Hey everyone!  Here I am with Jojo season 1, episode 2!!!  Oh wow!!!!  Time jump time!  I'm glad to see things have balanced out a bit more with Dio and Jojo....but not because they're friends exactly.  Also, Dio's actions are catching up to him pretty darn fast!!!  The alley scene with Jojo was nuts - the hat, the moves, and the gentleman-ness!!!  And last but not least, of course we had to introduce a vampiric mask!!!!!!!!  I cannot wait to see where this is going!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Song: Swift: Look What Made Me Do (because of course, if you ask Dio, it's everyone's fault but Dio's, isn't it?) (JJBA 2010s part 1/part3) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf-o4uUk1xM (Just some harmless fun. :D I love to watch it when I'm tidying up messes in my room. :D )

Oooooo I’m so excited! JJBA is a series I’ve been a fan of for a long time, super excited to be able to watch it alongside you and enjoy all your reactions, and hopefully I’ll be able provide some interesting trivia and information for you along the way! Speaking of, here’s some interesting background. The original manga started coming out in the wake of Fist of the North Star (back in 1987! Took a long time for them to make an anime), and supposedly Araki (the mangaka) was more or less just told by his bosses to create something like FotNS in order to try and draw in that audience. One of the places this is most obvious is just in the character design you can see in these episodes, namely the way all the guys are absurdly muscular sdfsdf. As the series went on and became more popular in its own right, Araki got more freedom to develop his own unique style, both in terms of art (there’s a pretty dramatic style shift a little way down the line) and in terms of the action. Because of this, this first arc ends up feeling a lot weaker than everything to come, although it’s still worth watching just to set things up. Also, some trivia, Araki is a big fan of western music, and so he likes to incorporate a lot of references to bands and songs into the series. Namely, Dio is named after the heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio. Further, when making the anime the studio decided to incorporate some of that music directly, and asked Araki about what music he could remember listening to when he was making the various different arcs so they could license some of it to use as the credits track. For this season, as you recognised, we have Roundabout by Yes (loved watching you jam out to it). Anyway, that’s probably enough rambling for now, but once again I’m super excited for this series! Can’t wait for more!

Hi Hime :) It's the uncensored version so in a way, so much the better. Araki, the author of Jojo sums up his manga with a quote in the very first volume: "two men are in cells and look out the window through the bars, one stares at the sky while the other looks at the mud" This question of two people in the same situation but having opposite points of view, is in a way the heart of the manga, you will quickly realize it. You are lucky in your misfortune, the death of Danny in the manga is shown... But I want to warn you, it will not be the only dog to die in the series, unfortunately for you. But if it reassures you a little, it's not super frequent either. The hat with blades is a reference to Hotjob in a James Bond film, who also had a hat with blades. Araki is a fan of pop culture, especially Western, that's why we have Rundabout from Yes as an ending. Dio Brando takes his name from the singer of Heavy Metal Dio and Marlon Brando. And references like this are just getting started. The funniest thing is that Jojo is full of references, but has become so cult that dozens of works refer to Jojo now. But yeah, let's put that in context, in 1987, in Japan, in the Shonen Jump magazine, the biggest hit was Dragon Ball, and there Araki comes in with the story of two English kids, in the Victorian era and a vampire story. Suffice to say that it did not leave in the best condition to have the success that it had lol. But despite everything, Jojo still continues to this day and hundreds of manga authors admit to having been inspired by Jojo (notably Togashi the author of Hunter X Hunter).

So glad you're getting into this. X3 The first OP still stands out as one of the best Jojo has to offer, but honestly they've all been bangers so far! So fun fact, the guy on Orge Street with the... *sharp* hat is named Robert E.O. Speedwagon, and is named after the band REO Speedwagon. From what I hear, the official translations can use this name because REO Speedwagon themselves are named after a brand of car! So if I'm recalling right it's a situation where if the band sues, they themselves are open to a lawsuit... Or at least it'd really shoot the band in the foot during court!🤣 Though I will say this... Don't get excited over seeing a dog in Jojo. 😱 They're cute, but Araki in the early days of Jojo sometimes uses them to show how evil his villains are. > .>;;;

“We’re not trapped in here with you… now you’re trapped in here with US!” - oh, and we do know things up to a point. So I’ll be brief in a lot of these. First, the wall of text at the beginning of each episode is just the copyright disclaimer saying don’t copy or reproduce this work and sell it as your own. I think Jack the Ripper is more like just a reference to how WEIRD things are in this time period. Also, this theme kind of fits for Halloween, doesn’t it? :D This series is very over-the-top. There’s going to be a lot of “ooh, that looks like a horrible injury!” moments and then it’ll be like it never happened. Also, there’s a lot of thought bubble text / inner monologue h, I’ve noticed. Because, as you already pointed out, actions speak louder than words. Dio’s a terrible person - but is he that way because of his dad, or just because? His environment certainly didn’t do him any favors, though. But imagine hating your dad enough to poison him slowly instead of just getting it done. He probably wanted to drag it out to make the man suffer. Jojo is getting fairly good at playing detective. He’s asking the right questions, and looking in the right places - however, he’s got to learn not to be quite so obvious with his methods. Also the buzz saw hat kind of reminded me of a certain classic James Bond villain. You either have seen this and know exactly who I mean - or you haven’t. :) I can’t reveal too much, but I will say this to you: do be careful what you wish for!

Manny

Woof okay good that first episode left me stirred up with Dio. True gentleman-ness inevitably beats all!!! Danny would be proud 👏 🥲

kamenriderhime

Right!? This ep was very needed hahaha. Danny is watching over him like an angel, I'm sure <333

kamenriderhime

Thanks, me too!!!! It's great! HAHAHAHHA I love it, REO Speedwagon! That's so hilarious that they also ripped off the name - I never even thought of that. Uggghh I'm hearing that about the use of dogs in Jojo.....yikes :'( I'm gonna be traumatized for sure!

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) Oh ok good, I was meaning to watch it uncensored lol. Oooh that's a powerful quote! That's also an interesting concept. Oh no, I had a feeling it might have been more graphic in the manga. OMG!!! I most definitely will be squirming in the future, I love dogs so much <3333 I'm glad it's not really frequent though. Yes, I knew the hat thing seemed familiar! So awesome that there are lots of pop culture references sprinkled throughout! Wow, Jojo was all about references and now it is the reference, ironic!!! Haha yeah I can see where it was set up at somewhat of a disadvantage, but wow, talk about overcoming the odds! I remember that Togashi was really inspired by it so I'm excited to spot all the similarities now!!!! :D

kamenriderhime

OMG!!!! :P And thanks for clearing up the text! It totally fits for spooky season right? Oh thanks for the heads up about how over the top it is in terms of injuries not sticking haha. That's the thing, like Dio for sure had a horrible life, I get it. At the same time though, he's still dead to me. :P Jojo's pretty awesome! He is a bit too on the surface though. Hahaha I know who you mean, can't believe I didn't recognize it right away!!! Ahhhh oh no, can't wait to see what I'm in store for next!!!

Senpai

Speedwagon's just the tip of the Iceburg for those kind of names. 😂 Araki was a pretty huge nerd of western media. If it helps you feel better... I think the puppy cruelty stops at some point, but I don't know exactly when that is. 😰

kamenriderhime

Oh wow! That's so awesome! Ugh, at least it stops at some point.......can't happen soon enough for me!!

Senpai

Right? D: Until then, courage. ...Also I gotta love how fast you jumped on the 'Get Rid of Dio' bandwagon before we even got to Danny's Death. 😂 I mean it's the right wagon to be on, Dio is a *bastard*.

kamenriderhime

Yes!!!! Hahah all I needed to see was the kick and I was done. Not to mention the stolen kiss. But the death.....yeah he's totally dead to me now, just irredeemable!!! I think you're more than correct in that assessment!!!

kamenriderhime

YAY!!! I'm so excited you're watching along with me! Can't wait for the info! Oh I could see that in the absurdly muscular design haha. Very interesting about how the art/style develops over time. That is so awesome about Araki's love of western culture and music, I love that they actually went to the trouble of not only trying to incorporate some into the anime, but actually asked directly which ones were big influences. I'm glad you enjoyed me jamming haha!!! It's such a great song, Yes is a highly underrated band imo!!!! Thanks so much and can't wait to see more!

The-Buddyguard

A vampiric plot twist... what the frigg? LOL. I knew not to expect anything going in, but that feels just so very random. Then again, I never had a Twilight phase, and kinda stayed away from anything remotely close--except maybe Wizards of Waverly Place, so. As a first-time watcher, I don't know if I'll have much to say. But I am enjoying the other comments, and I'm just happy to be following along. Things are getting set up, and nothing seems hard to follow yet. I DO appreciate Jojo's outwardly gentleman character that even enemies take notice, and how self-aware Dio seems to be--inside the bounds of his own ego anyway. I still don't know how all these infamous "stans" are gonna fit in, only knowing the barest of minimums. But that's what I'll be looking forward to, whenever that should happen. Soldier on!

kamenriderhime

Right?! Like this show needed another something thrown in, but here we are with the vampire stuff!!! Hahaha something tells me this will be a bit different than Twilight!! :P I agree, it's nice just to be along for the ride and getting to know everyone! I hear you, I know Jojo is famous for its memes and fandom culture but I honestly have no clue when/where/how we'll get there!!!! Can't wait for more! Thanks for watching with me!

The-Buddyguard

The weird thing about Jojo is the fact that it's like a show that wasn't just injected with anime, which is shroom-y to begin with, but probably meth as well. And that's what I'm signing up to see, haha. Happy watching!

kamenriderhime

HAHAHAHAHHA omg, from the first several eps I've seen and the way I've heard this series hyped up, I think this is the absolutely perfect description!!!!! Thanks so much, and thanks for watching along with me!!!

2022-12-31 00:41:28 I’m glad you are enjoying the show so far. I will say that part one is my least favorite part because it is more simplistic but I still enjoy it a lot and I appreciate the foundation it creates for the rest of the show which you will see. I think you said it that the show isn’t that bizarre yet in my opinion it’s mostly just weird and sometimes bizarre I think you’ll understand as the series goes on. I like getting to know Jonathan and Dio in the first 2 episodes I think it’s a well done introduction for what they are like. I think the most interesting part is seeing their differences growing up as well as when they interact. Dio is the worst being cold, cruel and intelligent although his temper is a weakness but I think he’s a great villain. The Erina stuff sucks but I like the strength/insult she shows towards Dio. A different translation I believe is you thought your first kiss would be with Jonathan but it was me Dio which has spawned many memes. I believe it’s the image of Dio pointing at himself with the phrase you thought it was blank at the top and but it was me Dio at the bottom LOL. I love the moment of JoJo getting strength from his anger on other people’s behalf when he gains the upper hand on Dio for the first time in episode one. What happens to Danny is truly terrible poor boy but it’s a great way to show how bad someone is. I love that the ending song is Roundabout by Yes thanks to the creators love of pop culture. Seeing them as young adults is interesting especially the ridiculous physiques LOL. I love Jonathan’s curiosity and interest of learning about the mask. Dio’s plan to kill the father was actually very intelligent and I appreciate that. Unfortunately for him his hatred for his father while it makes sense revealed his true emotions revealing that something shady was going on. It’s great to see him be the gentleman he wanted to become as a kid when awesomely fighting the thugs. I love it helps him gain the respect of Speedwagon which was a good thing. The blade Hat and the vampire twist are the first really bizarre things in the show in my opinion. And now you have seen the to be continued thing which has been used to create many a meme. I love the references to musician/band names its amazing :-). Now you will slowly start to understand the was that a JoJo reference joke :-). Awesome reactions to the first 2 episodes & keep up the great work. :-) <3

Yay thank you!! Yeah it's definitely more building blocks than bizarre so far but I'm sure we'll get there haha. Dio is the worst!!! Oh yes I'm hearing a lot about those memes now!! I have to go look some up hahaha. Yeah Jojo's strength is interesting, it's definitely more related to helping others and overcoming adversity. Poor Danny!!!! I know, that was the turning point for me, so I get it. The ending is awesome! Hahahha the ridiculous physiques are fun! Dio is chillingly smart for sure. I'm so glad he slipped up enough for Jojo to figure things out though. The ultimate gentleman moment was great! Yeah the alley scene had some bizarreness for sure haha. Oh that's awesome that even the to be continued is a meme!!! YES, I am gonna love those references for sure haha. I am so excited to finally understand the Jojo references!!! It feels like I'm part of an awesome club lol. Thank you so much!!!!! I truly appreciate it!!!!

wow hooked on ep 2 huh? Well, guess I need to get to the next level and I'll continue to enjoy the ride :p Glad you like this work :)
