Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 3, episode 4 of REBELS!!!! Wow, this was a really good one, not only highlighting a major problem for the Rebels, but also showing us the origin story of Wedge Antilles!!!  Seeing Sabine with hair that's not a funky color was jarring haha.  But dang, does our girl know how to handle herself!  The rebellion may not have endless resources like the Empire, but we just gained some great new friends and allies today!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

Wow Melissa, have you got a poltergeist? :D Oooh, from the off this episode, the Empire bringing in my favourite ships in all Star Wars, TIE Interceptors. I had a red one in a game once, and I terrorised the galaxy in it! These are a lot more agile and faster than regular TIE's and have four guns instead of two. No shields still, but only A-Wings in the right hands can keep up with them. These rebel pilots however, were not. Just give that ID card a good rub and it'll work fine, we've all been there! Ezra being impatient still. Here when it comes to Sabine being the one infiltrating the training centre. This parallels with Kanan being worried about Ezra in one of the early episodes, where he infiltrated an imperial base for a while. Kanan knows now worrying won't help. Just stay in the moment and trust Sabine will get the job done. For all Ezra has come on in his training, he still has much to learn. Yeah there are still a number of Sabine episodes to come yet, and one of them is in my top 5 of all Rebels episodes. Think this is the first time we hear a hint of Sabine's Theme, when she recruits Wedge. Wait till you hear it in all its glory Mel, its gorgeous, almost John Williams standard! Ohhh Pryce, I HATE Pryce!!! As sadistic as Tarkin in her methods. Kallus softening up a bit and helping Sabine and these Rebels? Perhaps Zeb did get through to him on that moon after all... Hehe so we lost 7 pilots and gained 2, well done Commander Sato! Tbf though Hoby and Wedge are two superb pilots. Wedge we all know, is one of the best pilots in the galaxy and a hero for the rebellion and resistance later on. Hoby is there all the way through to Hoth in Empire Strikes Back, where he takes out General Veers AT-AT in a sacrificial move, buying time for the rest of the rebels to escape. On Wedge, his name isn't common, but the name Antilles is, throughout Star Wars. Bail Organa's original name was Bail Antilles (whose name gets referenced in Phantom Menace when the new Chancellor is to be voted on), and there was someone casted in to do several scenes in the film before they got binned. They then brought in Jimmy Smits to play Bail Organa from then on. Also one of his commanders is called Captain Antilles, and he is referenced by C-3P0 to be his master when he first meets Luke in A New Hope. Captain Antilles himself is seen as the guy who Vader chokes to death with one hand in ANH. One final note, and its a request if possible. At the end of episode 6 next week, please pay attention to the end credits, there are a couple of fun easter eggs when it plays. ;)

It’s good to have a Sabine centred episode as I think you are right she is focused upon less in terms of character development in the first two seasons. Sabine is really able in all sorts of ways, and it’s nice to see that partly on display here. This season does focus more on Sabine. It’s also really cool to see the Rebels crew contributing something else significant to the rebellion (not for the first or last time) - this time recruiting some excellent rebel pilots. Interesting fact (just in case you didn’t know): the actor playing Wedge Antilles in the original trilogy and The Rise of Skywalker was Denis Lawson, who is Ewan McGregor’s uncle: I thought that very cool when I found that out. I think Denis Lawson’s daughter is Ewan McGregor’s mum!?

So, by the end of episode 4 we have two intriguing mysteries: who is Fulcrum and what/ who did Maul and Ezra see in the holocrons? 🙂

Like I mentioned earlier, using the subtitles on the English language shows as well might not be the worst idea, especially if you’re missing the entire briefing overview of the episode. Now, regarding the whole Fulcrum thing - I think it might just be Ahsohka took the name first and they just decided to recycle it. Also that voice sounded like it was being disguised to protect the person’s identity, odds are it’s not their real voice. We do know the Empire is getting more crafty in trying to catch the Rebels. Ezra is still having trouble being patient - even when you do trust your friends - and he does - you can’t help but worry. Kanan might be there to settle him down but he’s certainly still worked up. Between Kanan’s absence between seasons and Maul’s influence, Ezra’s got a lot of issues to work out. He isn’t the same person. As soon as they said Wedge, I’m like… hmmm…. Now does that mean we need to find Biggs somewhere in this as well? I do think you misinterpreted the first mission Sabine was piloting though: when they were given orders to destroy the transport that was all a simulation and they were on flight pods. You know Sabine wouldn’t attack the real Ghost ship, which, apparently, the Empire has made a lethal target now. Admiral Ferris isn’t going to let this humiliation go after being betrayed by some of his students, and Governor Pryce seems to be a handful as well. Her encounter with Sabine revealed she’s quite capable and also ruthless, but it was cut short by a shocking experience. Not quite sure how to translate Kallus’ behavior yet. Is he having second thoughts or is he paying off a debt? If the others find out he could have more problems of his own. While his assistance wasn’t unwelcome I wouldn’t exactly call him a potential ally at this point. He’s kind of an enigma. Oh, and since this is a Star Wars post, I should point out it’s finally happened. James Earl Jones is retiring from voicing Darth Vader after 45 years. https://deadline.com/2022/09/james-earl-jones-star-wars-darth-vader-rights-ai-signals-retirement-1235126394/ He’s very old so I’m not surprised this happened. You can be disappointed or you can be glad he gave the character as much as he did. That voice is iconic. Everyone who’s a Star Wars fan needs to say thank you. Round of applause please. 👏

Tyler Stobbe

D’oh, almost forgot! If you think that power strip falling was the result of a Sith force… you’re the only one in the room. The only other candidate is… your dog… so what exactly are you implying? 👀👀👀😅

Manny

Wow so that’s her natural hair color 😯

kamenriderhime

It is! I'm glad we'll get more focus on Sabine! Makes sense that recruitment would have to be in their skill set. WHAT?! That's awesome that Wedge's actor is Ewan McGregor's uncle!!!!!!! :O What a small world huh!

Nick

I like to think she’s a natural blonde but preferred the goth look for her mission :-)

Nick

Them being the same is an intriguing example of lateral thinking :-) But anyways, assuming these mysteries at some point get cleared up, I feel sure that you won’t be disappointed 😁

Not quite about Denis Lawson. He is a brother to Ewan McGregor's mother or father (haven't really found out which yet). Ewan and his brother were huge Star Wars fans growing growing up, and I think stories from Denis inspired Ewan to become an actor himself. Ewan's brother, became a real life Wedge, by becoming a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force, and his Callsign when flying, is 'Obi-Two'. :D

On James Earl Jones, he's deserved his retirement from the role of Vader, he made him such an iconic villain and indeed, along with R2-D2, one of the most recognisable characters in all media, in the last 50 years. His voice still sounds fine here in Rebels, yet he noticeably sounded old in Rogue One, which was filmed around the same time as this series. They obviously used the digital version of his voice in the Kenobi series, and he sounded back to his best in that; so while one may question the slight morality of doing that (just like with using Peter Cushing digitally in Rogue One), at least like with Carrie Fisher, they got their permission to use their faces or voices again.

Saltire

I think its better plain than what we see throughout the rest of the show personally, especially when she is wearing something dark, like the black TIE uniforms for the Empire, or when she darkens the colours on her own armour.

kamenriderhime

Hahaha must be a force ghost maybe? :P Oooh TIE Interceptors are no joke!!! And it sounds like you know from experience! :D Hahah who doesn't hate a dirty ID card, happens all the time right! Yeah it's tough, but Ezra needs to learn patience for sure. Not saying it's easy but Kanan has a point about pointless worrying. I'm so excited for the Sabine eps! Oh!!! The theme, I can't wait to hear it more! Yeah Pryce is not playing around. I think Zeb for sure got through to Kallus! Yeah we're still at a loss with pilots but better off than we were! And Wedge is a legend for sure! Ohhhhh that was Hoby!!!! I knew it sounded familiar. No kidding, I didn't realize that was Bail's name originally! Ohhhhh I don't think I put that together that the guy who was choked was also an Antilles. Who knew it was such a common name! Oh, I'll try to remember about the credits for ep 6!!! Thanks!!

kamenriderhime

Yeah I need to remember that about the subtitles, thanks! Oh that makes sense that there aren't necessarily lots of Fulcrums, this one is just Ahsoka's successor. Yeah Ezra's changed a lot and has a ton to work out for sure. Oh I'd love it if we got Biggs too haha. Gotcha, I was kinda thinking it was a simulation yet it seemed real so I wasn't sure, but yeah, that doesn't make sense at all haha. Yeah Pryce is no joke. That's the thing, Kallus isn't really our ally yet...but I like the direction we're headed in! Oh I heard about James Earl Jones, round of applause for sure! Interesting that they started using a digital version too. He gave us so many iconic memories, I hope he has a wonderful retirement! Oh and lastly, this isn't the first time I've seen some sith qualities in my dog soooo....you never know hahaha!!!!! Darth Buffy >:D
