Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 3, episode 8 of REBELS!!!!  Oh wow, who knew that Sato had a nephew??  Or that he had his own little team??  I commend them for doing so much to hold off the Empire, but wow, Mart should had a lot to learn here!  Starting with what a star destroyer really looks like lol.  This also goes to show that while the rebel spirit / determination are important, being organized and using your resources is also really important if you want to take on something as big as the Empire!  I was glad everyone made it through safely and we got to see uncle / nephew reunited.  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

This may be the one episode I’m kind of eh about. It’s okay, just not as good as the others, also didn’t really like Mart. But at the very least we got to see more of Thrawn’s mind and how he uses his resources at work, and we a little something on Sato. Speaking of which, I can’t remember if someone or even myself had mentioned this cause it’s been a while since we met Sato, but his VA Keone Young was also Jeong Jeong from ATLA, Aang’s first Firebending teacher!

I hear you, they can't all be A-grade right! Oh no kidding about Sato's VA!!! I don't think I knew that! That's so awesome!

Zeb says a ship full of Ezra's, he got that right! One is more than enough! :P The YT-2400 ship should indeed look familiar, its a heavier variant of the YT-1300, which the Millenium Falcon is. This episode is apparently a nod to a film called Red Dawn, in which a bunch of teenagers defend their home from invading forces. Filoni does voices in every episode in Rebels; I think this shows how tight a budget they had making this show, that the supervising director and creator of Clone Wars, Rebels (and later Bad Batch and Mandalorian - in which he actually cameos a few times as Trapper Wolf (him and his ruddy wolves!!)), does voice work to cut costs. Disney at the time it seems was testing the waters, as we know now the budgets Star Wars shows, even the animations, now enjoy. Think this is the first time we see Thrawn's Star Destroyer, the Chimaera, with its engraving of the many-headed monster, in which it takes its name, underneath the ship. I think the many heads signifies, that no matter what tactic you use against him, he'll have another waiting to trap you. Thrawn's name is Mitth'raw'nuruodo, with Thrawn being taken from the middle letters of his name. I really need to read his books one day.

This is as close to a filler episode as you get for season 3, along with one or two other episodes, although not quite a filler as it does support some other really big episodes later. Still, it’s a good one, as are the other fillers. I like that the ship Mart and his crew are flying is a similar model to Han Solo’s Millenium Falcon. Also, it’s interesting to note that Ezra now uses the line about it being about how they fight and not just the fact that they should fight: a message probably taken on board under the influence of Yoda and Kanan. Ezra has changed significantly since season 1 episode 1, and has even changed a lot since the beginning of this season. There are a fair few themes associated with Rebels, and one of the emotionally rewarding ones is Ezra’s journey as a person and force wielder under Kanan’s guidance, but also for other reasons too.

Yeah Ezra is learning his lessons and giving out some guidance now too here and in the episode recently that covered the Clone Wars where he saw the whole picture; which all shows he's coming on as a Jedi. He still has much to learn, but he is progressing well.

While what you fight for is extremely important - something that comes up often on this show - it’s important not to be stupid or too headstrong about it either. There’s a lot of that going on here. Mart, as much as he believes in this cause, is willing to put his own self on the line needlessly because he doesn’t have the experience to read the situation correctly: the fact that he thinks an Imperial transport is a Star Destroyer is evidence enough of that. But what’s worse is, he’s dragging his friends into it without thinking. You were commenting so I think you missed this: the reason his hyperdrive wasn’t working was as soon as it was fixed, he rerouted the power to his guns and shields. It’s important to not be so obsessed with victory in a battle that you lose sight of the bigger picture. Sometimes retreating tactically is an advantage - one that you can use later. Not every escape is a defeat. While the Rebels do lose people, they never lose them without a cause behind it - something these kids will need to learn. I think Thrawn might have went after Myakpo just to draw Sato out of hiding - he’s like “I would like to see my opponent on the chess board before the game truly begins.” He’s got a plan, but he’s so many moves ahead at the moment, not even his own team knows what it is. Also, Chopper next to another droid with an open airlock? Uh-oh… where’ve I seen this movie before? It’s starting to become like Charlie Brown trying to kick Lucy’s football, isn’t it?😅

Hahahha one is plenty! Yeah that's what I was kinda thinking, but I was like, no way that could be the Falcon right?!!? Nice, good call on the nod as well. Oh I didn't know that about Dave Filoni! That's so funny it was due to budget, what a trooper for going in and doing that haha. Ooooh the ship!!! What a devastating symbol too. I hear the books are amazing!

kamenriderhime

That makes sense!! Yeah I was like, I'm pretty sure that's the Falcon, but that doesn't make sense lol??? Thanks for clarifying! Ezra has changed a lot for sure! His journey with Kanan has been amazing. He's definitely coming along well!

kamenriderhime

Exactly!! That's the thing, he was not only endangering himself, but his friends. There's a better way than that! Also, I did catch that he had done something to the power, just not what. Lol sorry. So well said - it's one thing to lose people, but doing it for no reason, that's just not how we get things done! Gotcha, I was wondering if that's why he did it. He seems like he's 1000 steps ahead lol. HAHAHAHA I was totally thinking the same thing about Chopper!!! LOL definitely getting those Charlie Brown vibes :P
