Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 3, episode 11 of REBELS!!!!  OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Just in time for spooky season, the first part of this felt like something right out of a horror movie!!!  Dang guys, Maul's back, Bendu's back (briefly), and we're doing stuff on DATHOMIR now!!!  WOW!!  It was nice to have some nightsister stuff again, and the zombie form definitely upped the scary factor.
I loved Ezra's IOU to them hahaha, and Sabine getting the dark saber!  Wow, was not expecting all this!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

God, every time Maul shows up it’s gonna be good. Even knowing what this was building to, the hype I felt when I first heard “It ends… where it all began. A desert planet… with twin suns!” was SO high! And I don’t know if it’s been mentioned by others but just in case you branch off into other stuff I won’t say where, but Dathomir did pop up again somewhere else that I never expected and my joy was immeasurable.

OMG right?! Oh I totally get it, everything about this just really gets me going too!! Ohhh I think I know what you mean!! (I'm all caught up with pretty much all the Star Wars show content I could find haha!)

A nice spooky episode just in time for Halloween. :) Haha Sam Witwer is so good as Maul, he has that threatening, creepy vibe down to a tee. Got to feel for the Rebel staffer getting attacked from Ezra and being almost sliced in half, because he thinks he was Darth Maul! Poor fella will be having nightmares for years about that! Bendu being a bit more tetchy with Kanan and Ezra because he likes his peace and quiet, and our heroes are anything but that! Unlike on Malachor though, Kanan lets Ezra take the lead and trusts him more now, even if he has has also placed a tracker on him in case he gets into trouble. You didn't see it Mel, but Maul has Satine's portrait there from her throne room, all cut up. Kind of psychotic, but it does represent a victory over Obi-Wan for him. Also the Mandalorian writing Maul has scrolled on the wall says one word : KENOBI!!! In the earlier episode where Maul and Ezra merge the holocrons, before they look inside the holocrons, Maul tells Ezra he is looking for hope. The episode where Ezra lost his parents, in that vision at the end, his mother tells him 'without hope, we have nothing'. Indeed, what does Maul have at this point? He has lost his brother, his master abandoned him, he no longer has any power and has lost his crime syndicate; he has been wandering aimlessly this past decade trying to find his place in the galactic story. When that has failed, whats the one thing he still clings on to? Obi-Wan and vengeance. For all his ingenuity, he never learns to move past all that. "It ends where it began", yep Maul is remembering that it was Tatooine that he first bumped into Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, so it makes sense for him that there is still a link with Obi-Wan and that planet. Sabine is right though about twin suns not narrowing it down as our friends don't know that its Tatooine, and in our own galaxy, its estimated that binary star systems are more prevalent than any other, perhaps into the hundred billions of systems - so that would be quite a search and the SW galaxy is bigger than ours! There are three entities left other than Maul and Vader who knew they met on Tatooine. One is Obi-Wan of course, the other is R2-D2 who was also there, and as we know, never got wiped; and lest we forget (though I would love to) - Jar-Jar! So the key to destroying the Sith is Obi-Wan Kenobi? Interesting. ;) Sabine picking up the Darksabre at the end (which was Maul's but he doesn't use it after his fight with Sidious), the story of that continues. So the order you have seen it from Clone Wars to here is : Pre Viszla -> Maul -> Sabine? (though she hasn't claimed it)

This is such an entertaining and packed episode - and somehow very well timed by you, Mel, for Halloween :-). This episode is linked to (i.e. is part of) two important but separate Rebels arcs. Again the voice acting is such an auditory treat with Maul and Bendu, and we have AP-5 being a bit of a drama queen with Sabine, which is really entertaining. An episode involving Dathomir is a surprise, but of course with hindsight it makes sense given Mauls past. Maul has lost everything from his past, and seems both a little unhinged and also now obsessed with Obi Wan. It's also interesting the way Maul frames things in words: so, he is after knowledge 'RIGHTFULLY' his, but Ezra merely seeks information that he is interested in: very much a Maul perspective. Maul does butter up Ezra with praise, and it certainly might be partly manipulation when he does this, but he also genuinely want to have Ezra as a 'brother' and apprentice. After Ezra refused to join with Maul, in days gone by Maul would probably have killed Ezra because of what he knew about Obi Wan, but here Maul just walks away 'disappointed'. Perhaps we should all wear Obi Wan t-shirts for your future Rebels reactions, Mel, just in case Obi Wan does turn up ;-) All I can say, given your end comments in this video, is that you are in for some future surprises (I mean not what I think you will expect) of some magnitude :-)

Saltire

Yes I agree about Maul with Ezra. He does want him as apprentice, and its almost pitiful how much he wants to 'adopt' Ezra; as he has nothing now. And now that Ezra has shown he wants nothing to do with him, he just accepts it as his lot in life. In days gone by you are correct, he would kill him, but now disappointment takes over his rage.

First off, when anyone tells you everything’s fine with them, they’re usually lying. First I thought it was just going to be a mission getting screwed up, but nope, apparently you timed this one well for Halloween. If Hera knew what was going on here, would she have gotten on that ship and left, like Sabine was chiding Kanan about? 😅 Okay… why is it every single time Maul shows up he and Ezra end up in a adventure ripped from Indiana Jones movies somehow? (Now that I think about it that’s also a Lucasfilm property… maybe I’m not crazy! 👀) Of course Ezra wasn’t going to leave his friends, particularly when they are THOSE two. But I am starting to wonder if the questions both of them are seeking have the same answer. Also there was a key omit in the dialogue when it was repeated. Ezra told Sabine “a planet with two suns.” Which doesn’t narrow it down much, as Sabine said. But when Maul was in the mind meld he said “a DESERT planet with two suns.” Ezra never repeated desert. So that might be a stumbling block, until he remembers. Also, I was thinking two things when they drank the potion. First was… if Kanan got possessed could it somehow heal his eyes? And second, since Ezra and Maul both drank the same potion… could we get a Freaky Friday situation on our hands here? Now I kind of want it to happen… 😄 Oh, also update in the Star Wars news: according to multiple sources, Mandalorian Season 3 is going to start in February 2023 now. Figured you’d want that news drop.

LOL Maul is perfect for this time of year 😈👻🤡🎃

Yay!! Sam Witwer is a genius with this role lol. Oh I know, that poor dude right! Yeah Bendu's me time got interrupted lol. OMG, I did not see Satine's portrait, WHOA!!!! I need to go back and look! I mean, Maul for sure does not have a lot left at this point. That's a great point! It's ironic it should all come back around to Tatooine. Yeah it's quite a bit galaxy out there, they'll be looking for a while if they have no clue where to start! Oh true, R2 was there, good call!!! And Jar Jar!!!!! Oh man, how I'll flip if Jar Jar makes an appearance hahaha!! Yeah, it makes sense when you think about it, because he trains Luke. Yes, that order for the dark saber sounds right!! And I know where it's headed but not the in between lol.

kamenriderhime

Pretty much, yeah! And great timing on this one right! Good point about Hera lol! Hahaha I mean, it's probably not an accident that the adventures seem so Indiana Jones-like! I guess it's never a dull moment with Maul. :P Ohhhh right, I thought Maul may have mentioned it was a desert planet!!! Good call. Oh I'm not sure about his sight, good question!!! Also Freaky Friday: Jedi Edition sounds like the Disney Star Wars special we never knew we needed so badly!!! OMG, wow, that's coming right up!!! Thanks!!

kamenriderhime

Hahaha yay, perfect timing!! I agree about the voice acting! Also so true about AP-5! Dathomir was a great surprise and does make total sense! Too true about Maul's attitude on the "right" to the knowledge too. He for sure does not have much of anything left but this! I think Maul is hamming it up too but I agree he sincerely does lack that comradery in his life now. That's a good point about rage kill vs. just disappointed haha. Oh, I can't wait for those surprises!!! Looks like Obi-Wan shirts just became the uniform haha!!!

Nick

I’m ashamed to say that I don’t own a single Star Wars t-shirt or hoodie. I’ve been meaning to remedy this for quite some time. I would really like a good Clone Wars or Rebels t-shirt.

kamenriderhime

Oh I hear you, I didn't for a long time, after wearing out the ones I had when I was a kid haha. Something to put on your holiday wish list I guess!
