Ventress in another season of Tales of the Jedi. I’ve got a real soft spot for her as a character, for some reason.

Saltire

Oh yeah we all love Ventress; complex, dangerous and dare I say it, sexy! The epitome of the femme fatale in Star Wars.

kamenriderhime

It would be interesting to know more about how Yularen got from Point A to Point B - but I have to say that I'm dying to see more about Ventress!!! My vote would have to go to that lol!
