First off we get a horrid scene right off the bat and lose a Lothal friend of ours right in front of our eyes - DANG!!!  This show doesn't go that far that often, and when they do, it just leaves you with whiplash!!!  Also, Thrawn is NOT to be messed with, man am I scared of him!!!  Oh yeah, and Kallus is Fulcrum!?!?!?!  WOW!!!!  Did not see that coming AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!  I love it though!!!  He's on some thin ice though, I really hope he doesn't get caught!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

Hey again, Melissa! Loving your reactions, as always! Something I noticed while watching your reaction - which I have never noticed before - was that Thrawn had a datapad at one point showing Chopper's schematics. Everybody always overlooks droids, but Thrawn's attention to detail could very well have given him the key to finding that needle in a haystack that everyone else in the Empre would not think twice about. He is so ruthless and intelligent, and he does it all without a lightsaber or the Force. He's just a single man with a brilliant mind and the patience to think things through. And as an enemy, that is a terrifying combination.

Hey Jonathan!!! Thank you so much, I'm happy to hear that!! Ooooh that is a good thing to note. Thrawn sees things where others overlook. He truly is a terrifying enemy - he's the opposite of all the reasons why the Empire failed. He's patient, brilliant, and doesn't get caught up in the minutia of things like rank and politics. He cuts through the BS and gets stuff done, which is bad for our heroes.

You really do love Hondo, don't you? 😆 🤣 I'm starting to think you like Hondo the way I like our agent Kallus, bless his heart (which grew three times that day on the moon thnx to Zeb or smth). 😆 🤣 that reminds me! My old Kallus fic, from years ago, still waiting for me to continue... I'm gonna try and take a stab at it, even if nobody on ao3 will notice, cuz it's that old. 😀

I know I say this every time, but Pryce, oh I HATE Pryce! You have a hatred for Tarkin Melissa, mine is for Pryce! Look at her smiling as Ezra's old family friend is blown up!! Grrrr!!! Thrawn doesn't mess around. While he's not sadistic like Pryce or Tarkin, he has no qualms about killing to make a point. His theme is so threatening too, it just adds to the sense of dread every time he's on screen. His office filled with art as he studies our rebels, he's working them out well. If you take a look at Sabine's phoenix symbol, there are a lot of elements in it that compare with the actual Rebel Alliance logo down the line. Also if you look at the the symbol again during Andor's intro's, you'll see its more spike or dagger shaped, perhaps indicating Cassian and co being more like rebel enforcers, than our crew here fighting to end imperial tyranny. Poor Kallus, helping our team out again and getting battered and bruised for it from Ezra and Kanan! Note when Kanan takes off his helmet, Kallus shows shock, he didn't know Kanan is now blind. Yeah that new ship, the TIE Defender, that Thrawn is developing, is a huge problem for our Rebels. If it goes into production, they won't stand a chance. It originally came from a game, so kind of cool they repurposed it here. Its the top-of-the-line imperial fighter, exceptionally powerful and dangerous. Kallus will need to be on the lookout now, if Thrawn starts to suspect him, he is in big trouble.

Things are picking up again with this excellent episode. Lots I could say but I thought first I would point to the voice actor for Ryder Azadi: Clancy Brown. I gather he is a prolific actor, known for being extremely versatile; to mention a few: he voiced Mr Crabs in SpongeBob SquarePants, Ryder Azadi in Rebels, in Clone Wars he was the voice of Savage Oppress, and, cool as can be, he was the chief prison guard that played so central and memorable a role in the brilliant film The Shawshank Redemption. Versatile indeed …

Nick

I hadn’t realised you were thinking of Obi Wan for Fulcrum (that was an interesting theory!) but glad Kallus took you by surprise with this :-). Thrawn is coldly, clinically, analytically, calmly as scary as ever. It’s sad and brutal what Thrawn did to Mr Sumar :-( Lets hope Thrawn doesn’t cotton on to Kallus’s new double identity …

Saltire

I'm old enough to remember him playing the Kurgan in Highlander, for me thats his most famous role ("I got one thing to say, its better to burn out, than fade away!!!!!") . He was also excellent in Starship Troopers too in the 90's.

Nick

Yes I remember him in Highlander - another great film :-)

While it is fun to pull the wool over the Empire’s eyes like we normally do, it’s not quite as rewarding. Having a challenging opponent to overcome like Thrawn makes things a helluva lot more interesting, even if every time he starts speaking in his VERY CALM VOICE you squirm that much harder. Also, he doesn’t play. He’s very calculating but he’s also very cold. I don’t know if you realized this but Sumar (the farmer) was trying to shut the bike off as it overheated and Thrawn overrode the controls remotely making it explode before he could get off safely. Before I forget, I do need to point out something - Kanan seems to be doing pretty well now even without his sight - it’s like he’s in tune enough with the Force and his other senses that he can “see” without his vision and seems to react very normally to situations. Kallus being Fulcrum is a shock… even Zeb didn’t know he was recruiting when that whole thing happened. However, I think the real impetus behind his turn is kind of embodied in how that episode ended. The rebels treat each other like personal friends - no matter what you do in the Empire, unless your name is Palpatine or Vader, you’re a number to them. Thrawn also knows there’s a connection to Lothal, even if he doesn’t know exactly what it is. Kallus is both in the best position and the worst position. He’s in the best position because he is privy to what Thrawn is thinking. He’s in the worst because that puts him under constant scrutiny. Also, TIE Fighters with shields? That sounds problematic. My theory is the way to take down this guy will be to use Chopper somehow. He’s simply just crazy and unpredictable enough that nobody can guess what he’ll do next. And you would do well to remember the cardinal rule of this show: when Chopper has to share screen time with another droid: THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE! 😁

Manny

No way I thought it couldn’t be anyone but Obi Wan. I really thought it was him. But now I’m scared for Kallus. I feel like he knows it’s Kallus. He knows! Run!

kamenriderhime

I never said it cause I didn't wanna sound silly!!! Guess I was right haha! It's really terrifying. And omg wasn't that horrible!?!?! Oh wow, something tells me it won't take much for Thrawn to figure it out....!!!

kamenriderhime

Ohhh yes I've heard of him! He was Savage too, wow! I'm not sure if I've ever seen Highlander!!! :O

kamenriderhime

Hahahha I hear you! I know how that feels so I totally get it :P The smile was truly evil!!! That's the thing, Thrawn doesn't have a lot of emotion tied into it and that makes it even scarier. Yeah I can totally see the Rebel Alliance logo in there! Ohhhh good call about the addition of the dagger elements!! Hahahha poor Kallus!!! Guess they had to get in a few hits for old times' sake :P Ohhhh right he wouldn't know that Kanan is blind now huh! Oof, sounds like big trouble for sure. So cool that they took the concept from one of the games! OMG I'm terrified for Kallus!!!

kamenriderhime

That's the thing, I feel like the difficulty level just shot up! WHY IS HE SO CALM!!! Lol. Oh yeah, he is not messing around. OHHHH I did not notice that he overrode the controls, wooooow!!! Yes, Kanan's definitely developed a sight of sorts!! Yeah I did not see that coming! Good call that the end of that ep highlights his reasoning. There's not much need for friendship in the Empire :( So true, Kallus is in the best and worst position here. Hahahaha Chopper will most definitely be the key! LOL Chopper does not share the spotlight for sure!!!! XD

Nick

It will be interesting to see what you think about how this plays out with Fulcrum :-) The second half of this season is really good, and based upon what you think so far, I don’t think you will be disappointed 😎

Nick

Not really about this episode but it just occurred to me that I don’t think you have reacted to the Rebels animated shorts, Mel. I don’t know if you know of them, and they are easy to miss on Disney +, but as I remember it they a a handful of animated rebel mini episodes each just a few minutes long. Even if you don’t want to react to them, you might like to watch them. I think they were originally designed to be watched before watching the full series.

Saltire

Oh I think it would be right up your street, it 80's cheesy fun, with a cracking soundtrack courtesy of the legendary Queen.

Saltire

Yeah I remember telling Mel about them too, at the finale of season 1 when there is a Sabine reference to those shorts. Good idea to watch them on D+ though, as there won't be potential spoilers unlike linking them through Youtube.

kamenriderhime

Oh yes! I've seen them on Disney Plus but wasn't sure when I could watch them. Good to know they don't have spoilers like the YouTube ones!!! Maybe between seasons? Not sure when it's best to watch, but I'd love to see them as long as it's spoiler-safe for me to do so!!

Nick

Definitely spoiler safe! What isn’t spoiler safe are the variety of Rebels trailers they produced and are still out there to watch - trailers for each season. The trailers are really, really good but probably best watched after watching the whole series (although obviously season 1 and 2 trailers are safe for you to watch).

kamenriderhime

Oh good!! I'll try to make some time to see them, maybe between seasons! I'll be careful of the trailers too, good call! Thanks!
