Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 3, episode 14 of REBELS!!!!  Whoa, what a fun and intense adventure we had with Zeb and co in this ep!!  I love it when we get to focus on Zeb, especially when we're highlighting his non-brute-strength side.  Too bad we couldn't have a new droid buddy though!  I was really proud of them for thinking their way out of the situation, and honestly, I think it went pretty well all things considered!  Kallus/Fulcrum seemed proud!!  But....there's no time to celebrate, since this also sadly means that Thrawn has narrowed down the base location quite a bit.  Dang it!!  He's always several steps ahead!!!  Can't wait to see what happens next!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

A fanfic of mine, though, idk, don't read if you haven't read "Children of the Force" novel (or don't care to have it alluded to) (from old Legends novels) and haven't also read the Thrawn Trilogy novels (from the new disney etc canon) either (or don't care about allusions or understanding some stuff and symbols) here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/55128817/chapters/139787545 also, think of Luke in the cave with not Vader scene before reading this fic, or nothing will make sense. If you do remember, everything will make sense, though, see above. :D Anyway! Read if you're bored or whatever someday. Fic's mine. Fairly new XD And now I wanna edit it so I'll excuse myself before I give in too such dark temptations again. Things cannot be edited forever, we're only human... (starts humming the song... 'and I fall down...' ) (excuse me now) XD :D :/ XD :P XD :D :( :D

kamenriderhime

Ohhhh thank you so much! I'm actually almost done with the Thrawn trilogy. So cool that you write Star Wars fanfics too!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!

The Death Star isn't too far off completion at this point. We are under two years now until the events of Rogue One, in which it does its first 'test' firings as it destroys Jedha and Scarif in the film. The probes launched at the start are a reference to the Empire Strikes Back (even down to the musical hints) when Vader launches probes across multiple systems, to find Luke and the others on Hoth. AP-5 giving Zeb grief right from the off, I would not want to rile Zeb!! Chopper adding to AP-5's jibes doesn't help poor Zeb! Chopper does indeed hate other droids, with the possible exception of AP-5 because he is so like him, and R2 because he recognises another legend! ;) You aren't wrong that the infiltrator droid in passive mode, looks a bit like C-3P0, and thats because there is a link between both. Its design was the original concept for C-3P0. In fact in the third episode of Rebels when we meet 3P0 and R2 on the shuttle, we see that type of droid at the back with them and Chopper, and we have to remember that Chopper's design is based off original R2 concepts also. That thing in infiltrator mode is rather terrifying though, when even Chopper can't deal with it! It reminds me a bit of the Commando droids from TCW, though this will be a newer version of those I expect. Any bit of information from the probes would be useful to Thrawn. Even if he didn't directly get info from the droid here, because of the region it was ordered to go to, he can narrow it down to those 90-odd systems. He's tightening the noose. Yeah you aren't too far off the end of the whole series now Melissa, especially as season 4 is only 15 episodes (though the finale is technically a two-parter). You are in for a real treat though with the final third of season 3 here, as all episodes in one way or another from next week, are pretty great, with some being superb 10/10 Star Wars. Next week is a kind of two-parter I think you'll really like.

There was one simple, solitary fact that kept running through my mind throughout this episode: “Hera’s not going to be able to leave you three anywhere…” I mean, seriously, with all the snide banter between these three - yes, I include Chopper - this threesome could easily have its own little side series. In fact, it kind of reminds me sort of like the same attitude Winter and Weiss throw at each other: “Wow, that sounded dangerously close to a compliment.” “We all make mistakes, I guess…” The moral of this entire story is… Zeb should have listened to Chopper and he’s never going to be able to live that one down… It’s kind of interesting seeing how Kallus has to balance the scales between helping the Rebels and keeping Thrawn at bay… but this situation feels like a ticking time bomb. The one thing that I think Thrawn might not have counted on is the Rebels are not all in one place and as organized as he thinks yet. Which might be one of the few flaws in his reasoning. We now return to your regularly scheduled dramatic tension….

Rebels is currently about 2 years prior to Rogue One and A New Hope, and so the Death Star is well on the way to being finished. You summed up this episode really well: a bit of a lighter breather episode that still managed to move the story on significantly, with Thrawn now able to narrow down the location of the rebel base; and you are right that the series will pick up again: as others have said, you are gonna really like the next two episodes, and bar one other breather episode (which you will like anyway!) the rest of this season is going to be right up your street: top notch Star Wars content!

Nick

It’s been interesting and rewarding to watch your attachment to the characters, their story, and the series grow over time, Mel. For a while now some of the language you use suggests you really identify with the Rebel crew: not sure how much you are aware of this when you do it (it seems an unconscious thing), but I reckon you are definitely won over: another Rebels convert! :-)

Manny

I love these one shot episodes especially Zeb related ones. He really goes above and beyond when delivering. I especially knew it would be a fun one with AP-5 and Chopper. The are just so enjoyable to watch together xD

Saltire

Everyone should listen to Chopper! He is a little maniac, but sometimes he does make sense. For example our Jedi should have listened to him on Malachor at the start of the season 2 finale, and got the hell off that place before Kanan got blinded and Ahsoka met Vader! Mind you he does HATE Zeb!

Saltire

That upcoming 'breather episode' is awesome as well! :D

Saltire

I noticed it with Melissa at the start of season 3, especially when Kanan comes back for Ezra; and of course she adores (like us all) Hera! Then there is Sabine who is so cool; Chopper - I've not met anyone who doesn't love that little scamp, who is for many people who watch Rebels, their favourite droid in the franchise (and for good reason!), and Zeb is the big fella with a heart of gold.

kamenriderhime

Right, it's got to be close to done by now! Thanks for clarifying the timeline! Ohhh good call about the probes, I didn't realize. Hahaha same, why poke the bear??? LOL I mean, I guess game respects game, so Chopper makes an exception for R2 and AP-5 :P Oh that's interesting about the link to 3P0, and also the design for Chopper / R2! It really is terrifying in infiltrator mode! I can see how it resembles the commando droid too, only way worse. That's the thing, Thrawn doesn't need much to start putting things together. Wow, I really am closing in on the end of the series soon!!! It's hard to believe!! Feels so short compared to Clone Wars lol. I can't wait for the 2-parter! So excited to see more of this show, thanks!!!

kamenriderhime

Yup, Hera leaves for 10 MINUTES and they're getting into trouble....sigh! Omg I watch watch the heck out of that spinoff!! Hahaha the sass is similar for sure! Oh yeah, Chopper will never ever let that one go. Yeah I'm not loving the increasing tension of Kallus/Falcrum's duties. That's true though, it's not like all of them are always at that base, so that's good. Omg, so tense...!!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

Thanks for clarifying!!! And glad you agree! I'm glad I'll get at least one more breather but sounds like I'm in for quite a bit of action soon too!!!!!!!! Can't wait!!

kamenriderhime

I'm so glad!!! I definitely identify more with the Rebels, and you're right, they truly won me over somewhere along the way!!!!!!! ^_^

kamenriderhime

Yes, they're so good!! Zeb takes his duties seriously!! Omg, tell me about it - they steal the show for sure haha.

kamenriderhime

Saltire - I agree!!!! He can be a maniac and a genius, right?? Oh wow, Chopper did warn us about that didn't he??? Lol the hate for Zeb is such a good running joke now!

kamenriderhime

Saltire - yes I love them so much!!!! That's so cool that you could pinpoint where they got into my heart haha. It's impossible not to love them all, I admit it!!

Saltire

Yeah Rebels has about 75 episodes, whilst Clone Wars has about 133 and a 90 minute movie. Its a shorter run show, but it has its own story which it tells well and concisely. Enjoy the remainder!

kamenriderhime

I agree, it definitely has its own special story and pacing for it!!! Can't wait for the rest, although I'll be sad when it's over!!!

Nick

Action and some serious drama, Mel :-)

Nick

I think it’s as you said some time in the past on your reactions (at least you made similar points), Mel: the connections to the Clone Wars early on that crop up in Rebels work really well in providing familiarity and interest, but in the process the audience become familiar with our Rebel family and become invested in their story and journey: and ultimately the show is about their story and focuses more on it as the series progresses. I do think this particularly meant Ahsoka couldn't feature too much, although you might feel otherwise :-)

Saltire

We all did the same in Clone Wars too. Ahsoka and Rex were new characters, but over the course of the series, somewhere along the way, we began to realise we care about them both, and now seeing them in several series now, it just emphasises this. And the same with our Ghost crew now.

Nick

Yes a good point about how that was true in the Clone Wars as well. This reminds me of something I have been meaning to say in a post for a while: how Ashley Eckstein’s voice acting has been so integral to the success of Ahsoka. I’m not sure she gets as much credit for this these days as she should.

kamenriderhime

Nick and Saltire - I totally agree that this show (as well as Clone Wars) does so well with making the main focus to establish our new characters and why we should be invested in them!! Sad as it is, it does make sense that Ahsoka couldn't be a main part of the series for that reason. And OMG I could not agree more about Ashley Eckstein!!! She is such an amazing VA and has breathed so much life into this role. Not to mention she seems like an awesome person in real life and I love her clothing line!!!!!!!!! ^_^

Nick

Yes I think Ashley Eckstein comes across really well as a person :-)
